  1. No W for Cashner but certainly helped win that game. Even Rea helped even the series. And these two wins were huge. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  2. Wrong again. Very new to site. And probably not for long. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  3. I'm sure I'm next to be banned anyway because I don't always agree. But this belief is just astonishing to me. He was not thrown in for cash. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  4. Correct that was his mindset. The no walks today kept him out of trouble. This philosophy stars from the SABR staff and then Hill passes it to Mattingly and Nieves. There's an algorithm showing Cash is more effective sacrificing Ks for less walks. This isn't true for everyone. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  5. A throw in? I know this is sarcasm, but nobody called him a throw in. Cashner was the reason we made the move for the playoff push. Then the deal expanded to have another starter/controllable asset. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  6. Not sure what Miami announcers were saying because I was on Cardinals feed, but even though Cashner didn't have his best stuff today, he was told to not go for strikeouts until needed and to pitch to contact. Kind of like how they handle Jose. He's going to be good for us. Such a shame about Rea. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app

How about Barraclough trade? Signing McGehee from Japan and then trading him for Castillo and Flores? Drafting Lomo and dealing him for Capps? Drafting and converting JT from infielder to catcher? Drafting Jose, Yelich, Stanton, Ozuna, Ramos, etc? The Prado/Phelps deal? The Dee trade? Ichiro signing? It's amazing how much hate there is for a front office who has a manager who won't spend money like most teams and yet has built a really nice team. Of course people will play the results of Rea's injury regarding the trade, but Miami saw some approach/pitch selection/pitch location flaws which they thought with simple tweaks could really help Rea. The 3 innings was too short of a sample size to know, but he clearly has/had stuff to be a cog in our rotation for next 5 years. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  8. Rea

For better or worse, Chen will be back for us soon. He will take back Rea's spot (probably 10 days from now depending on strength). Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  9. Even if you dislike the deal (and it seems a majority do), any clubhouse is going to get a boost when the players feel like management is going for it by dealing non active players for reinforcements. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  10. Just making the point that this wasn't only a rental like the Urbina deal, which involved Adrian Gonzalez who by himself was a better package than what we just traded. Rea could also help us this year. I'm not commenting on this deal anymore. I respect all of your opinions on the deal and fully get it. In my opinion, I like that we went for it. I think we overpaid as I have said from the beginning but that was the price in this market. I don't like the cash part either, but do not believe that was why we included Capps in the deal, by a long shot. Go Marlins. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  11. The cash part is on Loria not Hill. And do you forget how close we were at times to NOT winning the WS in 2003? It's all about trying when you have the window of opportunity. We just added 2/5 of our rotation - that's more than a closer. And we added a couple long term pieces this time. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  12. Guerrero is nothing but an intriguing arm, but there is some potential. The point of this deal was to help now. Naylor, Castillo and Capps can't help now. Paddack couldn't help now (and could be hurt). It's not easy projection prospects outside the top 100 or guys coming off TJ with a history of arm issues. It is easy to say we added 2/5 of our rotation in a playoff push. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  13. I agree that $ was a factor, but a small one. Not equal to getting Capps. And I disagree by how you think people in support of the deal are evaluating it. If it helps our team win now, Naylor and Castillo can be good players and it won't matter. Like the Urbina deal and countless other trade deadline deals around the league over the years. You don't add pitchers for free. Orioles and Rangers were in on Cashner, just to name a couple clubs. Plus, this is not an Urbina situation because Rea has long term potential and Guerrero is intriguing. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  14. I was actually right about Capps being included because I have known for weeks that every conversation with teams for a starting pitcher included Capps. Every one - once guys from the starting roster were excluded. And by the way, here's an actual prediction - Capps' career will be known more for potential and injuries than for success. His elbow will never be right. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
  15. He wasn't the final name added. He was the final name reported. It's shocking to me that people don't realize Naylor and Castillo were throw ins here. Every deal was always going to begin with Capps. Be objective. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
