  1. Good luck on your project-although the premise is flawed if you believe that year 2 attendance dropped because of the funding. Logically, what purpose would it serve if people actually stayed away from going only to make a point, invalid as it may be, that it is coming out of their tax pocket.

  2. It's tough because we already have so many outfielders/outfield prospects. We have no chance to try them all out long enough to get a grasp on their ability. We have to pick and choose.

No guarantee Marisnick will hit etc. He is good to keep and who knows.

  3. But when it did,

    he did.

Being our 3b coach has to be one of the most boring jobs in mlb. I'd do the same if I were in his shoes!

Excellent point, but when he did have the rare opportunity to send someone home, he usually made the right decision, or we would have been all over him.

  4. If they're going to continue being cheap, the best thing they can do is keep the dimensions the same. Power is expensive. This way they can acquire strike-throwing pitchers at a lower cost and make them look better than they really are which has actually happened this year in a way.

What they need to do is get better hitters. Like, hitters who at least belong in the big leagues. It's really not that difficult.

I don't think that would help the Marlins win any more games. The dimensions make opposing pitchers look better than they really are too.

Exactly. Some people seem to forget that the other team also gets to bat.

Well put. Stanton is a power hitter much like many other power hitters in the league. If he is having problems hitting them out so are opposing hitters that come to our field. I just don't like Stanton having a bad year and blaming it on something else besides himself. Our team is built to make plays with the glove and in some respect on the mound. I can name a good deal of power hitting outfielders that would get killed on defense if they played for the Marlins because of field dimensions. We need to focus on guys that can get on base and guys that can drive in runs consistently not moving fences in for the 1 or so guys on the roster that are consistent power hitters. Doubles come at a higher rate in any park than do home runs and in many cases are just as efficient as getting guys across the plate. You can't tell me this field is not a doubles dream for the right type of hitters. Get on base, advance runners through speed and extra base hits, and make plays on the other teams long pop up outs. The field dimensions actually support our team having a less than stellar pitching staff and still producing w's at home.

agree with your take on stantons comments. It is why many of us soured on Uggla when he left, recall he said it is hard to play your best when the stands are empty. Guess he does not understand how Tampa and Oakland keep winning. Well, he has more people in the stands and the trade sure looks good now.

For Stanton, it is frustrating that he can't play in a bandbox like Philly etc. I understand that, but don't make excuses for it by blaming strikeouts and fielding errors on the dimensions especially this year where he hit more HR here than on the road.

  6. Jayson Stark @jaysonst

Dan Jennings was approached about several GM jobs in recent yrs. Jeffrey Loria wouldn't allow him to interview. Very highly regarded in MLB

Highly regarded, meaningless in the context of working for Loria. Someone here says Beinfest is in the top 5, not sure who does the ranking, but accept the premise-is Jennings in the top 5? So, how is this better? And does it matter unless there are operational changes in decision making.

  7. Apart from Jose, easily my least favorite Marlin team ever . Can't help being a fan, it is who I am, but most games were as enjoyable to watch as sitting through a root canal. Loria is the worst owner in sports but even he can't let this happen again

He can't help it, he tries but some things are just ordained in the DNA. But he did sign Conine and Urbina.

  8. Loria is the worst owner in sports.

And holds grudges like nothing else. I thought it was common knowledge that Loria held back Valakia when Polanco went on the DL back in August. How else does that AAAA Gil Velasquez get called up? As I said to Admin a while back, Dietrich would be punished also for speaking out against Tino.

No other owner in MLB does crap like this. How anyone can defend him at this point is really beyond me.

While Beinfest needs to go, he deserves better. Same in many ways to Loria's biggest pawn over the years, in David Samson, Loria's personal mouthpiece.

As I stated about a month ago, and this article touched on, when was the last time we have heard any Samson-isms? For someone that apparently loves seeing his name in print and seeing himself on TV in interviews etc., he has been very silent. Something is going on there. Best bet is that he is on his way out. And not just out of the Marlins. Out of baseball. Who would hire him??? Unless mommy has married another owner.

I just saw an article, Samson is going to start acting in a play locally. http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/cultist/2013/09/david_samson_you_ignorant_slut.php

  9. “There is concern among some of the folks in uniform that Loria is creating a problem with José Fernández that could become similar to what the Marlins had with Hanley Ramírez, Olney wrote in his column today. Ramírez, as Marlins fans know too well, was traded to Los Angeles in July of last year—and now he’s helping the Dodgers march into the playoffs.

    What does that even mean?

Olney could have provided an example. What problems were created with Hanley, other than buying him gifts and watching him underperform, not care and become a clubhouse problem until there was no choice but to let him go. I can't blame that on Loria.

  10. I guess if Redmond was President of Poland in 1939, he would of apologized to Hitler and the German people not being more accommodating when the Nazi's invaded Poland?

    Finally an apt comparison :Clap

Not a very good first post for BigClark, ok up to this comparison.

  11. In case you missed it, here's MLB Network's take on what happen

Just watched this. Defending redmond is ridiculous. f*** you Redmond. This s*** was completely the braves fault. Johnson spit first in his base path to top it off.

How is any of this Jose's fault? Guys?

Since we know that the Marlins are not the darlings of the national coverage, this says it all regarding objective analysis of what happened. So yea, F the Braves and Redmond needs to apologize publicly because he was wrong.

  12. Pissed as most of you. Johnson, one year wonder who thinks he is a HOF player, talks crap. Then of course the Braves use the excuse about Jose not liking Gattis's homer and Jose, as Fredi the douche said, "can't have it both ways" whichs means Fredi is still a putz. The Braves did not misinterpret Jose's reaction to the HR, they used it as an excuse to try to rattle the kid. Also, they want to get in his head for the many times they will be playing against him in the future. WTF, Johnson is all huffed up because he made contact, but an out, about Jose's "weak" fastball. BS, BS Bs, and yes, I lost respect for Red-the Yankees had ARod's back and they all hate him and we can't back up Jose, who was only standing up for himself and responding to the Braves provocation. At least he has the balls, not like f...ing Redmond. There was a way to do both Redmond, make your point but not throw our guy under the bus. Damn and I disappointed in Redmond, and could have used Gaby Sanchez when Johnson was running in from 3rd, a bit tentatively at first. A good clothesline would have avoided that primal scream he made going back to the base-what was that about.

  13. I'm not 100% sure what anotherrealfan is seeing - at least of late, Stanton has taken MANY 2-0 pitches. He's been more patient overall (exception of when he has two strikes then he flails at f*** all), and I've seen him in many more 3-0 counts lately than previously in the year.

Good job at the comparisons-seriously. We had two close games with the Indians and he was up with opportunity and looked bad. He was 1-11 with 5 strikeouts this weekend, so it is fresh following a 1-12 against the Mets, so as of late he has been bad. If he is getting nothing to hit, then he is helping the pitchers out. He had a good series against the Pirates and got his average up to .261, but since then it is at .245 No disputing all the stats shown here, but the past 7 games has been real bad.

  14. OK, consensus (or at least the last two posts) is a plan is a plan, meaning unless you wipe your mind clean, anything is a plan. Sort of, " I will not have a plan or any idea what I will look for against this pitcher" is a plan. A plan is to look for a certain pitch to drive, or a location-sorry, I didn't consider just swinging at any pitch on a certain count to be a plan. Clearly over the weekend Giancarlo came up to the plate and did just what the plan must have been-no idea what to look for and just swing away. Let's not get caught up on the semantics-he is struggling and not being very smart about it. I am not hating on Giancarlo, it is just frustrating for him and all of us and it is just what it is at this point.

  15. The A's had 35,067 there last night, winning definitely does help.

not always, rays are last in attendance now, i believe.

florida teams just suck for attendance, even if theyre winning. too many people have ties to the northeast or atlanta. rays games only come close to selling out during yankees or red sox games, without those, i think theyd be alot lower in attendance tbh.

Sorry, I don't want this to turn in to an attendance thread. I was just responding within context of Jose Fernandez. Look, it is frustrating that this is just a way for the media to comment, but seem to be exclusive to our situation.

  16. I feel like he is impossible not to like. He loves to have fun, he is absolutely fantastic, and he has seemed to embrace the fan base despite its lack of attendance.

I mean, clearly the last part is just a matter of saying the right things, but a lot of players ignore it or talk badly about it.

Well, the lack of attendance is much less noticeable with half the seats of Sun Life Stadium... I could understand the players' frustration when all you can see is orange seats.

what frustration do our players have or should have?. No one else talks about it. For fun, I looked at the last time the cy young winner, David Price pitched at home, July 12, also a Friday and it was 13,347. I don't care to hear about it. The A's are in first place and we do not hear about the frustration-seems to not be an issue for them, for Tampa either etc.-

  17. Really not sure why Gorkys wasnt on the team as a reserve outfielder but whatever.

    Because he sucks.

How can you say that? Didn't he win the recent batting title in the Venezuelan league? That does count for something. :)
