Cubs Crush Marlins 8-3 in Series Opener

The Chicago Cubs kicked off their home stand with a convincing 8-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Friday at Wrigley Field. Starter Jameson Taillon, sharp after returning from a back injury, pitched five impressive innings, allowing just one run and striking out four. His strong outing set the tone for the Cubs' win.

Infielder Nico Hoerner tormented Marlins pitching, ripping two doubles and sparking the Cubs' offense. The Marlins' woes continued as they fell to a league-worst 4-16 record. Their bats remained mostly silent against the Cubs' pitching staff. While Bryan De La Cruz launched his fourth home run of the season, it wasn't enough to bridge the gap.

A.J. Puk struggled mightily for Miami, surrendering a career-high seven runs and seven hits in just three innings. The Cubs wasted no time getting on the board thanks to RBIs from outfielder Cody Bellinger and shortstop Dansby Swanson in the first inning. Catcher Miguel Amaya delivered a crucial two-run double in the third inning, extending the Cubs' lead during a four-run rally.

Due to Thursday's rainout, the teams will play a split doubleheader on Saturday. Here's a look at the anticipated starting pitchers:

Game 1: Jesús Luzardo (0-2, 7.65 ERA) for the Marlins vs. Javier Assad (2-0, 2.16 ERA) for the Cubs.

Game 2: Marlins prospect Roddery Muñoz (expected MLB debut) vs. Shota Imanaga (2-0, 0.00 ERA) for the Cubs.
