Vokoun is god its sucks that people underrated him because he gives up almost 2 goals a game but in reality he saves about 35+ a game with the sh*tty defenseman he has playing infront.

Defense has gotten better, too.
Offense is struggling now because of the injuries. 6 games left before the Olympic Break, hopefully we can at least play .500 hockey in those 6 games.

This is probably about the first time I can really say that the offense struggling is justified. Which makes me feel secure lol. But it should get back on a roll now that we are slowly getting some guys back.

And yes, while the defense has started playing better, no, Vokoun has not. That's something people just fail to realize the difference. The before Vokoun was a goalie who was usually left out to dry, the now Vokoun is the same Vokoun but with a team that wants to play defense. Honestly you cant hold Vokoun liable for that. He tried his hardest and received hate for a poor defense... but now he gets more love for a better defense.

I guess it's being that you cant measure defense but you can measure goaltending... it's automatically taken away that it's a direct goaltending result.

Nationally, is there a more faceless/nameless team than the Panthers?

I was thinking of this last night. If you went around to random cities and asked people to name players on different teams (in all sports), I think the panthers would be the least known team in any of the big four sports. I also thought of the Oklahoma City Thunder since I cant name any players on that team.

I think there are even lesser known hockey teams (guys like the Blue Jackets, Coyotes, Predators, et al.)

A quick look (in a very unscientific way) at Sporicle's quizzes for the Big Four US Sports Teams (taken 370,732 times) and NHL Teams (213,707) basically back me up in this. The Panthers are on the top 50% in both quizzes.

Rangers just traded for Olli Jokinen -- which regardless of how he plays was a good trade since we'll be dumping his salary at the end of the season -- but I remember this guy being a great pivot with the Panthers, he's garbage now. Terrible.

I am not going to lie, that is surprising.

However, I didnt mean people remembering the fact that the florida panthers exist. I mean how many of people can actually name a current player on the panthers? That first link had the Panthers somehow ahead of the Vikings. Most people know Bret Farve or AP. Who knows David Booth? The panthers dont have a player in the top 30 in points and havent made the playoffs in ten years.

Is there a more faceless/nameless team out there?

That survey is a little flawed if you type in Giants, it give you both Giants even if you were only thinking of NY. I am sure a lot of people typed panthers thinking it was Carolina. The reds and white sox also benefited. If you typed in red or sox, both of them appear with the redsox.

I know its not a scientific survey, but I highly doubt the Panthers are more well known than the Packers, Dolphins or Vikings.

You have a point there which I hadn't thought of, but still when you look at NHL teams alone the Panthers were in the top half (though right at it) of the poll. I'm not surprised at all, the Panthers are more well known than any of those teams I mentioned before. Yeah, I agree that they are rather faceless, but not more nameless than the Nashville Predators, which I think the majority of ESPN watchers wouldn't remember exist at all. If you google them, the "Florida Panthers" almost 100,000 more hits than the "Nashville Predators".

I cant name anyone on the Predators without looking at their roster.

Actually come to think of it, I am having trouble naming players on on a lot of teams for the NHL and NBA. I really dont follow the NBA and the Panthers have really really dampened my interest in the NHL these past few years.

Kevin Durant? He's pretty much a star now.

As for the Panthers, you might be right, but it all depends what part of the world we're talking about, etc. I guarantee you, for example, that the Panthers are probably one of the more popular teams in the Czech Republic.

I agree. Not that this is an NBA thread, but the Thunder would be a lock for the playoffs in the East this year. They might make it in the tough Western Conference.

In the NBA, Tyreke Evans is a good young player.
In the NHL (for people who know the sport), a bunch of guys. The LA Kings are one of the best young teams in hockey. Kopitar, Doughty, and Quick (one of our goalies in the Olympics) are well-known names in the sport by now. Jack Johnson is also pretty recognized because of his potential.

Tyreke Evans and whether you can name a player or not, the hockey Kings are no joke anymore. Very good team. Anze Kopitar is a great young player.

Andrew Cogliano (one of the fasters skaters in hockey, Lubomir Visnovsky (underrated D man).
Btw regarding the Kings...we might be able to say Ilya Kovalchuk for them pretty soon...

This is silly because it really all depends on what you watch/like. You ask me to name hockey players, I pretty much know every team. What's being said about hockey, I can probably say about golf or nascar, etc. It depends on what people like.

Panthers suck.
dont get me wrong I like them, but s*** this team doesnt have the talent right now. They dont have a dominant player, they dont have someone that can score consistenly. I would be very surprised if this team makes it to the playoffs.

Pat yourself on the back, you are not one of 95% of people in America who can not name an oiler.
