2015 Adopt a Marlin Draft

Hello. As most of you know, the Adopt-A-Marlin Draft has been going on strong now for many many years, except for the last few years when it died out due to the death of sigs in posts. Ever since the days of Cameron Maybin and Jeremy Hermida were being drafted people on this board have selected their favorite minor league players and followed their seasons to better inform fans of the best players not in the majors. I have personally taken on this duty since 2009 (although it has been out of commission since 2013 I believe). Each of the last three years I have done this draft, the draft has taken place on May 1st, giving each person a month to see how each the Marlins minor leaguers are doing before drafting them. This time the draft will start on May 7th at approximately 2 PM to give enough time for people to find this post and sign up.

For those of you that haven't done this before, the rules are simple. Those of you who sign up will be randomly selected (from a hat) to pick a current Marlins minor league player. Generally the best minor leaguers are chosen first, although one year we had somebody choose Matt Dominguez over Mike Stanton (when I wrote this original post he was still Mike Stanton. Yes it's been a while), and they lived to regret that decision for the rest of their lives.

After you draft a Marlins minor league player, you will be forced by Admin the almighty to keep up with that players stats throughout the season. Previously we have done it so that you put your person's stats into your sig, but without sigs we need a new way to do that.

Therefore, the plan now is that I will start a thread in this forum on the first day of the month. Once I month, people will post the following.

1. A current picture of the player you drafted along with his name, position, and team that he plays for (Example: Nick Wittgren: http://www.milb.com/images/621295/generic/180x270/621295.jpg

2. Post his statistics on the season. For example; Season totals: 45 games 27.1 IP 30 K's 12 BB's, as well as an interesting stat you usually see posted (Ex: Wittgren has allowed no hits to a right handed hitter on a Sunday etc...). Under his season totals, please put the players statistics for the month being covered. That way we get a sense of the player's progress throughout the season.

3. Finally, post a synopsis of one to two paragraphs about the player, telling us how they are doing, where they are viewed in terms of the future of the team, and if you regret drafting him at that point in the season. You can post other things as well, as it is up to you what to say. Just please make sure to post about the player in the thread once a month otherwise please do not participate in the draft process. An example of what you should post is:

Nick Wittgren is on a tear over the month of June. He's posted an ERA of 1.02 with a high K/BB ratio of 20/1. He's also built up 8 saves over the month and reports online say that he is working in his fastball and slider extremely well right now. Given the current state of the Marlins, it feels as if Wittgren is likely a September call up and could definitely be pitching in the 7th inning of big league games as early as next month. When I drafted him with the 5th overall pick I wasn't sure if he would be more like his poor 1st half of 2014 player or good 2nd half of 2014 self, but it seems based on his success throughout the course of this season that he's a legitimate closer candidate when Cishek commands more money and could play a signficant role in the Marlins future. So far the draft pick has worked out and I'm excited to follow his minor league career for the rest of the season.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Like in previous drafts, the rule is that players with previous major league experience ARE ALLOWED, but only as long as they are not currently playing on the major league squad as of May 1st 2015.

(Added Note: Minor leaguers with prior major league experience are allowed, as long as they are not currently playing on the major league squad as of May 1st).

The draft will does not have a set time limit for when it should finish, however we hope that everybody makes their picks as soon as they are on the clock. There is a two day limit to make picks though. After that, we will move on to the next person. The person who was skipped will be able to make a pick at any time after the time has expired (just like they do in real sports drafts).

Anybody that wants to do this draft, please just post below that you want to be a part of it or simply message me.

Thank you, and hopefully we can make this the most fun draft ever! :)

*raucous applause*

Due to family emergencies going on right now, I'll start the draft right now. Anybody who still wants to join post afterwards and I'll add you to the end of the list.

Here is the order for the draft.

  1. pollyvonwag
  2. SongInTheAir
  3. Hammerhead
  4. Schnellders
  5. MrAndMrsFish

pollyvonwag is now on the clock. You have two days to make the pick, meaning at 9 pm Friday if you haven't make the pick SongInTheAir can come in and pick somebody if you haven't yet.

Apologies I'm going to be lazy and let this slide since there's only 6 people involved now that Hammerhead passed. Thought more would have been involved like a few years ago.

Make your pick. You shouldn't be backing out because there's only a few other people involved.
