Wild Card
Attempts by the Marlins to deal for Justin Morneau of the Rockies have fallen apart, tweets MLB.com’s Tom Singer. He hears that Miami could rekindle talks with the Pirates regarding a Pedro Alvarez-for-Nathan Eovaldi swap. Yes, please.
Jagsfreak27
Alvarez is not a bad consolation prize, but I really wish we could find a way to get Morneau.
Entendu
I think I would prefer Alvarez. He's younger and we might be buying low.
Wild Card
I think I would prefer Alvarez. He's younger and we might be buying low. Morneau is definitely the better bat. Pedro has the power, but that's 'bout it. He's Jarrod Saltalamacchia with more power and less walks.

pollythewog
Bad defender and too many K's Bad defender at 3b, correct. He wouldn't be playing 3b (He may suck at 1b too)
Wild Card
Pedro's career BB % is .2 higher than Salty. I guess I'm thinking based on last season, where Salty destroyed him. OK, so he's Salty at 1B with more power.
Entendu
We could look into Morse as well

dim
Pass on Alvarez, and if Rockies want too much for Morneau (aka Eovaldi and everything left in the barren wasteland that is our minor league system) then Michael Morse needs to be priority #1. Erick
Pedro is an interesting option. He definitely has upside and I think I'd rather gamble on hjm having a monster power year than even a guy like Morneau. Morneau isn't that great anymore and I don't see him repeating what he did last year.
UltimaKilo
If we can't get Morneau, I'm OK going into spring training with what we have. Around Spring Training there will be cuts and injuries, the Rockies, and other teams, might be willing to trade then.

Same can be said about Eovaldi, but at least he just had a 3 WAR season and he has more control. If you can get the Pirates to also send you something to replace some of the inventory we just lost, you do it.
