Fish Return To Win Column

The Miami Marlins put an end to a six game losing streak on Sunday with a 9-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.    The win was only the fifth of the month for Miami in June and was one of the more lopsided wins of the season.   The Marlins scored early and often behind an excellent effort from Mark Buehrle a day after Hanley Ramirez held a players only meeting.

Buehrle improved to 6-8 by throwing seven scoreless innings in which he allowed seven hits and struck out seven while walking two.   It took Buehrle 114 pitches to get thru the seven innings which is why he was lifted instead of going for the complete game.   Chad Gaudin worked the last two innings allowing only one hit to complete the victory.

The runs started in a four run second inning that featured a John Buck three run home run.   It was the sixth home run of the year for the Marlins’ catcher who has struggled for most of the season.  Greg Dobbs hit his first home run of the season in the sixth inning after making the start in place of Gaby Sanchez at first base.   Hanley Ramirez tripled and Omar Infante doubled to give the Marlins four extra base hits.

Miami will try to continue their trek back to the .500 mark on Monday when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals.  The scheduled starters are Kyle Lohse and Carlos Zambrano.
