  1. In other news, the Red Sox re-signed Andrew Miller.

It's not even guaranteed money :lol

i still have the miller shirts from the giveaway lol

i got his autograph at fenway(as a marlin)....seemed like a nice guy...on a side note, i met andrew's pitching coach at one of my cousins' games back in single A. he thought for sure andrew miller was the next big thing among south paws

  2. if the team stays healthy for the most part and in addition to pujols to what he have added and have...we are competing for the best record in baseball, not 2nd place in the division

  3. Albert Pujols will help sell tickets and get Miami excited.

    Mark Buerhle will not.

In the first year, the ballpark will help sell tickets. Beyond that, winning is going to help sell tickets. If after 5 years, Albert is a deterrent to winning, he'll do the opposite.

eh....i agree to a certain extent but pujols in conjunction with hanley, stanton and etc. that come on down the line should be able to fill the seats

  4. these are epic times to be a marlins fan...

maybe we go on a run like boston did with all their teams and championships

This franchise is still a ways away from being a dynasty. Right now they only have one really good starting pitcher and not much pitching depth in the minors.

agreed but like was pointed out pujols is an investment that loria will expect heavy returns on

if we see those heavy returns, i see us being big players on the international market and really doing a lot more scounting in the caribbean area...plus the other area franchises look to be swining upwards and im confident golden will turn around the canes...just a damn good day to be a miami fan

  5. Why is it possibly offensive but definitely not anti-semitic?

If it's offensive it is so only because it would be anti-semitic.

Antisemitism implies hatred and discrimination. That sign doesn't say 'Jews are so cheap, don't trust them'. It's clearly a lighthearted joke with little implied hatred. In fact, it's just a stereotype. That's about it. Some people might not like to be stereotyped as cheap, but there's nothing wrong with being cheap and there's no hatred being expressed from that sign about somebody being cheap. In fact, it's promoting being cheap.

Meh, it's a semantic argument. Not really worth it.

He's actually raising a pretty important point.

In today's world it is all too common that people are branded as "racist" or "anti-Semitic" for simply perpetuating certain stereotypes about blacks, Asians, Jews, etc often in the form of jokes. Adhering to stereotypes might be an ignorant act (depending on if the person truly believes the stereotype to be true for all people in the group), but it does not necessarily imply a true hatred for the race or the belief that one's own race is inherently superior. The result is that many people are mislabeled as being "racist."

i hate it, but i whole heartedly agree with you on this...i mean im french canadian and irish and i love whiskey and guiness...i perpetuate a stereotype but hey, who am i to argue with the nectars of the gods

and btw, awesome sign, i wish they didnt have to take it down

  6. but you add gio and maybe go sign mark buehrle and wow, that becomes as impressive of a staff as there is in the NL

    johnson, gio, anibal, buehrle, volstad/nolasco/tbd

and playing in a pitcher's park....................:-)

  7. A. my new marlins hat cannot arrive fast enough(but im too cheap for over night shipping)

    B. please go get gio...we need a good lefty and it frees up money to go get needs in other areas

    C. being a dolphins, heat, panthers(at least they are good so far)...is it baseball season yet?

  8. what do the marlins or josh johnson gain by rushing back when the marlins are 20+ games under .500? josh will be the opening day starter barring a set back because when he healthy, he is better than most everyone else who can pitch a baseball and if he gets injured again, so be it but you cant plan on your players being hurt

  9. me thinks passan has no idea how a new baseball stadium is created in a metorpolis area...i mean its not like the yankees extorted the taxpayers of new york at all...right? right?

oh thats right, they are the yankees...they get to do whatever they want huh passan?

the guy is a dick and if he goes fishing and catches a marlin, i hope it pierces his heart. end/rant

i would really love to piss on this guy but didnt the yankees basically pay for their stadium themselves?

    http://reason.com/ar.../yankee-welfare

I have to give a big LOL to Jimmy linking to an article from Reason.

and are the facts there not verifiable?

the yanks extorted the city of new york on a much larger scale than the marlins did to miami

not that it make it right, but thats usually how professional stadiums get built...but city managers also realize the potential return on investment is worth the risk

  10. Twins payroll went from $65 million in 2009 in the Metrodome to $97 million in 2010 in Target Field.

In 2011 their payroll was $113 million. They didn't spend that money wisely, but the point is certainly interesting because in the early 00s, the Twins and Marlins were the two most prime suspects for contraction/relocation.

It's a shame that none of this was acknowledged in the article, but it clearly would have gone against whatever type of argument he was trying to construct.

i try to not make it a habit agreeing with you on anything, but this is an awesome post...well done sir

  12. at least these people decided their own fate

i mean im sure there was some debate in france as to what would happen to those young american colonies after they won their independence from the british

and 80 years later, there was one of the most brutal wars in all of man-kind and those young colonies had turned into states fighting for their own right to govern as they please versus having a more powerful form of centralized government...the fight continues to today in this land, and as the arab spring continues to garner strength and inspiration by disillusioned poor and middle class in their land, the dictators will fall one by one by one

maybe not in our lifetime but will those dictatorships be dissolved completely but the youth of those nations know what they want and that is freedom....and the ability to choose for yourself is a powerful destiny, and i for one am hopeful and optimistic that if we can stop finding reasons to hate these people, to judge them, to slight them, to fear them...than maybe they will see the same in us as in with the rise of the internet most especially, it is not right for one person to have all the money and power and this is the revolution of our time

    rot in hell forever gadhafi

    Do you hear voices?

no, why? whats it to ya?

  13. ARKHAM CITY.

id say its probably the best non-1st person ive ever played...at first i felt like arkham city was just way more of the same but wow, i got completely sucked in and have played for like 9 hours and am a complete bat-zombie from this

please, please...for the love of all that is holy, come out with a good superman game!!!!!

  15. yes he did and he didnt throw the ball very well either...nerves...but i had an amazing time and got a bunch of pirates gear and got to meet Jason Grilli in the pro shop with his family and he was basically the nicest guy ever and told me how the guys would look after jeff and keep him out of trouble

anyways, wow...that stadium is beautiful and i got to watch friday night's game too where the marlins did shell the pirates

so really in comparison, jeff threw pretty well when compared with his teammates and he kept the ball in the park

anyways, the pirates are my new 2nd favorite team and definitely have the best ballpark ive been to...and now after a 10 hour drive home, im taking a nap

  16. so jeff confirmed for me today that he is pitching saturday against the fish and then his next start will be against the dodgers in LA

im so damn excited for him
