June Draft

Recommended Posts

Josh Naylor is a thick bodied, powerful first baseman. He is around 6'1 and 220 pounds and will have to watch his weight. He has excellent power potential and hits the ball hard to all fields. He has swing and miss to him but he has good barrel awareness. He has a strong arm and with effort, he could play RF but I bet his future is at 1B. There is a chance he could become a star with his potential. Naylor is unique in that he is from Canada, so the level of talent he has faced has varied but this year has considerable talent in from the North country this year.

Don't they have to spend the money? I think they reach for a guy in round 1 to spend more in the later rounds. I know other teams have been doing this too.

Most teams reach a tentative money number before selecting a player, so they can spend all of their allotted money, this backfired on the Astros last season, but worked well when they got Correa and McCullers in 2012

Wasn't Heaney ranked really high? I'm actually fine with us getting a power 1st baseman. We did spend a good chunk of money in the off season and we aren't getting production. What do you guys expect? For them to throw more millions away and hope it pays off? Pretty sure the FO is as frustrated as the fans.

this is the way to go as far as the type of player they need.  none of us no anything about this guy so for the person saying this is a horrible pick stop being stupid.

We needed a power bat at a corner infield spot.  we need to load up the bats in our system.  thats the way you build a consistent winner in an MLB where every team has good pitching.

There were better players available, Chris Shaw, Luken Baker were higher rated at first base, Ke'Bryan Hayes at third. There were 4-5 shortstops out there too, that's what makes this a horrible pick in that the Marlins took a guy at #12 who could possibly be there later, Also a rule of thumb about drafting first basemen, that's where you move players after they can't play elsewhere, so not much value all around with this selection

You pick the next best player. If you end up with too many pitchers then you trade him for a bat. You don't pick a #60 ranked first baseman for the 12th pick. Loria clearly picked him to save money.

who cares about these rankings.  literally not one of us has ever seen this kid play one game.
