  1. Something different about this new ownership and Loria/Hill. We now acquire bullpen pitchers who throw strikes rather than getting guys just because they throw hard. That’s something that I like.

  2. Last year the Marlins had 2 of the top 10 starters in whip % in Pablo and Elieser. I would consider them to be the 3rd and 4th best starters on the big league roster right now. Our rotation is loaded and is only going to get better with Edward Cabrera and Max Meyer. The biggest reason why all the projection systems expect the Marlins to lose 90+ is that they underestimate the pitching. We're gonna surprise a lot of people.

  3. One more point: I wanted Kintzler back because this bullpen didn't need key subtractions and to a lesser extent Boxberger for the same reason... but if the additions/replacements are Floro and Curtiss then ultimately we likely did upgrade since the new guys are younger and more sustainable in 2021. So basically, the point we've been trying to make to certain people here, gotta wait until the offseason fully plays out to see how the finished product looks, and even then, the finished product is never truly finished. But I'm very happy with how this offseason bullpen revamping ended up

  10. This is a very Rays trade, getting the most out of a guy for one season and then trading him while his value is high but I don't think this is a bad gamble from the Marlins... not every guy that the Rays trade high on becomes a complete bust, the Marlins must think this guy is good enough to keep it going and contribute in Miami. I like the move, good gamble.

  11. After what seemed like baby steps to revamping this bullpen at the beginning of the offseason all of a sudden it's an intensely reloaded bullpen, almost overloaded, with big but good decisions still to be made. Excellent work Kim!

  12. Well. Since the off-season is officially over, this thread is coming to a close. Good day, friends.

  16. I think it's a classic case of the fans overvaluing a likeable player (and by all accounts, good guy). I could see him getting claimed, but I doubt he gets traded. I mean, he got consistent playing time in 2019 and was replacement level. 😞

  18. This is ancient history now, but I still can clearly remember before the 2004, the expectations and general feeling around the Marlins going into that season was very good, seeing as most of the roster was returning, including Beckett, Willis, Penny, Pavano, AJ Burnett was healthy again and of course Cabrera, Pierre, Castillo, Lowell, and even us Marlins fans were pretty excited about Hee Seop Choi. 😂 Just that whole general feeling of coming off the WS win and going into the ‘04 season, was a pretty fun time as a Marlins fan! But yes, I agree, this upcoming season has a diffe

  19. Say the Marlins are in 3rd place in mid-July, you think the right move is replacing all three of Marte, Duvall, and Dickerson with Bleday, Harrison, and Sanchez at that point?

  23. The four greatest words towards the beginning of every year. It's today. Pitchers and catchers are reporting. First workouts tomorrow. Position players arrive on Monday. The season starts soon. Let some excitement build. This team is going to continue to fly under the radar and that's exactly how we like it.

  24. I mean, remember we signed Stanton to a mega deal too...... ---- I'm interested to see how it's structured, and if it's done similarly to Stanton's or if it's more evenly spread? I also just remembered they have Machado and his $300M deal...... 2021: Machado - $32M Myers - 22.5M Hosmer - 21M Darvish - 19M (it's 22, but Cubs are paying 3M of that) ----- 94.5M in just those 5 guys before this Tatis deal........ I'd have to imagine the Tatis one is backloaded to help them out with some of these

  25. Stubbornness is the real explanation. For better or worse, I just get the feeling that they really love the look they landed on. I'm ok with that to a degree, because I think too many teams don't commit to their uniform choices and make too many changes too often, so I appreciate some conviction. But as long as the Marlins are listening to feedback on their uniforms and are open to well thought out changes in the future then I'm ok with that. With that said, yes a blue regular season alternate is long overdue.

  37. uffff, Idk man, a little too early for Bleday in my opinion. He's only had one real minor league season. I think Harrison is gonna figure it out long term, and Sanchez hit for a decent average in the minors so eventually he'll figure it out too. Believe it or not I think the surprise call up next season that comes up and produces will be Encarnacion. I think he's gonna be what Ozuna was for us when he was here (High strikeouts, good slugging). I've seen that dude go oppo on curveballs multiple times...that's hard lol edit: Unless they're somehow in first place in the division/wild ca

  38. Seems like the team is pretty much set now. Will be interesting to see how they divy out ABs between Cooper/Aguilar/Dickerson/Duvall but a good problem to have This team is a Contreras move away from being stacked... but thats a pipe dream. Still would prefer to see a veteran SP at the end of the rotation but I'm okay with rolling with the young guys and a deep bullpen

  39. Looking at the bullpen again, I'm pretty sure Pop and Campbell are now way less likely to make the team. They're not "penciled in" like you can do with Rule 5 guys in years where you don't expect to compete so you can hide a rule 5 guy in your pen as an experiment. If anything these two only make the roster if someone gets injured. So either they'll be considered injured soon or it wouldn't surprise me if either is returned to their original club already.

  41. It'll be a good mix of both. It should be time for the prospects to be ready after three or four months of minor league ball and then, boom. Bring em up.

  43. I'm glad they went with Duvall rather than Benintendi and avoided trading prospects. Not much difference between them and I doubt Duvall stays longer than a year anyway. Too many outfielders battling for spots in the system.
