Only the Marlins are smart enough to think of that hitting strategy. Broncobob thinks its our secret weapon. Don't believe I voiced my opinion one way or the other. Just posted what the new hitting coach said. And during yesterday's game on TV, Hut and the other announcer said it.

Perhaps that's why he's not hit a homer, as well. But hey, if he makes contact and can get on base at a nice rate, good enough for me. He's got good speed, so perhaps potential lead-off hitter. If that does happen, could put Yelich in the three hole and bat Stanton fourth. Just not sure who we'd put second, guess it depends on lefty/righty. He's also got 4 SBs this Spring with getting caught just once. Because I haven't watched the games and have no idea who all that was against, it may not be saying much. ML talent or minor leaguers? Just something to keep in the back of your mind.

It's easier to pretend to agree with you than it is to argue and watch you do the 2 step around things when you are proven wrong so you never have to admit it. BTW Not under my skin at all. I actually openly laugh at the self importance and hypocrisy some show here.

I'm starting to wonder if Yelich has a future at all now because both Wild Card and BroncoBob are not "worried" about him. Darn it. Once again I forgot to wait for you to tell us all what our opinion is.

Maybe to all of the above. Trying to sign him right after the debacle of 2012 would have been counter productive. And I can't blame him for not wanting to talk long term contract now. Trying to force something on him right now would also be counter productive. It would be like telling him that him and his reps are too stupid to know what is best for him. We know better, so shut up and sign on the dotted line. Better to let him take his time and just see how things transpire. He knows he's getting another hefty raise again next off season no matter what. The real question is whether or not he wants to stay here.

I'm not worried about Yelich, not even a little bit. I'm not either. He may just be one of those players that have bad ST's. Not sure if he will break camp with the team, but that may be a good thing.

Really? It's not that hard to figure out. The players suck--that what's why they hit the ball to the place where fielders are. It's like having our own Tim McCarver on the board. And yet basically the very same players are starting to do it. Amazing. And again, because it was so "conviently" ignored, it's what they are saying, not me. So go harrass the players and coaching staff. I'm sure they will say you couple of guys are too smart and cool for them, too. I'm done with the 5th grade remarks/mentality from you all.

Who knew that would do the trick?! Hitting it where they ain't seems like such an easy concept. And it is. But show us where they have been doing that in this park that basically demands that kind of offense. Hasn't happened. Could be that the players have been trying to do too much. Inexperience at this level. Whatever. Bottom line is that they haven't been doing it. Now we are on our 5th hitting coach since 2010 and he is preaching it. It's not something I noticed, it's been well reported that's what he is going after.

Just because they sucked at hitting last year doesn't mean that they weren't trying to hit the ball where fielders weren't. I don't know if you intentionally miss the point, just ignore it so you don't have to admit you were wrong, or just need a 10 year old to explain it to you.

Sounds like a completely new baseball strategy. Hit the ball where the defenders aren't. If you checked the stats from last year at home you would have to think to them it is a new strategy. Last place in nearly every offensive category? The real point was that if Salty is a gap hitter he should do fairly well here. Especially now that they are preaching this very method.

Or you should look deeper into the situation and see that Salty is a line drive hitter that uses the gaps constantly. He will be absolutely fine at Marlins Park. The new hitting coach has been preaching using Marlins Park to our advantage. Hitting the gaps to get those doubles and triples, instead of swinging for the fences. The "one team" way of thinking. Quick look at ST stats to date seems to indicate that's what they are working on.

His job is to make the IF better, not be a stat watcher. The stat watchers can slam him all they want for not agreeing with their way of thinking. Apparently it dosen't bother him. Knowing how each hitter is going to react to each pitch depending on the count and/or circumstance, and then placing the IF to respond to that is just his way of doing things. It seems to work. He's right, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I liked his comments about Lee. It's hitting on what I've always said. A great 1B will make your IF look better. Put a bad to mediocre 1B over there and watch the throwing errors mount up along with the IF hits.

Again, probably just a PR move. "We raised our prices because of you guys, our fans paid that raised price to see the world champs, and you gave us garbage, we care about our fans," etc etc. That's where my argument stands. I'm not typically one to go against the front office (publicly), but that's really all this is, I believe. Agree. Trying to make themself look good in the eyes of the fans. I normally go to this game every year and have never seen no regular starters. Can't say it's always been at least 4 because I never counted or took much notice. This game is always priced at the super premium, even when the Sox had a bad season the year before. Ditto for when they play the Cards here. And usually sold out, or very close to it. If the fans were to say something it would go unnoticed. But someone from the FO says something and............... I don't ever remember any team sending a lineup like that. Even in a split squad game. They spend the night here because they play the Cards one day and us the next, so I would wonder what their lineup was like the day before vs the Cards.

According to today's PBP, it looks like my fav site (for purely selfish reasons) may be out of the running. But they still have some very good options. Seems as if funding is going to be the main hurdle. If it goes on the ballot I have doubts it would get done. The "debacle" of funding for Marlins Park is too fresh on the minds of folks in this county. Whether that is fair or not is irrelevant. There would have to be a mega-major PR blitz to get voters to approve anything like this.

Not the only one. Baseball was a game made to be played during the day. I'll be there opening night by the way. Section 26, I think. For Opening Day, yea. Everyone I know expects me to take that day off. But lights were added to boost ticket sales, and it has worked. Not messing up a tradition, I'll be at this game. Section 8.

Why? I love having it here. It's great. Entirely different atmosphere from regular games. In a good way. In a very good way. Almost always perfect weather to be outside for a family and fan friendly atmosphere. It's just a different feeling being at ST games. Baseball fans show up no matter who is playing and enjoy some (what I call) Chamber Of Commerce weather.

I can't see why loyalty to another team is such a problem to some. Look at it the other way around. If your job (or whatever) had you move to another state, would you then become a fan of the nearest team or would you remain a Marlins fan? Would you like to go to a game and be told you weren't wanted there because you are a transplant? Then there are those that go to games just because they love baseball. Dosen't matter who is playing. See alot of that at ST games. And then it's back to the tons of $$$ ST brings into our state..............I don't want to see the Cards and Marlins move out of PBC. And that is a real possibility. I prefer a couple more teams move in. Or at least nearer. The more the merrier.

This shouldn't transform into why the Marlins don't draw well. Let's get back to why ST should stay here. The biggest reason is the $$$ it brings into the state. I could care in the least how many transplants are here, or where their loyalties are. Irrelevant. This state is sustained on tourism. Come on down and take out your wallets. We accept all major credit cards. Of course we could tell those people we don't want "their kind" here any more. But that would mean we would have to get that income from someplace else. Like higher taxes and a state income tax. But at least we wouldn't have those darned transplants here. Of course those darned transplants most likely include your parents and/or their parents.

I don't personally think Loria is as involved right now as he once was actually. He's still involved at some level of course but he should be anyway. I think he is. But because we haven't made any of those big signings like we did for 2012, he is just keeping a lower profile right now.

Although how someone does at the plate and/or how many ABs he has figures into it, alot more goes into the final decision of whether or not someone makes the team. Johnson is most likely a long shot with us, but he is also "interviewing" for other clubs right now. "Well educated" people should understand this and at the least give the guy kudos for giving it his all.

Why does the tweet mention that the Marlins share a spring training facility with the Cardinals? :lol Didn't get why that was included in the question either. BUT (And a bit off topic) This facility may be just a short term thing as of now. If a couple more teams don't come to Palm Beach or neighboring counties, the Marlins and Cards have the right to also move. It's about closeness of other teams to cut down on travel during ST. Right now the Astros, Nats, and (long shot) Blue Jays are looking into 3 proposed sites here. One is about 5 minutes from me @ John Prince Park. Palm Beach Post had an article on this one last week. A very serious one in Palm Beach Gardens (minutes from Roger Dean) was shot down recently because of the residents concerns about traffic, etc. IMO, pretty short sighted by the residents there.
