Luzardo Ineffectively Wild in Loss
Jesús Luzardo struggled mightily on Monday, walking five batters and surrendering eight hits in a disappointing 7-0 defeat to the New York Yankees.
The Marlins starter saw his ERA balloon to 7.20 after allowing seven runs in just 4.2 innings. Two home runs in the fourth inning proved to be Luzardo's undoing, as he dropped his second decision of the young season (0-2).
The Miami bullpen provided a bright spot, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings after Luzardo's exit. Burch Smith and Matt Andriese combined for five strikeouts and yielded only one hit in relief.
Offensively, the Marlins were stymied by Nestor Cortes' dominance. Miami mustered a mere two singles, both from the bat of Bryan De La Cruz. Jake Burger endured a hitless night, striking out three times.
The Marlins will look to bounce back on Tuesday with A.J. Puk taking the mound.
