He might want to start putting up some numbers at some advanced level.

As of right now he is a fringe guy at best.  Baseball is littered with guys that can play defense and run fast.

According to the story on mlb.com he's not even ranked in the top 30 prospects for the Rays so I don't know where they get he is a fringe top 20 player in Rays organization

  2. Remember when they first did this, they had Miggy Cabrera in the promo.  Unfortunately, his payoff was all he could eat also and it showed.  He went from about 190-200 to 240 in a week.

    Every one he’s acquired sucks.

I’ll be happy if they all way outperform their numbers Rays-style, but I have zero confidence they do.

it’s just pathetic that this is how they follow up a playoff season.

whether or not Kim’s offseason would’ve been different I don’t know, but just about anything would’ve been better than this.

Seems like he is getting guys with numbers so bad that outperforming them is more likely than not, then Bendix can claim success.

This fanfest was terrible. Besides players autograph there was no entertainment or activity. No on field access. No bullpen access. Kids couldn't do much.

Completely accurate assessment. And the autograph sessions had lines so long that it made it not worth waiting for. About the only thing better than previous years was all the concession stands were open with not long lines. So at least you didn't have to starve

  5. Going, but the timing is annoying.  Yea, they could not do it tomorrow as Skip out of town to accept award etc.  But a Friday night, rush hour traffic etc.  If my Gkids didn't love going so much, I would avoid it but they have been going for 6 years now, since the oldest was 3 and she loves baseball and the Marlins.  So, I leave my office early for them.  I expect that Marlins do expect a much lower turnout and could also skimp on activities.

Well at least they've been active as apparently many seem to believe that if they're not in any rumors then it means the Marlins front office is just sitting on their hands doing nothing.

Bendix must have been issued a phone that actually works.

ON another note, TB, while they did get screwed with day games, had the lowest attended playoff games in a century - 19k and 20k.

Doesn't bode well for their new park.

Had we had a playoff game, I guarantee it'd have been full.

Actually, bodes very well as the new park is only expected to seat 30k for baseball.  Very intimate park.

FINAL SERIES OF THE YEAR AND WE ARE IN A PLAYOFF SPOT CURRENTLY

Are you sure?  Just listening to Steve Phillips on MLB radio and here is what they said "At the top of the hour we will discuss the teams fighting for the playoff, Rangers, Astro, Mariners, Diamondbacks and Cubs"  Swear to god this is what they said, then a bit later "and guess what, the Padres still have a chance if the Marlins and Cubs lose all their remaining games and the Padres win all their remaining games".   Cross my heart-this is the crap.

Didn't he go unclaimed, though.  So no other team/competitor saw him as an upgrade either.

That said, several of us advocated getting more pitching at the deadline, and Kim didn't.....

I keep looking through this thread and didn't see where Clevinger's name came up.  I remember him from his Yankee days closing for Whitey Ford, but guys, as much as we need help, he died in 2019.  RIP Tex Clevenger.

Looked pretty good tonight. Great to see.

Definitely looked good, but being Mr Negative, worry about with a different ump could have had a few more walks.  Angel's  strike zone was incredibly large last night, for both sides.

Bottom line, it's a team game, so blame can't be put on any one particular guy, but he certainly hasn't helped things.  The same could've been said about Puk with the saves he blew too.

For me, I cannot assume he is not trying, but to keep repeating his narrative "these guys are paid to hit, they are good, they have 500 at bats" ignores that other closers are not losing more than 50% of their opportunities and are getting guys with "500 at bats" out.  That is what irks the most. He is paid to get guys out, even those with 500+ at bats. How about "I am disappointed, I want to help this team win and will keep working to do so".  It almost makes me think he is saying that our guys suck and the other guys do not.  He did not come here as a project, he came here as an experienced closer.

I doubt we people would accept Avi saying "I try, but these pitchers are really good and are paid to get hitters out".   But, on balance, we kept throwing Avi out there to not come through, so I guess we will keep trying to figure out where to spot Robertson.

Robertson has been awful but man that 10th inning runner thing can't help especially with a struggling reliever. I know he gave up more than that run but it would have been nicer if he would have started the inning clean. They were probably trying to avoid using him at all but maybe next time extra innings are possible, maybe Robertson would still be better used in the 9th instead of the 10th?

Yea, so we would not have to suffer extra innings.  Let's pitch Mr. "they are better than me" earlier so we can get to bed sooner.

  13. I guess he can suck, but stop with the BS coming out of his mouth. On the Randy hit "He's a good hitter, that's what they do.  It's the end of August, you know? It's almost September.  Those guys have seen a lot of pitches at this point; they've got 500 at-bats under their belt.  So it's tough to get them out..."

???"It's the end of August, it's almost September.." WTF-he can look at a calendar.  He is basically saying all highly paid relievers like him are getting lit up regularly.   I love the attitude-"not my fault, they are just better than me".

No I was perusing more national and MLB Network coverage and social media. Miami coverage has definitely been about the Marlins, that's for sure.

That is what I heard and read on a national front-the first discussion was "what's wrong with the Yankees" with a deep dive into all their issues.  Then afterwards, they discussed Arraez and gave a nod that the Marlins are a good team and the pickups at the deadline were sneakingly good.  But not much else.  As to the fans, we have our seats on the first base side, Sec 11, and it is always a visitors side.  Sat next to a nice group of Yankee fans, no one was obnoxious.  Overall, through the years, pretty consistent.  I  give obnoxious #1 to the Cub fans by a big margin then the Mets.
