  1. They need both cause sorry catching depth is pathetic in this organization and overall in baseball..I believe they can sign them both and honestly I could careless bout other picks as long as Mac and Watson are signed

  3. First game in AA could've went better. 0-4 with 4 strikeouts.

  4. I think that beyond the idiocy of not signing Marte they actually presented JT with an offer of 70 for 6 years and felt that was a solid opening offer lol. That's fucking atrocious.

  5. Marlins win. The road to winning 45 of the final 67 to take the division with 85 wins is on!

  11. Cheer up guys. It's still mathematically possible for the Marlins will win at least 100 games.

  12. At this point we are losing for better draft picks, so we are on a streak. You have to keep going.

  13. If you can get Mack at somewhere between slot value and 5% over it actually would be better than not signing him in terms of getting Watson. Failing to sign him would drop the total that they can spend without losing a 1st rounder by $120 K more than his value.

  14. my issue with the runner on 2nd rule is that is creates an enormous advantage for the home team. Away team doesn't know if they should play for one run or if they need to play for more. Home team knows at the beginning of their at bat if they need just one run to win, or if they need to put together a bigger inning. Inexcusable that Mattingly plays extra inning road games like a home manager, but that's his own lack of logical thinking and not a function of the rule itself. It should not exist, but if it absolutely HAS to, then it should definitely not come into play until at least the 12th inning.

  17. Trade him to Rays for Josh Lowe and some 40 grade prospects

  18. JT was probably worth 15-20 mil per season for 4-5 years. Thatโ€™s certainly not an overpay I donโ€™t think.

  23. @Fish Fry @SonOfJack @Michael I decided to move the discussion from the Marte extension thread over to the draft thread where it belongs. The Marlins total slot pool is $9,949,100. Remember this only applies to guys from the first 10 rounds (unless they sign a guy for more than $125 K after the 10th round- which they won't). So we are liking at the first 11 picks. They can go up to $10,446,555 without losing a future pick. They have already given out $1,150,800 to the picks from rounds 4-9. This only leaves Watson Joe Mack (CB-A, $2.31 M Slot) Cody Morissette (2nd Rd, $1.4 M Slot) Jordan McCants (3rd Rd, $678.6 K Slot) Hunter Perdue (10th Rd, $145 K Slot) If they sign everyone else to slot value, then they would be able to go all the way up to $4,762,155 for Watson. I have heard that he is looking for $5 M so we may be able to get him if we can squeeze the other guys to just below their slot values. Either way it will be close and will probably go down to the wire.

  24. Marte is the type of productive bat this team needs and he actually wants to be here. If they had given him what he wants he would have still been a discount for the Marlins. Is he irreplaceable? Not at all. But he's gonna leave and any replacement for him is gonna cost even more to bring in. This is like selling your perfectly good car and then realizing you still need a car and now you're gonna have to go pay more for a new car. Idiots.

  25. Hot take: Starling Marte is really, really good but he's not an irreplaceable super star. That being said, he is worth more than what he's asking and the Marlins have absolutely no one who can replace him. So is Starling Marte a superstar in baseball, in general? No. Should the Marlins have approached extension talks as if he were a superstar because of the position they find themselves in due to various reasons? Yes.

  27. They have through the offseason for me. It's slimming already, but if reasonable moves/a real attempt at improvement aren't/isn't made, I think I may have a hard time fully supporting the team anymore. Not because I don't want to, but it's hard for them to ask me to put effort in when they won't. And that's coming from one of the true 16 fans. I've been supportive through the rebuild, but things are looking like more of the same cheapness plus some increased draft spending. Aka - the Rays minus the success. I know the argument of drafting success translates to the ML product over time, but again, it's hard to putt much effort into supporting them if they continue the ultra cheap ways.

  31. The opening offer was 4/40 actually then later in the year they went 6/70. Which would have actually been the second highest offer JT would have gotten in FA this last offseason had it been offered then.
