  1. I was going to say Justin Masterson but he shot it down. Most likely Peavy or Shields.
  2. Piazza probably would have tried it, but his GPA is, as Dean Wormer would say, zero point zero. Dean Wormer? Out of curiosity, how old are you? I had to google that and it took me to Animal House which was in 1978.
  3. Hope Preston Wilson replaces Hutton permanently.
  4. I was beginning to wonder why this thread went 3 pages, lol. Now I see.
  5. Ok that's fair. When the season is over we'll get back to this.
  6. http://www.marlinsbaseball.com/topic/70500-lomo-traded-to-seattle/page-9 Bottom of the thread. You said net wins won't be much. Maybe 2-3 extra from Salty and extra wins over coghlan with Yelich plus improvement from Stanton. And you said this after I said this is probably a 70 win team. That doesn't sound like someone who disagrees with what I said. And this was before Fernandez was out. You did not expect this team to playing like this. You can keep spinning it like you are doing but you are not telling the truth. Very convenient to say you did not have a set win total but all of a sudden say they are playing to your expectations. This team would be a 80 win team with Fernandez if not more.
  7. No, I'm not suggesting anything about this team. Find me one post where I said this is a good team. I distinctly remember a post where I said this team did not improve much and that I do not see this team winning more than 65 to 70 games, and you then seemed to agreed with me on the win total citing the only improvements you saw were with Salty and Stanton with a possibility of Yelich. You did not think this team would be perform at this level. Especially with Jose Fernandez out.
  8. Erick Salty has had only one bad month this season. Not sure why you are comparing him to Buck.
  9. El penguino, I'm pretty sure you did not expect this team to win more than 65-70 games this season. You're stretching the truth when you say this is how you expected them to play.
  10. Our 3rd baseman next year SHOULD be McGehee. He's not a free agent after the season. What Spike said. Mcgehee isn't bad. Maybe if Moran can be here by June of next year Mcgehee can start for the 2 months. If not, I would like to see a better option.
  11. I like Wild Card. Don't agree with what he's saying but good guy. Mcgehee has been OK but hopefully we get more power from 3rd base next year.
  12. I didn't know Jeff Mathis's middle name was fucking. You learn something new everyday.
  13. The current line is slightly better than what I would have projected, but that owes a large part to the explosive first month he had. He has steadily been regressing since then. His defense is bad enough to the point where it is clear that he cannot survive there long term. He's probably one of the worst defensive second baseman in the NL with his only rival being Dan Uggla. Dietrich is what I said he was at the beginning of the season. A decent bat that looks great for a 2B until you realize that his defense isn't good enough for him to be a 2B. That reduces his value overall and makes him an unattractive option for the team long term. Bullshit. Before the season began you crushed Dietrich and said all he offered as a bat was slightly above average power. You did not think he would be hitting close to what he's hitting now.
  14. Yes, he looks like a starter. He's heating up now. His numbers last year in Double A were good. He has power and speed and can defend. He's young. I don't know how the hell you got to 4th outfielder.
  15. Marisnick does not look like a 4th outfielder. What the hell are you saying?
  16. Nicolino's K/9 may be horrible, but his H/9 is respectable and he's walked only 9 in over 60 innings. His WHIP is 1.133, and an ERA of 3.30, he's not doing too bad. His command is his best trait. But he won't survive up here pitching with the way he is in the minors, IMO.He's young so obviously time is on his side. But he's regressed and certainly not the same pitcher we received from Toronto.
  17. Im pretty sure you don't follow the minors very quickly based upon what you are saying. Nicolino obviously doesnt have a high strikeout rate but by all accounts he has great stuff, is a top 100 prospect and has a future in a major league rotation. I have 0 clue what you are talking about in reference to Desclafani if you are just gonna say he doesnt seem to inspiring. I do follow the minor leagues. Nicolino averages 3.9 k/9. That is terrible. Only one list has him as a top 100 prospect, while two other lists dropped him. And odds are he will be dropped by MLB.com next year. He's not a prospect we should be looking forward to until he can start to strike batters out again. Desclafani doesn't seen to have the ability to be a SP but I could be wrong. I seem to remember scouts saying he's better off in the bullpen. We'll see. I think you're focusing too much on these two guys than my overall point, though.
  18. Not sure how you can definitively say Desclafani and Nicolino are not good. Also D'arnaud has a .564 ops in the pat two years and can't stay healthy. At what point is he no longer a top prospect. he is 25 now. Mathis is obviously not a starting catcher but he's very solid for a backup catcher. Not a great hitter but everyone raves about his defense and handling of the pitching staff. Not a bad stop gap as a backup catcher for 2-3 years. Nicolino isn't doing shit in the minor leagues. Desclafani doesn't seen too inspiring. Maybe he can be a decent pitcher here. Obviously with D'Arnaud he doesn't look good now. It's been 200 ABs, though. And at the time he was a great prospect at a position of need.
  19. Alvarez and Marisnick are the two good players out of that deal. Desclafani/Nicolino/Hecchevaria/Mathis are not good. They also fucked up by not acquiring D'Arnaud/Syndergard. It was a smart move to save money. But the money seemed to have been saved for Loria, not the team. They haven't put it back into the team.
  20. When Furcal comes back, I fully expect Dietrich to be sent down. The reason given will be that he needs to work on his defense and play every day down there. As for the platoon, we've already seen that this organization isn't a big believer in such a thing. They aren't platooning Dietrich/Lucas? I haven't been paying much attention but I thought they were, lol.
  21. I think SongInTheAir makes an excellent point in that earlier post. Dietrich keeps getting singled out for some defensive miscues, but we're just gonna ignore that ball he got backing up 1st base to save the game a few games ago, the fact that he's hit a solid .773 OPS at 2B, and the fact that he's still 24 years old. It's amazing how many times Dietrich gets singled out when there are players on this team who avoid this crap. Adeiny especially gets a free pass every single time for being an absolute zero on offense. I understand wanting somebody to improve on defense, but offensive ability is a hell of a lot more important to a successful team and Adeiny has cost us more games with his sh*tty hitting than Dietrich has with his few defensive problems. I'm incredibly annoyed every time I see this story, since there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that whenever Furcal is healthy, he's going to take Dietrich's spot on the roster and Derek will be sent down to AAA. It's insane how this front office seems to have it out for Dietrich. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some of the Dietrich crap still stems from him calling out Martinez for the bullying tactics he did and got him fired. It was rumored that was what stopped Dietrich from being called up in September. I think Loria still has some sway in screwing Dietrich every now and then. Otherwise he should be starting every damn day for this team this year. I agree but I don't know if he should be starting every day. He is a liability defensively and can't hit LHP. I think using him against RHP with Lucas is the way to go. Also, maybe the FO will start Furcal at SS instead of 2B? Hard to imagine them replacing Dietrich/Lucas with how well they're hitting in a platoon.
  22. If they actually win 83 games this season will be a success.
  23. It's usually about 12 months, though, isn't it? If the rehab goes well. He should be back by June of next season. And considering he's Jose Fernandez you know he won't slack during the recovery process.
  24. How many pitchers are out for the year now? It has to be double digits.
  25. Basically went from having Dwight gooden to Matt morris Lmao.
