But you're also looking at the travel/hotel/ect aspect that comes with away games.

Ya lost me there.

But the thought is intriguing. MLB wants this to happen. They are the ones behind it. So I would have to wonder how much, if any, of the bill they are footing. How much, if any, of the bill did they cover for those Tokyo games last year? Or the last time we played in PR?

Think about it from an owner's standpoint. MLB comes to you and says we want you to play in
such-and-such a country. I would say "Besides the potential of MAYBE expanding my fanbase, what's in it for me? Why should I invest my $$$ into something that is a 'maybe' and take away home games that are a known source of revenue?" And what, if any, input does the Players Union have? Or the other unions that are associated with MLB?

Actually this is pretty interesting to me. Think I'll ask Tin Boy when I see him at the Holiday Party this month.

It doesnt really bother me now that a new stadium is under way. A few years ago I was really against it when it was proposed. Now that the Marlins are locked into Miami, what's the harm in playing 3 games elsewhere? There are still 78 other home games.

do you think PR will treat the marlins like they're the home team though? i mean, we're losing THREE home games.

It doesn't make sense for the marlins - at least for the mets series.

The mets will draw well in miami and that would be a decent series to draw revenue.

The mets will also be the more popular team in PR

I could maybe see a different series though

I think this is some kind of payback to MLB for their help in the stadium situation / ownership arrangement to help them promote the game down there

I can totally see that. Us not agreeing to help MLB after all they did for us would be pretty hypocritical. But I can understand why it is the Mets series. They WILL be a big draw there. And it's vs the Marlins because we are close to there.

Because we are the home team I would think we will be the ones drawing the revenue. Just like (maybe even better) than if we played at Joe Robbie. Not exactly sure, but if that is the case then it nullifies that negative aspect.

The ones who should be complaining are the South Florida Mets fans. Or the Mets fans that come down here to visit mommy and daddy's money, which just coincidentally matches the same times their team is in town. And who really cares what they think?

LOL Have a good time. I hear it's a beautiful place. I have a friend who has a vacation home there and has been after me for years to join them for a week or so. But something else always comes up. This year I'm taking my limited vacation time and visiting my parents $$$ north of Syracuse and driving down to Cooperstown.

This article says that we'll be announcing the games in PR today. Not sure how legit it is though.

I know the Marlins would like to claim Puerto Rico's television market so that they can air games there locally. Samson has made hints at increased marketing to Latin America in the coming years. MLB has to make decisions because Puerto Rico is currently a no-win situation with only nationally televised games airing there. Plus, Marlins scratch MLB's back and MLB will scratch their back with an All Star Game and WBC.

I'm pretty sure both are already a given. But the basis for this thought and post is not wrong, IMO.

I'm really glad that his comments got your endorsement. I was beginning to get worried.

PORT ST. LUCIE - The Mets received confirmation that their June 28-30 series against the Marlins has been moved from Miami to San Juan. The Amazin's last played at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in April 2004, against the Montreal Expos. The Puerto Rican contingent from the Mets could include Carlos Beltran, Pedro Feliciano, Angel Pagan, Alex Cora and Omir Santos.

I noticed yesterday on the Marlins web site that they have 78 home games scheduled for this season for the full season ticket package.

I love Puerto Rico. I wonder if I can use this as an excuse to go back...
