Perennial all-star. We'll trade him for nothing first.
Wasnt really a good 1st half. It was a good May. He was awful in April and June.
Papi is more of an outfielder than a SS right now He might be able to play 3rd base
True, but he has the potential to be the best bat in the league.
The thing with Turner is that speed is the most easily projectable tool. He's an 8 for sure. With a reasonable translation of his bat into the major leagues, he could be a very good player.
But I might be biased. I really like fast, contact-type players.
Just about every website shows Turner as a top 5 pick, most show him as first position player on the board, all of them show him in the top 2 or 3 position players... Papi barely cracks top 100 in most, and none project him to be a SS.
Per MLB prospect.com here are the top SS prospects
Trea Turner NC St
Jacob Gatewood HS Clovis Ca
Ti'Quan Forbes HS Columbia Ms
Nicholas Gordon HS Windemere Fl [Dee's Brother)
Joey Pankake South Carolina South Carolina has moved him to 3rd base/Of
Kevin Mosequit HS Deerfield Fl
Milton Ramos HS Hialeah Gardens Fl
Liam Sabino HS East Stroudsberg Pa
Casey Turgeon Florida
Sean Bouchard HS San Diego Ca
Jonathan Ducoff HS Kingwood Tx
Reese Cooley HS Fleming Island Fl
Joe Dunand HS Miami Fl
BTW if I am not mistaken Joe Dunand may be ARod's nephew
let me know if I am right
Trea Turner is the type of player that will register a high WAR because of his superior speed and range at SS. He will be able to stick at SS according to most scouts with solid defense. An all around talent if everything works well, at the very least he's a 5 WAR player at his peak.
many believe the Marlins should draft top notch catching talent
Here are the catchers...
Alex Jackson HS Escondido Ca
Jackson Reetz HS Hickman Ne
Chase Vallot HS Youngsville La
Max Pentecoste Kennesaw St
Mark Zagunis Virginia Tech
Brett Austin NC State
Bryce Carter HS Tulsa Ok
Aramis Garcia Florida International (my Alma Mater)
Connor Lynch Georgia Tech
Benito Santiago HS Pembroke Pines Fl (yes, he is his son}
Taylor Gushue Florida
Spence Levine HS Miami Fl
Michael Cantu HS Corpus Christie Tx
BTW This organization also lacks any prospect of significance at 1st base
Kyle Schwarber Indiana
Kel Johnson HS Palmetto Ga
JD Davis Cal State-Fullerton
Keaton McKinney HS Askery Ia
Casey Gillespie Wichita St
Gerard Hernandez HS Phoenix Az
Kevin Cron Texas Christian
JJ Mantijevic HS North Huntington Fl
Jeremy Vasquez HS Palm City Fl
Austin Davidson Pepperdine
We aren't going to draft a need unless its the best player on the board.
We need to stop drafting high school players unless they're Jose Fernandez / Christian Yelich level.
I feel like the Marlins are going to avoid that whenever possible. We can't have a kid take 5 years to develop right now. We need someone we can plug in and move forward with in the not-too-distant future. Luckily, we have a lot of good college options at #2. Personally, I think Trea Turner would be very good for us, and if we had to pick today that's who I would bet my money on.
Overall numbers with Trea, I agree. Plus if we can get Adeiny's bat out of the lineup, I'm all for it.
In the unlikely event that the Astros pass on Rodon, though, have $10 on him going at #2!
But, agreed, Turner.
Adeiny would just move over to 2B. Or the kid would be the 2B because Adeiny is a gold glover at SS/perennial All-Star!
I just noticed Trea Turner is a local Palm Beach County Kid and the range he displays at SS is Ozzie Smith-like (although the scouting report just describes as good), not only is he fast but he is also showing good power which was the main knock against him
Showing power is a knock? I don't get it.
The knock against him was his lack of power but he is now showing decent power He may just have 10 plus HRs next season
I believe this is relating to early scouting reports on him, he hit it only 1 HR in HS in his Senior year
Oh, my bad, I read that wrong.
actually in an interview Turner talks about how he added lift and distance to his hitting by adding a leg kick to his swing, I don't have the link but I could find it if it matters to anyone
The only thing that WOULD concern me in that case is if he tries to become a power hitter and trying to go yard every at bat [causing more strikeouts] rather than being smart and using his speed. Carlos Gomez comes to mind.
But, let's see if we even draft him, first.
