  1. Yet you would trust him in a pressure situation despite knowing that he crumbled so bad in the 03' playoffs he was pushed into the bullpen? Beckett is one of the few guys who thrive on preassure and adrenaline so much it actually makes him THAT much better. Look at his attitude, look at how he despises his own failure. He lives on that rush and the more there is the better he is. He's the ace cause he has the balls to be the ace, Willis maybe someday but as of now if 1 game made the difference I'd want Beckett out there to start it, and I promise you if it does come to 1 game, Jack will do exactly that cause he knows what Beckett can do.
  2. I have one question and on point. 1. Can someone who is so adamently in favor of firing Bill Robinson explain why a hitting coach is so important? and what you expect a new better hitting coach to do differently? and what that impact will be? 2. Though we have struggled offensively and are on pace to score less runs than last year, I think people's expectation of this lineup is unfair. Last year they scored 718 runs and only made one change, that is Delgado instead of Conine. Everyone expects the Marlins to be in the top 3 or 4 in baseball and score 800 runs. But Delgado is not 80 runs better than Conine. 30, maybe. Even that is a lot. So we shouldn't expect them to score more than 750 or so. 797311[/snapback] To #1. Do something to wake these guys up, costing a man his job will sure get you thinking. AS I said worked in 03' lets try it in 05' just not as drastic. To #2. I think Delgado is worth another 50 or 60 runs, take into affect how much he disrupts the lineup (we've seen it a few times this year) soon as Castillo and Pierre start getting on base consistantly he'll be able to do the same thing Pudge did for us but with a little more pop. Before the year started I was thinking he'd get a good 120 RBI, course I didn't expect are leadoff hitters to be doing so horrible right now.
  3. Problem is they are hitting, just not when there supposed too (ie. RISP). I think we're still top 5 in NL in average and OBP
  4. Firing someone or making a heavy trade servers more as a wakeup call to the team then it does a way of improvment. 2003 was a perfect example, you think McKeon managed to turn a team destined for a record of 10 or 15 games under .500 into World Champs all with his own little skill and magic. Firing and restaffing half the coaches sends a serious message, and right now thats what this team needs. Weather it really is Robinson none of us can really know, it could be that, could be pitchers have are lineup mastered, could be a players don't have there heads in the game, theres a dozen possibilities but something needs to get done to wake these guys up. If we wait and wait and wait on this we'll find ourself completly out of it. Yeah it's early but the race is so tight we need to get these early wins under are belt so we can have a cushion come September, especially against are own division.
  5. Not too bad, lots of has beens in there but it's good enough for a serious playoff run. You want a bullpen in shambles just call up a Cubs or Giants fan.
  6. My, my some touchy people here. Guess this forum suffers from the same disease as all the others, always reading the cover never the story. This team is hands down the best Marlins team ever assembled in it's brief history and has the talent to be one of the top 10 teams in the past 15 years. Like I said I'm not worried to much because eventually this offense will click and we'll average 6 or 7 runs a game. I'd bet money that we will win atleast 20 games in a month twice before the season ends and this team does have the ability to finish with triple figures in the win column. The point of this thread really wasn't meant to be a panic thread, though I guess I made it sound like it. The point was to determine if we should get something for Burnett or risk losing him at the end of the season. Lets look at the facts on why I think he'll leave. First, they have 3 other players they will want to sign long term before Burnett. These people being Beckett, Willis, and Miguel and a fourth possibility could be Pierre. Thats 3, maybe 4 heavy duty contracts to iron out. Second, Burnett and the front office ain't exactly close buddies and theres a whole lotta tension between Beckett and Burnett though I think thats a plus cause it creates a little extra drive to go out and preform better then that guy. Third, the stadium issue. Without a stadium Loria will not be willing to throw money like we would all love to see. Even his "special money" has a end to it. Fourth, Delgado. Owed 14 million next season. Fifth, if he's healthy imagine what he will get off the market. All he has to do is look at Pavano. 4 year, $40 million for a pitcher that Burnett can beat out anyday and he knows it. So the question is do we keep him for the run or do we try to improve any gaping hole we may find in July, such as Center Field, Thrid base, Bullpen, ect. and keep THAT player a Marlin for the future such as maybe a Jason Bay or another young gun. No one in baseball in untradeable, look at Beltran and the Big Unit as examples, A-Rod as well. Anyways I have high hopes for this team, and I cannot see anything under 92 Wins with a serious run into the NLCS and hopefully the World Series for ring #3.
  7. 3. Doug Mientkiewicz, Mets 185,924 4. Jeff Bagwell, Astros 132,469 5. Carlos Delgado, Marlins 106,632 Mientkiewicz .206 7HR's 20 RBI Bagwell .250 3 HR's 15 RBI currently on 15 day DL Delgado .313 10 HR's 35 RBI The second coming of the Crack epidemic is upon us... Also I though Nomar was out trhough the All-Star break.
  8. Think about it this way, if the team goes through June and most of July playing like they are now, a week of winning followed by two weeks of misery and hell should we do something drastic and make a huge move. Reasoning for this is: #1. Doesn't look like he'll be back next year, and if nothing really gets done with the stadium he DEFINATLY won't be back in a Marlin uniform if he manages to remain healthy this year. Plus we have several guys down in AA who could come up and do a decent job of covering up the 3 spot. #2. If are team struggles for the next month or two and we really do end up with a tight 4 or 5 team race then filling a hole will be crucial. Weather it be another big bat, something to solidfy the bullpen or a pair of decent starters, or maybe a deal to give a little of each. I've got faith in these guys and eventually that lineup is going to click and we may pull out a pair of 20 win months over the remainder of the season, but it's always good to have a plan B and it might be better to get something for the guy then just letting him walk.
  9. Hey all, been reading these boards for a long while now and finally decided to get posting. Anyways anyone know if the Marlins are still looking at Vazquez, I know they were drooling all over this guy for awhile. He's done pretty good so far this year and I think bringing him down here to Miami would only help. Got a huge contract but maybe they could get the D'Backs to pick up a piece. Ship off Enc and Pierre even though I love the guy along with a prospect maybe.
