  1. It's not based on the individual slot value, but the total slot pool of the first 10 rounds. So, if they can sign other guys below slot, they will be able to give Watson more. They can't go more than 5% over the slot pool without a penalty (they might lose the 1st rounder next year). They will certainly go as close to the 5% limit as possible. The main reason Watson will go down to the wire, is that they have to sign the other guys first. If they fail to sign a guy in the top 10 rounds, they lose that slot value from their pool, so they can't just decide to not sign the 2nd round guy and give all of that money to Watson. If they sign Watson first and the other guys won't sign with the remaining, then they will definitely go over the limit. Given the fact that we are gonna get a top 10 (maybe a top 5 next year), then that 1st rounder next year and the 17th pick as compensation might be more valuable than Watson.

  3. If they offered 3/40 with a 4th year team option, that’s really not a garbage offer to be fair. He’ll probably get more on the free agent market, but it’ll also probably be an overpay at that point. The problem is we can’t evaluate hitters so his replacement will probably suck.

  4. Ng screaming into the phone, but politely "ALRIGHT SO HOW DOES A DEAL SOUND WHERE YOU GIVE US THOSE THREE PROSPECTS AND YOU TAKE MARTE AND THIS PROSPECT andanthonybassandhisdeal SOUND GOOD?!" Other GM: "What did you say after Prospect?" Ng: "SOUND GOOD!?!?!?!" Other GM: "It sounded like --" Ng: "MARTE OR NO andbasswithcontract?" Other GM: "There it is aga-- ok fine we'll do it whatever." Ng: "Alright we've agreed, good." BREAKING: Marlins trade Luis Marte and Anthony Bass for top three prospects. Other GM: "What the fuhh ..."

  5. I feel like we have to be careful in not appreciating some of our average/above average position players. Has anyone seen how this organization is developing position players? Guys like Miguel Rojas, Brian Anderson, etc. aren’t irrelevant pieces, especially for a team that is not going to spend money. Carlos Correa is not replacing Miguel Rojas any time soon, and idk who people plan on playing 3B in the near future, but he’s probably not going to be better than a healthy Brian Anderson either.

  6. Agree with this - I don't need them to roll out a Yankees or Dodgers payroll every year. I just want them to act like they care. Attempt to get some bench depth when you have issues - not 2 months after when you're out of it and freefalling. Attempt to get a SP so there isn't a bullpen day every other day.......better yet, sign a vet starter in the offseason like everyone here said (or at least I did) to eat innings with the inevitable injuries to the pitching staff. Don't go into the season with glaring holes, and just patch it with "we didn't expect to score runs" That said, I don't think they're as bad as their record is - various stats point to this, and I think they've had incredibly bad luck in multiple ways, but management's seeming to just throw their hands up and accept it is pissing me off.

  8. I have high hopes for Brinson. 33rd time is the charm.

  10. Eh, I don't see him doing that. But I also think even though Sherman is paying for it, that Jeter says "we need x amount" and Sherman signs the check. Sherman seems more hands off so I don't know if he's saying "here's your limit", good luck. I'd absolutely take a decade of 85 wins/year compared to what we've had. Do I want a WS? Yes. But just some competitive/winning baseball would be nice to watch for a change. That's what made last year so much fun - we actually got to watch a team that was in it.

  29. Not that anyone would have expected anything different, but I'll save you the search: Bellatti is bad. Another pitch to contact guy. 29 years old. Not a prospect, not a guy that would be on a good team's roster. Mattingly will use him in the 8th inning when we're down 1 run to make sure we can't win.

  31. I don't know about the "and person" part. Aguilar is just a clown is all. Nothing bad has ever been printed or said that Coop is a bad teammate. Not everyone ballplayer wants a dude who is clowning all the time. That said, I do love his antics - just not going to count that as part of a reason to keep him over Cooper

  32. I’d trade cooper in heart beat over Aguilar. Aguilar better overall player and person

  33. Marte's bat was too hot, he needed a day off. Or they just are trying to make sure he doesn't get hurt since the games don't matter anyway, who knows.

  34. Makes it an easier decision to trade Marte and whoever else. This season crumbled pretty quickly. At least it wasn't a long drawn out death.

  37. Most of his injuries have been in the field. He would stay healthier if DH was an option. Plus he could play through certain injuries that hamper fielding more than hitting.

  38. Coop spends way too much time on the IL to be considered too big of a part of the future plans.
