Well that was a stunner for sure. I'm happy to eat my words from my previous post. Onyewu and DeMerit were incredible. The US team was fit and fired up. I haven't been a big fan but you have to give Bob Bradley credit. The defense won this match. I hope American soccer fans appreciate the magnitude of this upset.

My uncle is a die hard Spain fan and he even bet $100 on the game and ended up going double or nothing. I made sure i called him after the loss to make sure he didn't commit suicide.

Also i walked into his house singing this song.

it was a nice win considering that Spain has a more talented team. maybe in 2010 the US will actually advance out of their pool, which is possible as long as they play the outstanding defense they played yesterday.

just had a question. most of the star players on USA's national team play internationally because they actually get recognition but why doesn't donovan play internationally. he's a pretty good player and he might be popular playing for a european club.

Wasn't he playing for a German club or something.

Early in his career he had a short stint at Bayer Leverkusen and this spring he spent a month with Munich on loan and carried himself well but he had contractual obligations with LA so he came back to MLS. I would not be surprised to see him return to Europe in the future.

I doubt it, Landon loves being a big fish in a small pond. I bet he stays in the MLS.

They've done it before, I guess it all depends on the draw. 2006 wasn't exactly an easy draw -- they certainly were outplayed by the Czechs but ground out a TOUGH draw against Italy with 9 men and were in the game with Ghana all the way. No excuses, that was an underwhelming performance, but I think this team is better especially up top with Altidore and Davies.

I know he is injured just now but is Maurice Edu a regular in your national side when fit? He got far more playing time in the second half of the season for Rangers and looked pretty good. However Beasley barely at all for us this year.

He's just breaking in. We have a couple of really strong defensive midfielders in Ricardo Clark and Pablo Mastroeni. But Edu is the part of a group of players in Torres, Kljestan, and Bradley that are breaking more and more into the national team.

Like Mets-bs said he's just breaking in but I expect we'll see more of him as time goes on. Beasley on the other hand has looked completely lost out there to me and I think his national team days are dwindling.

that kick from alves was clutch. although brazil wasn't that impressive against s. africa. if the US can play good defense like they did against spain and get some good shots on goal, victory wouldn't be out of reach.

Man City offers 30 million euros for Samuel Eto'o. If he goes could open the door for Villa or Ibrahimovic move to Camp Nou.

i hope ibrahimovic doesn't go, internazionale would be screwed without him. also i read he doesn't want to leave italy because his family has gotten accustomed to the culture and language.

definitely. the guiza off the post goal was pure luck. after that i went to tell my dad that the game was over at 2-1 and of course s. africa scored the game tying goal as i did that. you could tell that spain didn't care about this game til the last 10 minutes.

Well we couldn't hold on but still a good showing by the USA, started strong, but just couldn't contain a superior Brazil squad.
