  1. Enjoy this day guys. Catch your breath. What we’re about to see in the rest of this month is pretty historic moment of 24 straight days of baseball without a day off. Probably will never see this again in any of our lifetimes(hopefully not as everyone needs at least 1 day off a week from work, even if your job is playing games😂) But I have to admit, as a baseball fan it’s pretty fun knowing that there will be a baseball game every single day and some of those days there will be two games. Hope all the Marlins players are having a nice relaxing day. Except for Robert Dugger, he should be deep cleaning the clubhouse, At least do something useful for the team and make up for his 16.62 ERA. 😂

  2. The plan moving forward "should be" to be consistently contending. Not sure there's room for an injured and declining hitter who's mostly here for experience. That's what we had with Martin Prado the last few seasons. We need to get past that.

  3. I honestly thought JT was the consummate professional through the whole rebuild. I think there's a good reason he was the last traded. The bigger issue is that there's a reason he hasn't re-signed with the Phillies yet: He wants to break the bank. He's been very vocal in the past about setting new precedents for catchers in arbitration. I think he sees his FA contract as not just a chance to cash in (which he certainly will either way), but as a chance to help future catchers who are a historically underpaid position. I think he'd be more than willing to sign with Miami, but I'm not sure how deep the coffers go for the FO. I think they're still paying like $19M in deferrals from the psychotic Chen contract in 2021.

  4. I’m all for the DH in the NL. It honestly feels “normal” at this point. As far as another bat, I think Joc Pederson makes a lot of sense Lefty power bat to split up the Marte, Aguilar, Cooper, Anderson core. Can play RF, and hit enough to DH if/when Monte/Jesus Sanchez is ready.

  5. Interesting thought. Do you think that we will still have the DH position next year? I’m actually enjoying in this year, I mean it feels so weird to see a DH in the NL lineups but still it’s a fun thing to watch. I wonder if they will decide to try another season with it or not.

  6. Yep - I think honestly with a month in AAA next year for each of em, they'll be fine. Work on the flaws that were found and bring em back up, if performance warrants.

  7. Exactly, we as fans might have to wait another season or two before all of the pieces come together. The shortened season really hurt extra development they would have had.

  9. I would love to see the Marlins bring JT Realmuto and Marcell Ozuna back home. Ain’t gonna happen. But I would still love to see it.

  10. What's cool about the rotation's potential is that the up-and-coming guys are actually pretty close to ready, not live arms in A-ball. We've already seen Sixto, Rogers, and Elieser look good. Cabrera, Neidert, Braxton were/would have been in the upper minors. Meyer hasn't played in the minors, but he's a polished college arm. That all gives me a lot more hope.

  13. Imagine if Jeffrey Loria was still the owner, he would probably fire Don Mattingly later this evening and name David Samson interim manager. 😂

  14. No. This is battle where we are the aggressor.. This is saddling up and heading into town looking for that pennant. Not a defense of anything, instead we are the aggressor. We are coming into town and taking what we seek. We are ripping the hopes and dreams from the armies we conquer along the way until we are left on the battlefield, waving our flag proudly over our vanquished opponents.

  16. Is it a no-brainer to retain Aguilar because he's still under control ? Is it afforded to this team to develop many position players (Lewin, Isan, Jazz, Monte and Jesus) in the majors at the same time if we're in the win-now mode for the next season ? Should this team goes all in to contend and to trade for one or two controllable big bat (the FA class is not good ) ? Alfaro seems not a long term solution behind the plate, so is it not just a dream to sign back JT ? This team is not two elite SP away from contend in the era of Stanton but maybe is two elite hitter away from contend in the era of Sixto.

  17. JIMMY FUCK ITS JUST HAD 40! I CALL HIM THAT BECAUSE WHEN HE SHOOTS THE BALL, HE SAYS “FUCK IT BALL GOING IN”. Sorry for the all caps just very excited. Miami is up 1-0 in the 2nd round over the one seed Milwaukee Bucks. It’s nice to see the Marlins and Heat both as legitimate championship contenders! YES I SAID IT! 🔥

  18. Dugger needs to be cleaning the clubhouse like the guy washing the truck while Holly watches.... "nice and deep-like"

  19. If somebody with the Twitters could ping Mish or Frisaro, I'd like to know the answer to this. Because I'm like $1000% sure there's multiple millions of deferred dollars due to Chen in 2021. I could be mistaken. But I'm not.

  20. Never said Perez was a building block, that's why I mentioned Pudge who was a "finishing piece" in 2003. Pudge played 12 seasons before his 13th season as a Marlin. Perez will be a FA after full 10 seasons.

  21. First, I get that we want to talk about potential offseason moves, but I feel we should've held off on this thread since we're still in it - it's been nice watching actual meaningful games this season, and this thread makes me feel like we're throwing in the towl..... Anyway, that said, here are my comments on these posts.... Yeah, a signing like that at that stage in the career is more like a finishing piece, and not a building block that the poster was trying to make it be. I agree. I think it's here to stay. And if they do revert to traditional rules next year, I 100% guarantee the DH will be in the NL as part of the next CBA. Very easy bone for the league to throw to the union, especially with how contentious those negotiations are sure to be. Frankly, I've liked having the DH, and have thought it's time for it to happen anyway for a few reasons. I do enjoy seeing a pitcher get the occasional big hit or seldom HR, but 1) the essentially automatic out is annoying 2) with pitcher contracts growing higher and higher (or honestly even for young controlled guys), we don't need them getting hurt batting/running the bases 3) having the DH allows a manager to rotate guys in and out while still having their bat in the lineup 4) having the DH allows NL teams to more evenly compete with the AL for signing guys as they can slot guys there as they age (this can go both ways, though, as an NL team sans DH may avoid offering an albatross contract in the first place) 5) I get the whole "strategy" argument, but it's nice not having to pull a pitcher that's cruising because you get a chance to score and need to pinch hit for him to do so.

  22. A team of 2 WAR players rarely if ever gets you into the playoffs, by my calculation. BASELINE WAR: 52 wins for a team full of replacement players, ie 0 WAR. https://www.sports-reference.com/blog/2012/08/the-relationship-between-war-and-team-wins/ Say: - 8 position players = 16 WAR - 5 starting pitchers = 10 WAR - 8 bullpen pitchers = 4 WAR - 4 Bench position players = 2 WAR 52 + 16 + 10 + 4 + 2 = 84 wins 84 wins has made the playoffs like 6 times ever.

  23. i think the addition of the NL DH for "this year" was more like a wink wink nudge nudge "this year" type of deal and that's how it'll be going forward.

  25. I think Marlins need to get a solid bullpen piece and get one more hitter to go along with Marte. Maybe trade Urena and some other minor pieces for a decent bat like possibly Miguel Andujar who is controllable through 2024 or Ketel Marte who I believe is a Free Agent around the same time. I know Andujar plays 3B, maybe he could DH or move Anderson to RF since I’m not too impressed with our OF prospects. Marte I think is a good choice cause he can play multiple positions. Someone suggested Liam Hendricks as a bullpen piece; I think that would be a great acquisition. But Marlins need to keep Sixto, Andy, Pablo, untouchables imo. I would definitely retain Aguilar though for sure I like him a lot.

  26. Just the fact that they're in the Big Leagues makes them that. To be fair. ❤️

  27. He did the same thing for us a couple years ago and then started getting torched. Stop living in the past. Do you want Donovan Solano back, too?

  29. I’d like to see us bolster the bullpen with a guy like Liam Hendricks. The brand of this team right now is pitching and defense, and we should double down on that with strong 8th & 9th inning options. As far as Alfaro/C, I don’t see the need for paying a premium for a guy like JT. I’d rather go get a cheaper veteran who knows how to call a game and is reliable defensively. Cervelli was a perfect addition this off-season. I can live with Alfaro’s deficiencies defensively and managing a staff when he’s producing above avg offensively. The combination of poor defense and bad AB’s isn’t going to cut it.

  30. As someone who has worked in sales before. I know she was crossing her fingers waiting for you to say Xfinity or any other major company, she had her list of rebuttals ready to go and was about to give you the most compelling reasoning of why switching to her service would be the best decision you ever made. Then you were like YouTubeTV. She was thinking “Ugh, third time this week, fml”

  31. I agree with this, but with the caveat that we wouldn't have seen nearly this much struggle with them this year if we had a normal season with full minor leagues going.

  32. We should go after a prominent closer to solidify the pen. A catcher that can hit would really make a difference. If we only had a Pudge type of player, a leader, someone who can rally the troops and clutch like he did. One or two of these LHB have to develop fast and flourish.

  34. Despite how it ended Realmuto is not a bad guy and he would probably be able to swallow his old words and return here but we would have to pay him huge and tbh I just dont see it happening at all.

  36. This is exactly right. But keep in mind the 10 lottery tickets that are guaranteed to make $2 also have a non-zero chance of being worth $100. With this little caveat it changes the calculus. By taking on the higher chance of getting $100 you are also taking on a non-zero chance of getting nothing. Yes, this is the worst possible outcome, but this isn't a possible outcome by taking the lower payout. I, as a marlins fan, understand that they have thought about the bet they have made, and that they believe in the law of large numbers. And that unlike in the Loria years they are sticking to that plan long term. I just personally find it stressful to gamble this way. Again, because of the non-zero chance of coming away with nothing.

  37. Honestly, I am jealous of Jose Urena, and that can be presented as what seems like hate. If I did as badly at MY job as Urena does at his, I wouldn't have one. I would be unemployed, not a multi millionaire playing a child's game and traveling in first class accommodations.

  38. Sounds like you have an issue following direction. You will just have to grab that left nut and hope for the best son. Times like these call for our soldiers to be unified in battle. Cannot have any that do not follow direction as that will lead us down a path of failure. Grab that left nut son and give it a big ole squeeze.

  42. I think we're seeing the difference between a team that might luck into a .500 record and a truly competitive team. When the Yankees or Dodgers have injuries, they pull studs from thin air. Marlins are getting much closer to that fancy living lifestyle.

  43. Hahaha. Dugger is still here and Jesus Tinoco got DFA. Probably Billy the Marlin would give the Marlins a better shot on the mound then Dugger. 😂
