  1. "Y'know, Joe, with the Marlins up 8-2 with 2 outs in the 9th inning of this Game 7, I'm really starting to think they might have a shot to do something interesting this year. Now let's talk about that Yelich trade."

  2. I think even if he signs they still lose the trade. Think about it, they would have been better with Sixto on the mound and Alfaro behind the plate than with realmuto. Yeah, Realmuto’s better than just Alfaro, but it wasn’t a one for one trade. Barring a major injury for either player, the fact that they gave up Sixto is a huge overpay. And I’ll take it for once lol

  3. Let's assume its true, that the Marlins did not follow protocol. We lost nearly half our roster for two weeks because of it. That alone is punishment enough.

  4. I live in PA.... fuck the Phillies.... I hate them Side note: my FB feed is full of Phillies fans posting Sixto articles and bitching they already lost the JT trade because he has not been signed to an extension yet

  5. I still think that the in game decisions- while the most visible- are not the only aspects of a manager that should be considered. Some of the off the field stuff matters and clearly Donnie has been good at motivating the team before games.

  6. 47.1% now on fangraphs. For the first time all season that puts the Marlins in the top 8 in the NL. With 8 playoff teams, that is getting real exciting.

  7. Local sports fans believe they can manage better than professional coach? I'm shocked! But seriously y'all, fans thinking the manager sucks is the oldest meme in human history; every fan base, even in New England, says the same, tired baloney. As recently as yesterday we had folks saying Mattingly was off his rocker for bunting, but upon further review, we saw it was a very defendable decision. And where's his praise today for clever bullpen management in the shutout? Or his aggressive use of defensive replacements and pinch runners late in the game? I think a lot of managers wouldn'

  8. By the way how good does that Mattingly extension look now? Most expected a managerial change by now and no one would have complained if it happened but Donnie is showing he was worth keeping. It does help change the silly idea that the manager who leads the team during the tanking years shouldn't or can't be the same guy when they wanna transition to contention.

  9. SIXTO CLOCK is another success! We win a series IN Atlanta! Weehaw! AND A COMBINED SHUTOUT! Homers from Joyce, Alfaro, and COOPAHHHH! Brian Anderson reached base all five times tonight. Hoyt was a bit wobbly but Bleier got him out of it. Nick Jan Michael Vinxent was sexy in the 8th. Stanek returned and pitched a scoreless night. Let's sweep these fucks tomorrow.

  12. Hahaha. That’s why I just had to stop a few years ago reading a lot of fans discussions and even Sports opinion writers. I get annoyed sometimes when I read stuff written by people who don’t really have any idea what they are talking about. Which is like ~95% of them. Now a days I try just to stick to just Marlins news or rumors from guys like Craig Mish, Joe Frisaro, Barry Jackson, the classics. 😂

  13. "But we can't talk about that without mentioning the trades prior to and after that, including Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna, and JT Realmuto. They were just two pitchers away before entering a rebuild under new ownership."

  14. It’s funny how if, for example, the Marlins will win the NL East this year most likely some of the sports media and of course fans of other teams will be using words like “‘Asterisk’, ‘Only because of the Shortened Season.’” And if it was the Braves they would be like “Continued NL East Dominance” or the Phillies they will be like “JT and Bryce led the way to glory”. 😂

  15. And we had to have Yamamoto start three games! That's more than enough punishment there!

  16. In other words: No. The answer to the question, "Did they violate the protocols?" is unequivocally no. The issue is that the protocols did not (at least initially) go far enough, and they also created a (now very evaporated) false sense of security.

  19. People will start watching as the team trends upward. If they make the postseason and continues to have success into next season, it’ll start the process up. With that said, to get to the level of viewership that you see with established teams that have been around for 50+ years, it’s gonna take a few generations of fans instilling that fandom in their kids and those kids passing it to their kids. That’s the only way you get those diehard fans like the cubs/Yankees/Mets/Red Sox/etc that will fill the stadium no matter how bad the teams doing.

  20. Sports news on the radio this morning: "Congrats on the Heat advancing to the conference finals and Colin Kaepernick has been added as a playable character in Madden after a recent update... that's all for sports" So a video game content update is more important to report than the Marlins defeating the first place Braves for the second day in a row behind their ace rookie of the year candidate pitcher?

  24. Trending upwards but not there yet. Beating other teams with more dominance will start to help though. For example I saw plenty of Braves fans praising Sixto after last night's game. Real fans and media will start to notice and eventually that will allow casual fans and the community to notice as well.

  25. I'd imagine some things get added in but most don't because I feel like it's an issue of how games were recorded in the past. The digital recordings of full games in recent years is what allows me to search up AJ Ellis' at-bat vs Clayton Kershaw when Kershaw throws a fastball with a 2-1 count in the 4th inning of a game at Dodger Stadium on a Tuesday night in 2018 (Yes you can search for that!). You just can't do the same with a Ryan Bowen vs Andres Galarraga at-bat at Joe Robbie Stadium in 1994.

  27. In some ways actually yes that's true. The long reliever/mop up guy is needed once in a while. If Aguilar and Cooper are able to handle first base we don't exactly "need" a struggling Lewin.

  28. Manager of the Year is often based on the most overachieving team which usually has very little to do with in game decisions.

  33. This is what I'm getting at - other teams have decades long generations of fans that tune in regardless of how the team is doing, we don't for various reasons, like it or not. That's only going to change with time, not because there's a better show on before the game. Not saying it's a bad idea, just that's not going to suddenly flip some switch and have everyone tuning in. Yeah, I too would be interested to see the numbers. The Heat don't have a history of abusing the fanbase to overcome, and more often than not are competitive and/or playoff bound. Inte

  39. And tonight's win takes the Marlins to a 0 run differential, second best in the division. That is wild when you consider the context of the season, how the Marlins have basically been throwing flotsam from the waiver wire onto the mound for a month (up until, what, a week and a half ago?). If they go deep into the playoffs, there better be a dang Disney movie about this season.

  40. Waiting 3 innings gives every spot in the lineup at least one more chance to bat. Seems like a fair trade off if they really wanna push this.
    1 point
  41. I've said this many times but at the very least wait until like the 13th inning or so if they plan to do this in the future. The point is to avoid extra long games so after 3 extra innings then maybe that can be a concern but there's no need for this in the 10th-12th innings.

  42. I posted the reply first, I then included it in the opening post because the cheap national Fox RSN programming is why we only attract 19,000 viewers. This season we are serious playoff contenders yet still struggle to attract eyeballs because we have no lead-in programming. I have a list of programming that would beat the drivel that airs now to lead us in: 1. Sports Betting Show 2. Local Sports Talk Show Simulcast (Hochmann & Crowder) 3. Quick 30 Minute Highlights Show like FSN Final Score of years past 4. A show similar to Detail on ESPN+ that has a legendary pl

  45. Maybe it is giving too much credit to Mattingly, but the Braves had the 6-7-8 part of the lineup coming up and the shadows did play a role. With that in mind, going for 1 in the top half is completely defend able.
