  1. I have high hopes for Brinson. 33rd time is the charm.

  2. Hot take: Starling Marte is really, really good but he's not an irreplaceable super star. That being said, he is worth more than what he's asking and the Marlins have absolutely no one who can replace him. So is Starling Marte a superstar in baseball, in general? No. Should the Marlins have approached extension talks as if he were a superstar because of the position they find themselves in due to various reasons? Yes.

  3. They have through the offseason for me. It's slimming already, but if reasonable moves/a real attempt at improvement aren't/isn't made, I think I may have a hard time fully supporting the team anymore. Not because I don't want to, but it's hard for them to ask me to put effort in when they won't. And that's coming from one of the true 16 fans. I've been supportive through the rebuild, but things are looking like more of the same cheapness plus some increased draft spending. Aka - the Rays minus the success. I know the argument of drafting success translates to the ML product over time, but again, it's hard to putt much effort into supporting them if they continue the ultra cheap ways.

  7. I don't know about the "and person" part. Aguilar is just a clown is all. Nothing bad has ever been printed or said that Coop is a bad teammate. Not everyone ballplayer wants a dude who is clowning all the time. That said, I do love his antics - just not going to count that as part of a reason to keep him over Cooper

  8. In his deal- a big bonus if there was a bottom line profit. Well, that works out well if no big contracts are given and all the money from the new tv deal and naming rights are included. It's called motivation. There is no bonus for winning, just profits. If we win, well, just a nice add on. https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2018/01/08/derek-jeter-will-get-big-bonuses-if-the-marlins-turn-a-profit/

  9. Eh, I don't see him doing that. But I also think even though Sherman is paying for it, that Jeter says "we need x amount" and Sherman signs the check. Sherman seems more hands off so I don't know if he's saying "here's your limit", good luck. I'd absolutely take a decade of 85 wins/year compared to what we've had. Do I want a WS? Yes. But just some competitive/winning baseball would be nice to watch for a change. That's what made last year so much fun - we actually got to watch a team that was in it.

  10. Agree with this - I don't need them to roll out a Yankees or Dodgers payroll every year. I just want them to act like they care. Attempt to get some bench depth when you have issues - not 2 months after when you're out of it and freefalling. Attempt to get a SP so there isn't a bullpen day every other day.......better yet, sign a vet starter in the offseason like everyone here said (or at least I did) to eat innings with the inevitable injuries to the pitching staff. Don't go into the season with glaring holes, and just patch it with "we didn't expect to score runs" That said, I don't think they're as bad as their record is - various stats point to this, and I think they've had incredibly bad luck in multiple ways, but management's seeming to just throw their hands up and accept it is pissing me off.

  29. I'm saying that Jeter has to show a genuine and different effort before departing so that failures don't come down solely on him.

  30. Jeter is liked all around baseball and Donnie is respected. This regime improved the farm system tremendously and has, at the very least, set the ship on the right path as opposed to the dumpster fire that was the Loria regime. 2021 has been a disaster but this regime isn't the joke inside baseball that Loria was. Bad managing and questionable roster construction isn't gonna make the organization a joke to players. To us die hard fans sure but I highly doubt MLB players are bothered by this.

  31. It's also a joke that Mattingly was kept on and extended... The ownership coulda stepped in and told Don to stop using pitchers as PHers, but they seem OK with it as well.... A team trying to contend doesn't do that, again it tells me the PTB don't care

  32. That's not even why. Its so they know how much money they will have available for those 2 guys out of their allotted amount + 10%. It's why you only see guys who sign under slot announced at this point tbh.

  33. I don't think so, but was curious what others thought. Though I don't think he stays more than another 5 years or so, if the situation here remains the same.

  34. I don't see Marte as a superstar either but his asking price wasn't superstar level either. If rumors were true his asking price to stay in Miami seemed VERY reasonable to the point I dare say even Loria would've kept him signed and been thrilled to announce that.

  35. Despite my extreme frustration with him and his plan this year I do believe the idea of "Jeter is a winner and doesn't get into anything to lose." I can't see him bullshitting his way through this, he isn't a guy who likes to be associated with failure and he won't want people saying he couldn't make the Marlins a success. Even if he's a cheap ass he'll try and make this work and he'll try for a while. If you're asking about him being gone after 2022 I'd say no way, that seems way too soon. The negative stigma he would get leaving so soon would be God awful for him. To me this is about his reputation first and foremost way more than about his investment. Now if you're asking me about him being here really long term like ten to twenty years from now then maybe there's something to that question. So, no I don't think he'll be gone soon, I think he is in it for the long term but I do question how long "long term" really is. Financially, even if he's in it to recoup his investment, I'd say he sticks around longer to make some money and not that he dips the second his investment is recouped.

  36. Yep same. When they made no real effort to sign Realmuto this off-season, I knew what to expect. They didn't have to go crazy, but they absolutely should have at least TRIED and they didn't. Now this with Marte where they pretty much threw out an offer they knew he wouldn't take and then stopped trying. Why should I expect them to pay when it is time for other players to get contracts? They've shown me no reason to believe they will ever pay. How many times can we trade a guy for prospects before losing him to free agency? Endless cycle of prospects and endless cycle of no winning baseball if that's their plan.

  37. Honestly, I would say getting moved from being a World Series champion to a television announcer to then playing in Double-A is more of a demotion than a promotion.

  38. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/mlb-reportedly-hoping-to-return-to-nine-inning-doubleheaders-in-2022.html It's from Nightengale, so take it with a grain of salt, but he's reporting this.....which is along the lines of what we've talked about here - a hybrid of the two - regular play for a couple innings, then add the runner.

  40. i just realized she said he'll be signed but not necessarily by the Marlins - the "could take some time" might mean after he re-enters the draft later on. Clever play Ng, clever play.

  42. How about pushing back the mound to the outfield ?

  43. I feel like no matter what we do we are fucked because very few of the players we gutted our team for have panned out. So we are basically advocating going back to square one. Trade your known solid pitching for the prospect of a good bat and hope your up and comers are good. I thought Gleason was crazy for thinking we are still three years away but honestly that’s looking more likely. Not one prospect from the Yelich trade looks like they are going to ha e any value. Stanton was more a salery dump but Jose Devers is still far away and I barely know who Jorge Guzman is. Realmuto trade is iffy. We are already wanting a new catcher and I don’t have much faith that Sixto will amount to anything. The Ozuna trade is probably the best because Sandy and what we got for Gallen.
