  1. I could care less about what the world thinks or popularity contests! Just do it!! That really is just a terrible mindset to have. Regaining the support of the international community should be one of the priorities of the American government in coming years. Lets be real about this... the world has not cared about the US for quite some time and it did not happen over night and all of a sudden with this current administration...it goes way back. Other countries will always dislike the US. Its plain and simple. Its too bad but its the reality and the truth. They did not like us during Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, Jimmy Carter, etc. The US has done a lot of good for other countries and all we get is B.S. Therefore, once again it is why I made the earlier statement. Oh and by the way ...adjust your mindset to reality. Although I agree with some of this, the rest of it is quite off base in my opinion. There are countries which always have, and always will hate the US but the other 75% of the world is not so black and white on the issues. It is the support of these other countries which will help to ensure the long term success of the United States. Clinton was one of the most well liked, and well repsected presidents abroad and is considered by many abroad as one of the best US presidents ever. (Please note, I am not making this a republican vs. democrat argument, just simply responding to your post.) In all of my travels and places I've lived abroad I have had the chance to discuss politics with every sort of person imaginable from all over the world. Whehere you belive it or not, people appriciate the good works done by the United States but also are quick to disapprove of other actions (ie: the current war and administration.) Just because some sects of people and governments hate the US, doesn't mean we should scrape international relations altogether. To give a little more insight on the matter, I will say that in all of my time travelling in the middle east (Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, Azerbaijan...) I was amazed at the response I got from the people. Despite the fact that they nearly all disapproved of the current administration, they were some of the warmest, most welcoming people I've ever met. They were able to separate their personal and political feelings and realize that just because I was from America, doesn't mean that I am "evil" or "anti-middle east."

  3. I have to admit I love that the Giants are out. I will never be able to respect Eli Manning for thinking he is good enough to refuse to play for an organziation that drafts him. Just primadonna bulls*** if you ask me...
  4. I think it will help alot. They are already building new buildings everywhere, but there still are sh*tty parts. If the stadium gets built there you better believe people are going to build bars and restaurants near the stadium. A brand new place just opened called Finnegans on the river in down town. Hopefully the value of land inceases so that, and I hate to say it, but the bad areas, homeless and other things that are detriments that are in downtown get moved elsewhere. One of the best examples of this may be Coors Field in Denver. "LoDo" was one of the absolute worst parts of the city but once Coors Field was built it has become a hot spot for night life as well as many new restaurants and other attractions. The stadium did wonders for the neighborhood as well as the city of Denver...
  5. I still remember going to my first Marlins game in '93 in the spring while I was on vacation in Florida. Over all the years, I still have the ticket stub, and program. Hence, my love affair with the fish started...
  6. Not a bad idea. It's good to see car manufacturers finally taking a more serious stance on drunk driving. There's a lot of potential in this area to save a lot of lives...
  7. Ok Accord, 1. A human life doesn't have value. You can't put a price tag on it because the moment you start doing that the people who are "less valuable," aka "non-American" according to you, start hating the "more valuable." 2. This rift leads to violence and death of priceless human lives over which person is more valuable, which is moronic when you really think about it. 3. I know you are going to start e-screaming that I am a "liberal tree-hugging hippie" but maybe if we try to create an ACCORD (ironic ain't it?) with the people in the middle east instead of blowing the sh*t out of them like they are doing to us, then everyone will be better off. They hate us because of people like you constantly saying that we are better than they are, and until that mindset changes this world will continue to spiral downward. BTW, as for your little "Run along child" comment STFU. I'm an American. Respect me. I hope the military teaches you to have some. :thumbup 1. Yes it does. 2. Wrong. 3. You're not a liberal tree hugging hippie, you're just clueless and oblivious to the world around you. You want to reason with the terrorists, you want to negoatiate with them. That is absolutely drop dead STUPID. Mabye it never occured to you that they attacked us first, we did not just go into Afghanistan because we felt like it. We were at peace with the world and all of a sudden within a matter of minutes there are 3,000 dead American's. You're a self loathing anti-American piece of garbage if you actually have the audacity to place any blame whatsoever on America and what this country has been put through by terrorists for the past several decades. You're just like Jimmy, you may not be as outspoken on here as him, but you're one in the same. You have the attitude of things like 9/11 being our own fault, you're the the type of person when you hear on the news "2 soldiers killed today in Iraq" you probably think to yourself "Dumbasses, that's what they get for signing up at a time like this." Respect you? Respect is earned, and you most certainly have not done so. I have done nothing wrong in this thread but I am attacked because I believe that America is the greatest country in the world and I value American lives more than anyone else. Repulsive. Those are actually two very valid and sensible points Accord. Yet you seem to dismiss them without even considering them or reading them really. I understand you're strong in your beliefs but it would help for you to actually take the time to read some of these posts, as well as delve further into topics rather than blindly sticking to your guns. On a different topic, I really do hope any time you spend abroad while in the service will help open your eyes a bit to see that there is more in the world than just America and more importantly, that the actions of America and everyone else in the world, effect not only themselves, but others as well. Some cross-cultural experience could do you well (Although a start, your weekly drinking trips to Canada as a teenager don't exactly constitute themselves as a learning experience.) Through my experience, my advice to you (which I'm certain you will immediately discard) is to keep an open mind when you're in your service and hopefully while serving your time abroad. You might just learn something they didn't teach you in your high school U.S. history class.
  8. There's a Real World in Denver? When did this happen?
  9. I must say, I'm jealous of all of you who live in Florida and get to see the Fish play frequently. I haven't seen a game in Miami in a couple of years and have only been able to see them when they play the yearly series in Colorado. Yet for the next two years I won't be able to see them at all, lets hope mlb.tv works out here... despite the fact that I will have to wake up at 3 in the morning to watch the games.
  10. As for the muslim soldier/translator, I never even heard about that. The reason it probably received so little coverage is because he most likely was not an American soldier, but simply a local Iraqi who was being paid by the military to translate. Most translators in Iraq and Afghanistan are not American's and not members of the military, they're trusted locals who are paid by the military. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...l?nav=emailpage Thanks for proving my point. He is an American. He was a soldier. And you prove that you don't give a sh*t about him because you assumed he was a local Iraqi. Why? Because he doesn't fit your stupid little profile of what an American is supposed to be. So what you've effectively proven is that you don't give a sh*t about the flag and America but only your own personal butchered sense of what those things stand for. I did not prove I don't give a sh*t about him, a soon to be fellow brother in arms, stop being a moron F_M. Christ, it's like talking to a child... Accord, I'm asking you this in all seriousness, have you ever been outside of the United States before? Have you ever gained any kind of insight on the world other than what you have read about online? Attack my character because you don't like what I have to say. Cool. I expect nothing less from you liberal jackasses on here. F_M makes a reply to me where he physically inserts words into my mouth saying I don't give a sh*t about the flag or America which is offensive and I reply to him telling him to stop being a moron. I will not even dignify a post like that with a retort of my own - then you call me a child and try to discredit me by accusing me of being isolated full well knowing that the rest of your little crew will jump on the bandwagon because as it stands i'm public enemy #1 in this forum. I've come to expect this type of crap from the resident MB.com liberals, all of this because I make a post stating that an American life is more important than an Iraqi/Afghan/whatever life. Sad. You once again didn't answer my question... Have you been out of the United States before? Where? For how long?

  12. Wow. Accord talking about Freedom of Speech with a "Love it or leave it" sig! I love irony. Yeah you're damn straight. You exercise your right to free speech by saying how much you hate America and always talking about everything that is wrong with America and all it's flaws, and i'm exercising my right to free speech by telling you that if you don't love America then you're more than welcome to leave. Most of the people on here are just windbags, all talk and no action. If you believe so hard in the things you say on here, then do something about it. Why is it that whenever a debate turns sour you start throwing around accusations and fly off of the original topic Accord? And for the record, some of us are actually out here, doing something for what we believe in and trying to actually improve the world, not only in America.
  13. but that's not how it is now. Which is SAD. An innocent American life is no more valuable than one of another nationality. An innocent American life is more valuable than the life of an innocent civilian of another nationality. That's just the way it is. Wow. The only thing you should be "wow'ing" at is the incredible lack of patriotism and national pride among many American's these days. Two people are being held hostage, one is an American and one is Russian. Only one of them will live and you're the only person with the power to decide which one. Don't f***ing tell me you would pick the non-American over the American. This has nothing to do with patriotism and whether you like it or not, there are things in this world more important and more sacred than patriotism to ones country. The value of a human life should be one those things, irregardless of nationality.
  14. An innocent American life is no more valuable than one of another nationality. An innocent American life is more valuable than the life of an innocent civilian of another nationality. That's just the way it is. Wow... Just wow... I don't even know how to respond to this. I have lost what little respect I previously had for you Accord with that comment though. This is absolutly disfraceful and hopefully not an indicator of the mindset of our armed forces. If it is, I'm very fearful in the way America and the world is going. You make think this is an extreme response, but i am appalled that you could say that and actually mean it...
  15. .........And we were the bad guys for dropping the nukes. Yes, it is still a horrible tragedy that over 100,000 Japanese civilians were killed in the attacts on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One horrible act does not cancel another. These were both terrible things but don't for one second try to spin this. You have a lot of American pride which is admirable Accord but a human life is a human life, no matter what nationality. An innocent American life is no more valuable than one of another nationality. I just hope you realize this when you head off to training and possibly wars. .........And we were the bad guys for dropping the nukes. 16. i was wondering why they were thinking about having that game just hours to gametime, when the airport was closed and the city was basically shutdown. btw, tonight's flames-alavanche game has been postponed due to the continuing bad condtions in the area. The state is actually really good about getting roads and highways in good, working condition during snowstorms. Snow will rarely shut things down in Colorado, I can only think of a handful of times it has happened while I lived there. When the airport closes and things get shut down, you know theres a lot of snow in Colorado. Yet somehow everyone still finds a way to make it to the mountains... gotta love it
  17. PETA is a joke. If any other group on the face of the earth said what they said, everyone would completely and whole heartedly agree with the statement about the players being a bunch of wimps. But since it's PETA, everyone just writes off what they said as being nutjobs, which is wrong and stupid. what about all the harmless tree's Peta cuts down to publish not only the letter but all the pamphlets they hand out everywhere. I'm sure you think you're being really clever. You're not. You want to kill people but not animals. We get it. Haha! Ba-Zing
  18. Alright I know that nobody care except me, but how the hell is Mason Crosby the kicker for the 3rd-team? Despite the fact that the Buffs were terrible this year, he is arguably the best kicker in the history of collge football.
  19. Gang violence such as that occurs because of our constituational right to bear arms. Whether the gang members bought the guns themselves or not, they were purchased by someone who then passed the gun on. I realize that there are illegal gun deals in the states, but a majority of the guns used in violence such as gang violence were purchased legally and registered. The main arugment against gun control does not use accidental death but rather the fact that guns are killing thousands and thousands of people every year. That is asinine. Gang violence occurs because of the 2nd Amendment? I cannot even put into words how ridiculous that statement is, that's on the level of something that Jimmy would post. Gangs without guns would still kill each other, and the addicts wouldn't be robbing people at lollypop point for their next fix if guns didnt exist. You are extremely short sighted to think that gun violence is the problem, and not a symptom of the larger issue. Let's be real here, you don't honestly believe that gang violence exists only because of guns? That's just blatant stupidity, you can't be that naive and I don't believe you are. Are there no gangs in England where guns are completely banned and crime is through the roof? Where there's a will, there's a way. In places which have outright banned all firearms, the same crimes still happen, the same gangs still exist, and the same violence still occurs. In Australia where there are no guns, the new trend is mugging people with a blood filled syringe. You can take away all the threatening items on the planet, but people will still resort to swinging a board with a rusty nail in it. Then to say that a majority of the guns used by gangs were purchased legally and registered also could not be any farther from the truth. Virtually all crimes committed with a firearm are acquired by either stealing them, through a straw purchase, or the black market such as a Saturday Night Special on a street corner - all of which are felonies. But forget all this, I have a real solution: Let's just make murder illegal. Oh wait... Please read my previous post... not just my argument but the points I made on making this discussion better. You seem to have skipped over those.
  20. In my opinion, the negative aspects from the 2nd amendments greatly outweigh the positives in America. Although the amendment was a valid concern and probably necessary at the time it was created, in this day and age it causes nothing but useless death and injury to the American public. Is there a way to quickly and effectivly appeal this while keeping American citizens safe? No, but I find it troubling when I see the NRA and gun control advocates touting the 2nd amendment like it is the saving grace of our country and the most important issues in the world today. The government is there for a purpose, the military is there for a purpose, but the right to own a gun has not protected America or its citizens, it has in fact done just the opposite and caused so many useless and even accidental deaths that something should be done. You are wrong, you are so incredibly wrong. To say the 2nd amendment does nothing but cause useless death to American's is downright ignorance. The right to own a gun has not protected America or it's citizens? More than 2 million violent crimes are prevented every single year by law abiding citizens who own firearms. You have been brainwashed by the media and anti-gun groups into thinking that there is some huge problem with accidental deaths, because there isn't. Cars, swimming pools, food, bicycles, and literally hundreds of other things cause more accidental deaths each year than firearms, yet there are no calls to ban them. The statistics you see on the news from groups like the Brady's are deceptive because they factor in suicides and gang violence among other things to artificially inflate the "accidental deaths" statistic. Gun control is racist, the first gun control laws were instituted right after the civil war ended and the slaves were freed, they were implemented by racist white sheriff's and local governments to prevent blacks from obtaining firearms. I don't have a problem with people who are anti-gun, if that's how you feel I don't really care. What bothers me is people like you who are clearly ignorant to the subject and feel as if you know what's best for me, you want to run my life and dictate how I should live. Sorry, not gonna happen. I'm assuming this topic will end with this but Accord, these discussions would be much better if we could all have them in a halfway civil manner. You come to all of these wild conclusions without ever really forming a counter-argument, then when confronted, resort to ridiculous name calling and badgering. I really did want to see your side of the issues but instead you jump to irrational insults and manage to competely avoid the topic at hand. These "accidental death" statistics were not even a main part of my previous argument, so the inflation of them holds very little water, especially when you use the fact that guns are used in gang violence as a counter argument. That's just one more strong argument for my case and against your own. I'm not sure why exactly you brought up the fact that gun control is racist and then later defend gun control by saying that not all registered card carriers and members of the NRA are white trash, rednecks but there seems to be an odd correlation between the two. In a debate, why would you even bring this point up? It makes absolutely no sense except for the fact that it avoids the topics which you should be confronting. Finally, I am not ignorant on the subject. Far from it actually. I'm sure you will counter saying that I have been brainwashed by the "liberal" media but the fact is that that is not true at all. I have been affected personally in the past with gun violence and have done a lot of reading on the subject and have come to my own conclusions on the matter. I never once said I knew what was best for you, or told you how to live, but I, and I'm sure a lot of others on here would appriciate if you put a little more thought into your posts on topics such as this where we are all fairly divided and passionate about. Calling people ignorant and slamming them instead of forming an actual intelligent counter argument does nothing but make you look unintelligent and completly ignores the fact why this forum is here in the first place, to exchange ideas on current events etc.
  21. Sorry, but 1st Amendment>2nd Amendment. Always. And who made you the constitution police? You're such an elitist jackass. The 2nd Amendment ensures that all the others are able to exist, get that through your thick brain housing group. I am curious how the right to bear arms ensure that others are able to exist. Could you explain further your thoughts on this. It's pretty apparent that I am against gun control for the United States but I really do want to hear your thoughts on this. Correct me if I'm wrong but this applies only to the United States on a national level, not on an international level (ie: War.) Therefore this argument doesn't hold true on the war on terriorism etc. The amendment was created for self defense but I don't see how it ensures that all others are able to exist. This seems to be a pretty big stretch. Please do explain further though, I'm curious. The government is now so large and so detached from mainstream American society that encroachments on our civil liberties are not really enforceable unless you're extremely wealthy and can hire a high profile attorney - that's just how it is nowadays, so technically no the 2nd amendment no longer ensures that all the others are able to exist in modern society, however the only reason the first amendment and all of the others were able to exist originally up into the 20th century and not be stripped from us was because our government was for the people and by the people, and our citizens were armed and and would not ALLOW a government to violate any of our constitutional rights. Our government doesn't exist to serve the American public anymore, it exists to serve itself. For example people like to talk about how great it was when we had a huge surplus under Clinton, all a surplus means is that honest American citizens were taxed far too much. Our government has two purposes: 1) keep American's safe, and 2) keep our highways pothole free. Everything else is a waste of tax dollars. But I disagree that it doesn't hold true for the war on terrorism. Right now the GWOT is being fought on a foreign land, but the second we let our guard down it will be fought on the streets of New York, LA, and Miami, rather than Kandahar and Fallujah. It's a miracle, a god damned miracle that we haven't had a single suicide bomber or anything in American since 9/11. It will only take one small incident not even 1/100th the size of 9/11 for American's to begin living like Israeli's, constantly in fear anytime they walk into a McDonalds or get on a bus wondering if a suicide bomber will be there. It's only a matter of time before people once again realize the value of the 2nd amendment. In WW2, the only reason the Japanese did not invade American shores was because as Admiral Yamamoto the supreme commander of Japanese forces in WW2 put it in 1941 ""We cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass." You really believe that the only reason the constitution has been upheld into the 20th century is because of our right to bear arms? And that the right to bear arms is not only to hold off foriegn forces but also the government itself? The military and all its branches are the forces designated by the government to protect the american public, not the arming of its citizens. I don't think the 2nd amendment has anything to do with where America is as a nation right now but in fact has only degregated our society. Do you think the fact that citizens are allowed to carry firearms has ever stopped an attack on the US? You quote a commander from WW2 but as far as I can tell, that quote is misused to suit your argument. I believe he was refering to the army and the amount of US troops at the time of the war, not the fact that the occasional citizen owns a gun and isn't afraid to use it. I would touch on your point of the government serving itself but it seems you only contradict yourself a few sentences later when you so poetically state the purpose of the government. A government cannot mearly "serve itself." A government is by definition a body which is designated to serve the country. Although we may argue on how effectivly it does this and what exactly "serving" the country means, it is still designed and used to help better the welfare of the country. 23. Wow, just wow. Yep, inner city kids get sh*tty educations, our country has some debt, and we have "silly little problems," so screw all those millions of innocent people dying around the world from genocide, damn them all to hell! Thank god none of our leaders throughout history were like you, otherwise there wouldn't be a single Jew on the face of this earth. Infact, I can go even deeper and say thank god that not even the FRENCH your attitude, otherwise we'd all be British. "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." You've got to be kidding me? Your comments never cease to amaze me Accord Your knowledge (or lack thereof) of American history never ceases to amaze me. You seem to have completely missed the point of the comment. Back to the whole profiling thing which you so dearly love to do...
  24. I just dont understand how people can sit and realize that there are massive problems in the world, and simply not care.(Im saying this in a grander sense, not to anyone here in particular.) there's no reason to be running around solving other people's problems when we're trotting kids out of the worst high schools in the Western world (and worse than some non-Westerners). Oh, and we can't even get a debt under control, we've got silly little problems even following that piece of paper the soldiers are supposed to be out protecting, and people abuse the government here every second. And we're supposed to be solving other people's problems? No, not yet. Wow, just wow. Yep, inner city kids get sh*tty educations, our country has some debt, and we have "silly little problems," so screw all those millions of innocent people dying around the world from genocide, damn them all to hell!
