Hermida Sought After

October 16, 2008 by Larry Walansky

hermida58.jpg Jeremy Hermida is on the radar of four teams according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.  The right fielder who has yet to produce to his potential has possibly fallen out of favor with the Marlins and could be on the move this off-season.    Speculation is the Marlins would seek a third basemen or a young closer in return for their starting corner outfielder.

In 2008, Hermida hit a disappointing .249 while blasting 17 home runs and knocking in 61 runs.   Due to his inability to get on base (.323 OBP), Hermida saw decreased playing time down the stretch as the Fish tried to stay in the playoff hunt.   The 2008 campaign followed a solid season the year before where Hermida hit .296 and showed signs he could reach his impressive potential.   At the age of 24, the talent is there and the future value Hermida was projected to have is still reachable.   The Marlins know this and will no doubt command a hefty return for the career .267 hitter.

Should Hermida be dealt, it is likely the Marlins would enter the 2009 season with Cameron Maybin starting in center field alongside Cody Ross in right field.
