  1. Baseball America and MLB Pipeline put him back in their top 100 this last week and the FO said, "Oh shit, this guy is in our system?!"

  2. I couldn't disagree more and I'm saying that even knowing how bad it's been so far. The hire was applauded throughout baseball not just because she was a woman but because she was a woman who worked her ass off to deserve this opportunity and because she had shown that she was ready for this chance. And I say this now because that's what makes this all so frustrating. She was NOT hired as a publicity stunt and that's why she SHOULD be doing better than she is. Kim Ng absolutely has to realize the shit she's put out there.

  3. It's inexplicable them being shorthanded almost every single game. I get there have been injuries. I get you may not want to put a guy on the IL if you don't have to. I get the service time implications for bringing guys up.. I get it a short bench could happen maybe a handful of games throughout the entire 162-game season. You cannot continually game after game be shorthanded, and have to pinch hit a RELIEF PITCHER to BUNT in late innings.....it's absolutely absurd, and I don't understand why they do nothing about it?

  5. This makes it sound like she was mowing lawns for the last decade. She was the Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball!

  6. The same things just keep happening. No matter who is at fault, it’s the same dumb thing over and over. Though I do put a lot of the blame on Ng for the roster construction. If she isn’t in charge of even that, what exactly is she in charge of? She came with a wealth of experience so I don’t believe she should be considered infallible. For the record, I was a huge fan of her being hired (check my old posts) and I think it is ignorant to call it a publicity stunt. The worst part is you can even see it coming each time. Prior to them leaving on the road trip, Mish mentioned they need to make sure they make necessary roster moves and of course that once again didn’t happen. A 2 man bench for the billionth time this season. Only team in MLB that can’t figure out roster construction. Don is a bad manager so if you tie his hands behind his back, he’ll become even worse. Give him a 2 man bench and he’ll save it for extra innings.

  7. Wait, it was a 2 man bench again??? We knew yesterday that Devers was hurt and they didn't bother adding Marrero for today's game? And they have Dickerson active when he's not able to play? This is absolute bullshit. I can see this happening once or twice a season in a rare emergency situation but this is absolute horseshit roster management. I feel like the Marlins have played more games with a short bench than with a full bench. Obviously that's an exaggeration but the point is that it's not the rarity that it should be. They're allowing this team to go to battle with less weapons than the opposition countless times already and it's unacceptable.

  10. Can you delete players from the game entirely? If so you should delete Jesus Sanchez because he will never be called up.

  13. I honestly feel that the Marlins know that they could be closer to contending but that the timeframe for winning isn’t lining up with what they envisioned for the financial side and they are intentionally trying to keep the team just out of contention. It’s the only thing that makes since.

  15. Nice to see who’s stupid enough to think a sports opinion is the same as a political opinion or gender role opinion. Your college professor would be proud. Do you want me to leave you an application link you can apply for my company? I know times are very hard for the college “educated” right now.

  16. Don has options now. Does he double switch Sierra for Sanchez in LF in the 3rd inning or will Sierra come in for Jazz to play 2B?

  17. As long as he doesn’t take ABs from Isan I’m fine with this move

  18. Can't wait to see him get double switched out in the 3rd inning so that Magneuris Sierra can come into the game!

  19. Still in baseball, in fairness, but you're right, she was most likely not doing these things. That said, we do need to go back to the collaborative effort mentioned previously. It is truly baffling that multiple people in power are thinking that this is fine to constantly play short-handed.

  20. Why aren't other teams struggling with it though? Injuries are happening all over MLB but only the fish consistently choose to play shorthanded. As for the relaxed protocol, they were doing this same shit before reaching the 75% threshold so it isn't that.

  21. Sure it’s Dons fault. But maybe management also reminded him to not use up his shhort resources because it could make them look even worse. Either way it’s all bull crap. I’ve never seen anything like it.

  22. To be fair, he absolutely did not have to have a relief pitcher in for that at bat. He chose to manage for later instead of manage for now, as he so so so so often does, and as it so so so so often does, it didn't work out because later never came.

  25. Why not ? just showing the loyalty to the people that make you succeed, like the Astros showing the loyalty to Verlander and the Nationals showing the loyalty to Scherzer.

  27. And I wanna go back to the recent discussion about the Marlins having a collaborative front office because this is where it frustrates me the most. If you told me this was a one person job then we could throw the blame on one person and just take it as one fool who is in over their heads. But a collaborative front office is crushing me even more because this tells me there's not one but like 6 or 7 adults with multiple levels of baseball experience who are ok with this bullshit. I'm dumbfounded that Kim Ng, Derek Jeter, Gary Denbo, Dan Greenlee, Adrian Lorenzo, and Bruce Sherman are all accepting of multiple games with a short bench. And I'll throw in Mattingly too because he has to have enough say that if he wanted to make a big stink about this I'm sure he can. If it was just Ng or Jeter we could point to their inexperience but the other people are there to say "hey, we can't continue to give Donnie a short bench" yet it keeps happening. Unacceptable. That's the bottom line until they prove otherwise, unacceptable.

  28. That is bullshit from Don to cover Ng's ass. I've been following the team closely, dare I say religiously, since late 2003, and I can never remember so many games when the team has played with a 2 man bench. It may not be a stretch to say the team has played more short bench games in the first 2 and a half months of this season than they ever did between 2003 and 2020. If you know what you're doing this isn't as "complicated" as he's saying.

  32. 1) who tf do you only have 3 dudes on the bench when you have 2 guys that are considered MLB ready in AAA? 2) why hasn’t Bender’s role increased? What else does he need to do?

  33. I don't know Jeter regrets about the GM change or not now, but I rather they retain Hill.

  34. Tommy Hutton: “I don’t like the fact that Don Mattingly goes into a game with just 3 guys on his bench.” Thanks again, Kim. And all 3 guys were left-handed too, couldn’t even call up a warm body who hits right-handed. Joke. Make this better and sign Starling tonight.

  37. meanwhile Jesus is in AAA... man, Marte 2nd, Aggy 3rd, Jazz 4th, Jesus 5th, Alfaro 6th, Duvall 7th would be a decent line-up

  40. I'd hate to be a Debbie downer here, but something doesn't add up. Marte's career OPS is .798 and his career slugging is .454. His best year was in 2019 when he had a .845 OPS and a .503 slugging. Those aren't numbers for the kind of money that everyone is throwing around on here. Also, this year MLB messed with the baseball and hitting is down everywhere. From HR to Batting Averages , and everything in between. So, at 32 with many others struggling, Marte is going to have a career year with 1.010 OPS and a .568 slugging? And, in a pitchers park to boot? Either he's going to regress from God status to a very good player again, which means he's not worth that contract, or worse. I mean he was suspended in 2017 for steriods already. Not saying that's the case, but as much as I like Marte, my spider senses are telling me to sell to the highest bidder. It's actually the smart play anyway considering his age. Hopefully I'm wrong, and we extend him, and he ages like a fine wine, and he leads us to a World Series. Thing is, I stopped believing in fairy tales a long time ago.

  41. IF we're still valuing WAR free agent value around 8 mil per? At his best he's a 4 war player and though injuries are always a concern this isn't a Stanton body that you worry will break down every time he runs. Dude is in freakish shape. Even if it's a tick higher, say 4/75, I think you'd still get good value for the next 2-3 years.

  42. I’m sticking with this. Ask him how much he wants for the next 3 years and keep him. Even though at the rate he’s playing this year, some team might pay him for 5. He’s been so good lol.

  43. I'm say it straight away, Ng just have no choice but do her best to extend Marte. Marte is Marte and not any other player, Ng should know his value to the team and Miami. #PayMarte

  46. He's proven - I'm alright with a 5yr, knowing that yrs 4-5 are likely bench, trade, or release years. As long as it's a reasonable 5yr deal - just don't be reckless. He's valuable now as a player, but his mentality & character are valuable to our prospects over the next few years.
