keep saying it They're clean up hitter is piazza and he just isn't very good anymore. 687289 I guess everyone has the right to an opinion, but Piazza is one of those players I hate to see at the plate against the Marlins. He is still one of the top sluggers in the game when healthy. Just look at his 1st half stats last year. Even the year before, he was hitting well over .300 before injuring his groin. His age is a major factor in his health, but I think he's still very good. You throw in the addition of Beltran, Wright's potential and the 2 speedy guys at the top, and yes I do think the Mets could have one of the best line-up's in the East. That said, I'd still take the Marlins line-up. :thumbup
2. WPLG does not support the Marlins nor the Ballpark. This is their editorial on it. http://www.local10.com/editorials/4131275/detail.html WPLG has more editorials than most newspapers. 682942 I wouldn't say WPLG in general doesn't support the stadium effort. I was watching their Sports Jam show a couple of weeks ago and one of their sports guys was for the stadium effort and the other was against it (I think Cefalo was against it, but I could be wrong). I just think Putney is a political guy, so he doesn't like political money going to sports teams.
3. I have the baseball package on DirectTV, and I watched some late night Mariner games. He was the guy doing in stuff around the field usually. I'm not sure if I ever heard him doing the play-by-play. He seemed like a guy with a good personality. I'm sure he'll be fine. :thumbup
4. When was the last time Frank Forte ever said a good word about the Fish? 681672 I never really noticed he didn't say good things about the Marlins. I'm just trying to think of good candidates for the job. He and Minerveni seem like decent choices locally. (Even though Minerverni can be a little annoying at times) Obviously, I don't know much about the national guys up for the job, so I'm thinking of local people.
5. What's Frank Forte doing these days? I always liked him on Ch.10 and he's done a good job with Canes football and baseball games.? Not sure if he's a candiate. I think he's still in town on some radio show, but I'm not sure. 681550 He's with 850 WFTL. 681552 Thanks! :thumbup
6. Fick is what you'd call a "hard nosed" player. I think he'd be a good guy to have on the team. He plays a handful of positions and it's always nice to have an extra left-handed bat on the bench. :thumbup That said, I think Wilson Delgado is also a nice player to have around.

8. You guys are unbelievable!? What do you want the guy to say?? Um... I think I'll sign with the Marlins for 5-7 million a year because I'm loyal to them.? Please!!! There are no loyalties in sports.? Why should there be?? AJ Burnett has to look out for his future and family.? If he feels he can sign a Carl Pavano type contract in the off-season... why shouldn't he give it a shot?? He's in his prime and this will be the only time in his life he'll have a chance to make that much money. As for his 34 healthy starts comment?? I think it's pretty obvious:? He knows if he makes 34 "healthy" starts, he'll win 16-18 games, strikeout over 200 and have a sub 3.50 ERA. 681408 doctor10 Welcome, the AJ goes deeper than just wanting to test the free agent market. He has rubbed the fans the wrong way with his statement about getting tried of playing in front of 2000 people and doesn't blame Carl for leaving for that reason. His statements always come off as selfish player Going back to his arm injuries and blaming the organization.WHY? doesn't he know his own body. I don't blame the organization for that going no higher than 2 years on a contract for him. History of arm troubles and high maintenance make him a very high risk player for a team that has to have all its players proforming up to there contracts. I hope the organization and AJ come to agreement , but I don't see at this time. AJ is determined to get out here and test the market. I hope I'm wrong in the end 681446 I don't blame the Marlins at all for offering a lesser deal. Signing AJ for a large amount of money over 3-4 years is a major risk. I'm just looking at it from AJ's point of view. By the way, I've always thought him to be very cocky (just like many others on this forum), but I can't deny his talent. He's a brash and cocky guy. He can rub people the wrong way (as evidenced by your examples), but he's a guy I like to have on our side. I think the chances are slim that he stays after this season, but who knows? You're right that he seems pretty hell-bent to test the market.

10. Burnett will get WAY more than Carl ... Burnett " IF HEATHLY " is the one of the top 5 pitchers in the league...and I would go as far as to say that he can be the "best" pitcher in the league for the next 3 or 4 seasons. Personally I wish our Fish would have JUMPED on the 3 yr 21 million dollar contract AJ was seeking. And I know AJ is cocky, arrogant and ungrateful...but being ungrateful is the nature of pro sports now (its get all you can get). AJ I hope you sign with us...if you greed out I hope you find yourself like pudge...playing for a loser for life. 678564 As others have pointed out already, it's hard to fault the guy for wanting to make big money. I mean really, how often do you have to make that much money during your life? He's entering the prime of his career, and he knows how good he can be. I hope he stays in South Florida, but he'd be silly "not" to go somewhere else if he can make millions more.
11. Good for him if he wants to take the risk. I think we all know that when healthy, he can be better than Pavano. He's got some of the best stuff in the game. The Marlins are doing the right thing by giving him a reasonable offer, but AJ knows that if he puts together a big season... he'll cash in! That said, it's a risk for him considering his injury history. :mischief2
