  1. The other night, for example, after a tough team loss, Jazz decided to retweet his own personal highlights right after the game. It’s one thing to be flashy which he is, but he strikes me as a me first kind of player. I would imagine it has to annoy some people, especially since he’s just a rookie who really hasn’t done anything yet in the grand scheme of things. Can you imagine if he gets to Hanley’s level of superstardom? It’s easy to forget now, but Hanley was one of the best players in baseball at one point before all the antics. I’m not into the Tony La Russa style of baseball where you’re disrespecting the game because you hit a HR when you’re up 15, but, at the same time, don’t talk about yourself all the time even right after team losses. It’s a bad look. Pretend to care even if you don’t, and at least wait until the next morning or something. Jazz seems like he wants all of the attention starting with his hair. At least do something worthy of that attention first. We complain about Acuña all the time, but at least he’s earned the right to showoff being a top 5 player in baseball. Jazz isn’t that guy yet, just a rookie.

  2. Next time they get an interview with Jeter or Ng, I'd love for them to be asked why the club didn't call up Jesus Sanchez. To just leave him in AAA when he was blazing hot and the MLB club was ice cold with a need in the OF, that needs an answer. It is just one of many bad decisions, but I want to hear their excuse. Instead we get interviews where they have their asses kissed and are lobbed softballs.

  3. Until the front office cares, I see no reason any of us should. It’s total bullshit. Some people blame Sherman, some blame Ng, some blame Jeter, some blame Don. I blame all of them for different things. The front office ignored the team’s needs in the off-season and then they’ve ignored the team’s needs in-season. Inexcusable and if it is all related to money, we are fucked again as fans. Don is a terrible manager. He makes some of the dumbest decisions possible with the lineup and with his bullpen management. If he had a good front office, he may get away with more mistakes but he doesn’t have that. I’ll keep watching but I’m not sure those in charge are watching. If they are, they just don’t give a shit I guess.

  4. Rays are also the exception to the rule. Additionally, do any of us really have the patience to continue to sit around and wait for the team to be competitive through more drafting and more trades, etc.? Honestly? This has been the 5,356th rebuild by now - each time with the promise of "just give it another 3-5 years to really be competitive again". It's a cop-out. You can build from within AND spend at the same time. it's what most successful clubs do, and we as fans, continually give free passes to the owners to not spend because we believe in "the process" and promise of prospects panning out. Fact is this team has AWFUL bats in our every day lineup and also in the minors and it was like that before the season began. Money should have been spent here to address this. Additionally, you simply DON'T KNOW how prospects will pan out and circumstances are sometimes simply out of a team's control (see: Jose Fernandez) so continually refusing to spend because of "Well be good in x years so blah blah blah we're not spending now blah blah blah" is just a cheap cop out as a LOT can change in that many years. If this group was being honest all along with the intention of really spending when necessary then they also would have acted ELATED that some of their fruits blossomed much sooner than expected last season but it feels like they were more irked that it happened this soon because that didn't match up with whatever the timeline was for project wolverine or whatever stupid name it had, and people were expecting them spend a little bit to push them to the next level. Most owners don't buy baseball teams to make a living, it's really a hobby for them or for bragging rights, etc.. The Marlins HAVE their stadium which was always the biggest gripe. But still "wait another x number of years". I understand that yes, there are lulls between competitiveness but they WERE competitive last year and this group let that die on the vine so to speak by doing NOTHING about the inconsistent offense.

  5. Rowson is pretty much the only correct choice. He's considered a manager in waiting by everyone, they kinda have to go with him.

  7. Huh? The rebuild was started years ago. She's not starting from scratch.

  8. Bottom line is, I think we're all just looking for SOMETHING......ANYTHING....to indicate that they remotely care how poorly the team is doing.

  9. What Jeter needs to do is convinces Sherman to open his wallet and gives Ng what she needs.

  10. Jazz should retweet this video since he says he looked up to Jeter so much and wants to learn from him. Athletes normally don't publicly promote their personal accomplishments right after a team loss. Nobody cares, you lost.

  11. In all seriousness. Yeah. 15 blown saves s u c k s. Terribly. Could probably cut that down to a third of that total if our offense could actually produce, though. Sure, we're IN every game, that's all fine and dandy, but when we're down by two or three runs, it still feels impossible, and it shouldn't. We should not have to throw guys in a high leverage situation almost every single night. It's annoying that the FO said, "yeah, we're going to be in a lot of low scoring games, so let's mainly improve the bullpen!" (It is improved, despite the blown saves) Instead of conceding that we won't score a lot, why not, you know, just try and improve the offense?? Duvall is basically Stanton lite. Dickerson ... admittedly, I'm going to give him a pass since the stuff came out with his father. That's rough for anyone to go through. Really hoping the naming rights and TV deal will spur some offseason spending. Lots of good free agents to go after. Mostly shortstops ... And yes. Fire Don.

  12. Yeah right, that would mean she is actually paying attention to this team's needs.

  13. So for those of you in last nights game thread ya'll were treated to the image of the dead mouse I found at the bottom of a can of green beans last night. I figured since this is a highly irregular scenario I'd keep you abreast of what happens going forward. I contacted Kroger using the phone number on the can itself and after describing what I found I was then connected to a guy who sounded about 80 years old named Phillip who literally had a set of scripted mouse questions he had to ask to complete the case. Among the questions asked were: 1. What is the color of its fur? 2. How long is the mouse? 3. What shape is the mouse? * this was my favorite question because how do you accurately describe what shape a mouse is other than mouse-shaped? I said it's kinda of like a long oval after saying that it's mouse-shaped was not an approved answer lol I was also asked to take photos of the can, upc code, expiry date, and a clear as possible picture of the mouse with something to measure it so I ended up using some toothpicks to move some of the beans out of the way and put a tape measure outside the container. I will keep ya'll posted from here lol

  20. Jazz is not a diva. A diva is all talk, no effort. Hanley was a diva who would jog after balls in the field and wouldn't run hard on balls hit in play. Acuna is more of a diva. Jazz is just a high energy player who plays the game with a lot of passion and energy. Always see him playing hard. You guys think that Jose was a diva? Just because he goes through some struggles, does not mean that he is not playing the game the right way.

  21. We need to define what true racism is in this country or the simplest offenses will be accepted as hate and become a systematic ideology by association to build or destroy another race. I find it unbelievably hard to accept that Brenly didn’t criticize any white players lol. I know Castro had character issues as a cubbie and Soto had maybe three decent years there. Did they play, did they fly on the same plane, was any of their rights taken away? Nah, they had it much worse, criticizing.

  23. Jazz demoted to 6th. I like it. Hopefully the message is well received by Jazz. Alfaro with the day off, why??? Not a day night thing and Alfaro is well rested from his IL stint. Also, rested on Sunday and Monday without games. #FuckDonnie

  25. I said something similar at the other forum - Don's weird/bizarre/stupid moves can be overlooked if the team is winning/doing well, but his moves now are directly causing losses. Others have mentioned the social media stuff - but on the field, it seems like he's trying to be too fancy/cool and it's resulting in errors It's weird because last year even down by 2-3 runs, you felt like they could come back and win....complete opposite this year. Yeah, I really don't understand it. Maybe he's raising hell behind the scenes, but you think we would've heard something about that by now. I don't want to be that guy, and I know it's not necessarily great to be publicly critical of your team/employees, but could some of the lack of anything have to do with Ng herself, and ownership being hesitant to be critical of her work given today's climate? i.e. afraid of backlash for being critical of the 1st woman GM's work? I remember interviews in the past since taking over of him expecting the team to win - even when the roster had been torn down.....and now suddenly complete radio silence?

  26. Jokes aside, I do believe that Jeter wants to win, interviews like the one above show me the mindset he has... so this is why I wish we could figure out what in the blue hell is going on. There is no way he's happy right now with this embarrassment of late. It's shocking that the guy in that interview is letting all of this happen under his watch.

  31. I agree with this but the thing that gets me is... there's no way they really don't care right? There has to be an explanation to their lack of action right? I'm so curious to what they would say to a close friend or family member as to why they haven't done more. I can't believe these people really bought this team to purposely do nothing, it makes no sense. I'm just trying to wrap my head around their extreme lack of urgency.

  33. Don winning MOTY was one of the worst things that could have happened. The Marlins made playoffs and finished over .500 in spite of Don's bullshit. Now if you fire him, it's bad PR for firing last year's MOTY... Then again, didn't we fire Girardi after he won MOTY? Fuck it, fire Don!!!!

  34. Our revamped bullpen was on display. You could argue that Don overworked them all season. Bender wasted in the 6th for a 2 pitch, 1 out appearance... needed him in the 8th. That is on Don. This team is lifeless and lacks direction and focus. Blase' Don. FIRE DON MATTINGLY!!!! seriously. If you can't fire the players or won't bring up reinforcements, then something has to give... It's time to bring in fresh blood and send a message to these players that they need to play better ball.

  36. Marlins got Jazz and Pop from the Diamondbacks to become the new team with the most "musical" sounding names in MLB. Now they just have to sign this guy to a AAA contract: To complete the Jazz, Pop and Rock trio. They could also make a trade with the Tigers and get this guy: since his name covers "Funk" and "House" music at the same time.

  40. If a woman can get away with DV towards a professional sports player, just imagine what they can do to an average male citizen. If men reported DV and sexual harassment on the same grounds as women, in this generation, I pretty much bet the numbers would be higher for men than women. Bruised arms on a woman can apply from self-defense of the man she is abusing. The struggle of holding someone from their attacker’s weight and force will bruise the aggressor every time. Doesn’t matter how small she is either.

  41. He probably should because it would look just as stupid, but again that's on how I think a du rag looks as part of a uniform and nothing to do with skin color.
    1 point
  42. Not being a gentleman can be an insult that has nothing to do with race. I think Stroman looks like an idiot wearing that as part of his uniform but that has nothing to do with his skin color. Stroman wants it to be taken as racist so he's making it racist but there's zero evidence that Brenly meant it due to race even if it was an insult.
    1 point
  43. People should be allowed to form their opinion about any race so as long as they don’t discriminate anyone’s well-being. The hypocrisy in it all is that the so called victim (Stroman) is actually the victimizer by stirring the race pot narrative into something it’s not. If we had laws that targeted against loose accusations of racism, then we would know what true racism really is. You’d think people who truly care about racism wouldn’t support this wideness of “everything is racists” jargon, because it only discriminates those who are actual victims of true hate.

  44. Welcome to 2021. Where your intentions are not yours to have but rather dictated and established by a population of people (read children) that believe "racism" is destroying our society, when in reality it's the unfounded mob belief that our society is destroyed in the first place that is truly dividing and destroying it. The division itself is what's dividing the country...how is that not obvious? My source? I'm a "POC" minority myself that owns my own business, feeds over 50 families directly (not counting the hundreds I feed indirectly through the course of my daily work) and doesn't give 3 flying fucks what anyone in this world thinks or says. I go about my daily life like anyone else cause I was taught that way by my refugee mother. I was never taught to believe myself to be a "victim" of anyone or anything. And I've lived outside of South Florida for fucking years so it's not cause I live around a bunch of minorities. To call what Brendly did racist and to call a multi-millionaire athlete with a shoe company a "victim" is a fucking slap in the face to the black people who came before him that faced REAL fucking racism. Cause in my book, racism is segregation, telling your daughter she can't marry someone who isn't part of your race, telling me to go back to my country even though I was born here (which has happened to me so many times in my life that I literally wouldn't care to count)....what Brenly did is just a dumb joke that someone with their balls set firmly on their body wouldn't allow themselves to be affected by because they'd understand that they're 100% above someone else's words/opinions. Huge difference between something "racial" and something "racist". Everyone needs to grow the fuck up and worry about themselves. Once they do, they'll realize it's their own bullshit mentality that kept them back, not anyone or anything else.

  45. This part has to be a joke, right?
    1 point
  46. First, it's not racist. More of an age thing. Players back then dressed and acted differently than players do today. Society in general acts much different. If he would have used Bib Gibson as an example instead of Tom Seaver, would it still be racist? Second, there are thugs in all races and they come in all colors. Why does using the word thug automatically mean that it's referring to a black person? What makes the word racist? The fact that someone used the word thug, or the fact a person heard the word and automatically associated it with a black person? Not taking a shot at you SITA, I know you were using it as an example. Just trying to get a point across.
