I mean that will help. Capps looked very good and maybe its taken the team most of the year without dietrich to realize he is not great but he's our best choice at 2b.

When he's hitting, yes. His defense is atrocious.

When he's not hitting, that's when you trot out your at-the-time best second baseman, Donovan Solano. Unfortunate but true.

Dietrich has never had consistent enough AB's to get a real opportunity. It's not easy to stay "hitting" when you start two, sit two, start three, sit one, etc.

I can agree with that. Also don't like that they really gave him no shot to hit lefties when he was hitting them better in the minors than righties. Ah well. Just Marlins Things.

Absolutely. How can you be expected to hit LHP consistently if your only AB's against them are on accident? Not to mention even when he was struggling, he was still getting on base. His plate discipline the last two years in the minors and majors is not an accident, dude knows the strikezone and takes his walks even when he's not swinging it well. It's gonna blow when they trade him somewhere for nothing and he puts together a string of 5 years @ .260/.360/.450 with 20 HR and 80 RBI.

Young guy like Dietrich who has shown the potential to hit lefties? NO TAKE HIM OUT PINCH HIT PLATOON NO WAY

Older guy like Jones who has proven throughout his career to be absolutely incapable of hitting against lefties, even if said lefty were a child? HE JUST NEEDS A CHANCE TO PROVE WHAT HE CAN DO

You never know how many of these decisions are Redmond's and how many are pushed by the front office, FWIW. Obviously the situation with Jones was pre conceived, Red had no choice but to start him against LHP. It seems like he's tried to get him away from lefties as much as possible as the year has progressed. Dietrich, the situation is not as clear, we can't really tell who it is that hates him. Red has gotten better and better, I have not always been happy with his decisions but they're improving.

You're right, Red has definitely been getting better recently, and that's been nice to see.

While I'm disappointed by the second hashtag, this post is still pretty damn funny-because-it's-true.

Speaking of Jones, of his 391 AB's only 62 are actually against LHP. And most of those were in the beginning of the year. So they've gotten far away from playing him against LHP, and Baker (as usual) has done very well in his AB's against lefties. I wish they would just go to a STRICT platoon, because together (as we already knew) they are very productive.

Jones vs RHP - 83/329, 12 HR, 41 RBI

Baker vs LHP - 25/86, 2 HR, 15 RBI

Combined: 108/415 [.260] with 14 HR and 56 RBI.

Not the worst thing in the world. Better than LoMo.
