Colon vs Phelps

With Phelps Batting eighth. Because you know Jhonatan Solano gets on base so much we gotta have that speed on for the top of the order.

Ichiro also starting for Ozuna, Solano for Hech.

(started thread because no thread when lineups came out)

Says a lot when Phelps is batting ahead of Jhonathan Solano. Why Donovan is batting ahead of Yelich is beyond me!? Good to see Ichiro in the lineup though.

What an idiotic lineup.  We are run by morons.  You don't move the pitcher to 8th to have a solano bat 9th.  You do that when you have a good high OBP speedy guy at the bottom of the order.

And for Yelich to be hot and hit Donovan Solano ahead of him makes me furious.  Why must we be run by morons.

If you're gonna do the pitcher 8th thing you make the lineup Gordon, Prado, Stanton, Bour, Yelich, Solano, Solano, Phelps, Ichiro.

We are literally run by an idiot.

We will win today , lineup does not matter

aside from an absurd lineup it generally does not matter, but for our team to be run by a guy who thinks that this is the ideal lineup if we were to bat the pitcher 8th is fucking stupid.  there is no other way around it.  Good thing we have our hottest hitter hitting right in front of the pitcher today.

"It's a little bit of putting more meat on the bone for the top of our order, give RBI opportunities for two through five (in the lineup)," Jennings said.

Jennings said the the lineup wrinkle also provides better double-switch possibilities, and gives Phelps a better chance of dropping down a successful sacrifice bunt with the speedier Christian Yelich hitting in front of him rather than the slower Solano.

Jennings also has Ichiro Suzuki batting in the fifth spot based on his prior success against Colon (.317 average in 102 career plate appearances).

"We just looked at it in the perspective of today knowing that Johnatan was going to start," Jennings said. "Trying to be a little creative with the personnel we had playing today. We'll see how it unfolds."

1. Ichiro has a .290 average vs Colon, most of which came when Ichiro was still a star and not a 4th outfielder and that includes a .298 OBP for a great OBP guy when he was younger.  And that was when he was young and a star.  So that is idiotic.  Those numbers would be a great reason to not have Ichiro play.

2.  Having Solano hit 9th is providing absolutely no RBI opportunities.

3.  The fact that we are making our lineup around potential sacrifice bunts shows just how poorly run this team is.

Guys, Jennings had to make a whole song and dance about it because he couldn't really say, "we're batting Solano ninth because he might actually be a worse hitter than our starting pitcher"

I would have preferred that explanation, it would have made more sense.
