Why don't they sell naming rights to the dugouts and bases too while there at it.

"Hanley slides into Bacardi 2nd base with is 25th double of the year." :bangdesk

What about the talk of having the players dress like race car drivers(ads all over their uniforms)? Where do you guys draw the line if anywhere?

Why do you need to take it to the extreme? Where are you finding any precedence for this? Do they name the yard markers in Minn for sponsors?

I just put out a thought of what could happen and gave an example of it being done before. Not saying it will, or that I agree with it. Just putting it out there because it hasn't been mentioned before on these boards. If you feel the need to bash, show something that supports the tantrum.

I was just trying to show you the slippery slope that you were going down. (Structure, field, dugouts, bases. uniforms)

I see where you are coming from. But it's not a slippery slope at all and has some credence to it. I used the one for the Vikings as a reference because that's the one that brought it to mind. Personally I would have no problem with the city (the real owners) naming the entire complex with something honoring the OB site, and the Marlins getting $$$ from a sponsor for the playing field and it's related areas. Maybe a better way of putting it, and one I am far more familiar with, is the way the Broncos and Denver/Colorado did it. The folks of Colorado wanted the old Mile High Stadium honored (rose holy heck about it actually), so the name of the new place ultimately became INVESCO Field At Mile High. In the end it's exactly the same thing. Just a different way of looking at it.

I thought I read somewhere that stadiums couldn't be named after hard alcohol brands... I tried googling it but I couldn't find anything to support that. Does anybody know if it's true?

I'm asking this because I was wondering if Bacardi could actually buy the naming rights for the stadium.

That's a good question. As far as I know the only US stadiums/ballparks/arenas named after even just a beer brand have only been Busch, Land Shark and what would have been Labatt Park in Montréal if Loria got the public money he wanted to build that stadium. If it's not flat out banned, I would guess that it's seriously frowned upon based on the history, or lack thereof, of sports venues and alcohol sponsorships.

=] Thank you! I knew I'd heard something about it but I wasn't certain!

Miller as well, though it bears mentioning that the original Busch Stadium was actually named after the owner of the team, who also owned Busch brewing company.

I somewhat remember hearing that MLB actually did ban teams from playing in a ballpark named after a hard liquor when this discussion first took place a few years back, but I don't know if that's actually the rule.

Wasn't their hard liquior sponsors used during the late games? I thought I remembered Captain Morgan being mentioned during a game by Rich and Tommy but it wasn't a commercial. Actually I think it might've been both. I remember being surprised. It could've been a Heat game though.
