marlingirl
This guy's cheap, young, and has great potential for the pen. What do you guys think?
Beinfest4Prez
Cheap... I don't think so. Thee Cubs are letting him go because there worried about the cost to keep him. But that would be a great pickup for our bullpen.
Wild Card
The Cubs don't want to give away any pitcher in the farm system with a strand of talent, so why would they trade their best young reliever?

Jayson Stark thinks the cubs are willing to trade him.
jonnylons
then they would have to not offer him arbitration...if that is the case, then he becomes a FA (last I checked). I doubt seriously that the Cubs would do this...but then again, it is the Cubs.
Marlins2003
Didn't we light this kid up like a strand of christmas lights in the NLCS? Seems to me we owned the guy. Anyone else remember what his performance was like in the NLCS?

Anyone else remember what his performance was like in the NLCS? 5IP are not indicative of his ability so I don't know where your going with that. Farnsworth is a good option for us depending on the price of course. 3 medium grade pitching prospects might do it? Anything that requires our top prospects should not be considered. Heres a look at his performance overthe yrs: Starter initially, but failed somewhat, so he was moved to the pen... age 24...started 5 games and came from the pen the other 42...6.43 ERA age 25...first full season in the pen, overworked a bit...82IP, 107K, 29BB, 65H with a 2.74 ERA age 26...showed signs of wear from his age 25 season going only 46IP with a 7+ ERA age 27...last season he wasn't as good as Benitez, but close....76IP, 92K, 36BB, 53H I'm just guessing here, but power pitchers have a better chance at PPS because their aggressive pitching won't hurt them as much with the fences being so far back. He made 600K in 2003.

Shamrock
i still dont see what the Cubs would be thinking here Same. He can't cost that much in arby to bring him back, but maybe the signing of Hawkins made him expendable. I'd love to keep Loop...can we offer him a contract and ignore arbitration? Something like 2yrs 5MM? He made 1.6 last season.

If yes, I agree that they should try to ink Looper to a 2 years contract.
jonnylons
First off, why is Farnsworth an option all of a sudden? Was he not offered arbitration? Secondly, I would just as soon trade Looper straight up for him - but that would mean we would have to sign Looper. I like Farnsworth, and yes, we did light him up - but I just have the feeling it was more about us than about him. It was our time, Mr. Anderson (sorry, Matrix reference). But I have no idea why the Cubs would consider moving Farnsworth...anyone have any idea!!! :banghead
Marlins2003
Sham, I wasn't drawing any conclusions about his overall performance last year.

AJBurnett34
Kyle Farnsworth has great potential but he hasnt shown what he can do other than throw 100 MPH almost Consistantly. He has been having very bad years with the Cubs and Blowing alot of leads. I wouldnt go after him at this moment.
Guest Juanky
I think if the price is right it is worth it. He could thrive here in Pitcher's Paradise.
