Let the year of Scott Gomez begin.
Prospect camp starts Thursday
This is a baseball forum. Scottie Gomes.
Prospect camp info for the new thread.
Highlights from the rookie camp game against the Predators.
Highlights of the Panthers vs. the Bruins rookies. Big comeback by the Panthers. Bjugstad with a hat trick.
I went to the game today. It was pretty awesome. Racine is a beast and basically killed that guy. Plus he scored.
Good turnout too.
Good news on the goaltending front -- Clemmensen is injured.
Geez that sounded horrible... I'm not happy that he's injured. I'm happy that he won't be playing.
Panthers offered Theodore a tryout and he said no. They also apparently offered Tim Thomas a tryout and waiting to hear back.
One nice surprise was Brad Boyes was invited to camp and he had a very solid year with the Islanders last year. 35 points in 48 games. Surprised he doesnt have a guaranteed deal.
Well a lot of people think that Boyes point total was a product of playing with Tavares. Still, he basically makes Top-6 on our team if he does well enough in camp.
Please say yes, please say yes, please say yes...
Boyes has always been a goal scorer. He's probably not as good as he once was, but I'm guessing he'll make this team.
I agree. Boyes has only had one really bad year and that was with Buffalo two years ago. Before that he scored plenty of points.
Brad Boyes is literally just another Peter Mueller, and you're all going to hate him if you hated Mueller like I did at the end of the season. Boyes is a turnover machine. Speedy winger who disappears all the time. My guess is he's being brought in to fill up minutes, but more so for his shootout specialism.
I did not mind Mueller. He was a necessary evil at times. We have a bunch of speedy wingers who disappear all the time so welcome to the club, Brad.
Boyes is a lot more accomplished than Mueller and was a key to replacing PA Parenteau and helping the Islanders to the playoffs.
As for a turnover machine, he was only a -6 last year and has a positive +/- since 2008. Not amazing by any means in that category but hes not David Booth -31 either.
+/- is a terrible stat though.
Ask any Islanders fan, he's a product of Tavares. +/- does not indicate how much a player turns the puck over. If anything, it's a sloppy stat that indicates how he and his linemates play a two-way game (but gets totally f***ed by the fact that +/- is not effected in PP and SH situations).
Stats are actually kept for turnovers though. Ready for it? Last season, he turned the puck over 21 times more than he took the puck away. Mueller, on the other hand, took the puck away 21 times more than he gave it away (one of Mueller's redeeming characteristics was his responsibility with the puck). That ugly statistic for Boyes actually puts him in the bottom 5% of the league last season. There's a reason why he's here on a tryout and didn't get a contract off the bat considering his relatively successful season. He's not what he seems.
I, for one, still welcome Boyes. We need him in the shootout and we need extra bodies to avoid this team being filled with any more rookies than it will already have.
