Rays tie it on a BJ Upton solo HR off Nolasco. 1-1.

Nice diving play by Coghlan on a ball in the gap! Good sign there.

I doesn't look like we are going to have a lefty in our rotation this season.

Ok cool, I never knew there was such a game. We face the Mets in a proper ST game aswell today do we not?

Ok so it is only 1 inning, and I'm taking this purely from the box score but a slight bit of encouragement regarding Anibal Sanchez. After retiring the leadoff hitter, he did give up a double to Castillo and then a walk to David Wright, however he then proceeded to strike out both Bay and Francouer.

Ok its only ST and ok he did gave up a hit and a walk but being an effective pitcher in situations like these are what we need.

Hopefully he continues well and tosses a few more positive innings today cos boy, dont we need some good signs from starters other than JJ-Nolasco.

Hopefully Anibal can return to 2006 form. I feel bad for the guy. He has good stuff (many different pitches... fastball, changeup, slider, and curve). He used to be able to throw all those pithes for strikes. That's the main hurdle for him. If he can throw those pitches for strikes and stay healthy, I have no doubt he can be a very good starter for us.

Obviously he was really good in 06 but I'd take his 09 ERA in a heartbeat! 3.87 or something along those lines wasnt it? That would do very nicely as a 3rd starter.

If he can make 25-30 starts, absolutely. Anibal got kind of lucky last year... his WHIP was 1.51. That kind of WHIP usually leads to an ERA in the high 4s/low 5s. In contrast, Ricky Nolasco's WHIP last year was only 1.25, yet his ERA was much higher than Anibal's. Ricky was unlucky and Anibal was lucky. If they produce similar WHIPS this season, more than likely Ricky's ERA will be in the mid 3's and Anibal's will be in the high 4s.

5-0 up against the Mets, managed to tag the runs to Maine, but nothing to Santana.

Peterson and Lamb are continuing to have good performances in spring training. It'd be nice to see Morrison do a little better, but maybe he's having the kind of spring training that Gaby Sanchez had last year.

Wood keeps having a good spring, he might just make the roster.
