The key to the series sweep - our starting pitching.
RVH, Volstad and Nolasco combined for a 1.40 ERA in 19.1 innings of work
So basically you're saying we won because we feces the Padres at petco
We won because we poop the Padres at Petco?

Kiko Calero please?

What cracks me up about this team is that they make players play positions that they did not play in the minor leagues. Dont think its a good idea, the idea sucks!
Uggla should not move to 3rd, and if anything they should add another American to the infield. Nothing against Cantu, Bonafacio or especially Ramirez or any other heritage. Sanchez could possibly fit in as part of the future infield.
Also, they should promote relief pitchers to starters from the major league level rather than promote some no name from AA or AAA to make the never-ending emergency starts.
Matt Lindstrum is not a closer, and should not return as the closer. He would be an ideal setup man though. To bad they did not resign Lee Gardner. At least Gardner had 30 minor league saves the year before he was promoted to the Marlins.
Although I probably shouldn't even dignify it with a response, but the Marlins have TWELVE American-born white players on their team.
1. Jeremy Hermida
2. Josh Johnson
3. Brendan Donnelly
4. Dan Meyer
5. Chris Volstad
6. John Baker
7. Ross Gload
8. Wes Helms
9. Dan Uggla
10. Brett Carrol
11. Chris Coghlan
12. Cody Ross
So, not only was your comment "wrong", but it was "wrong." Your best bet is to stop defending it.
Why didnt you add Gaby Sanchez, or Brian Sanches. I think some are getting the wrong idea. Born-American is American regardless of ethnic background. For all you know I could be part Italian, Black, Chinese and Cuban as well as American Born. Try and understand my earlier point or just forget it.
Are u flippin' kidding me? If we add the two guys you mentioned, then your point is even more ridiculous. By your definition, we have even more "American" players, even though you were contending that we don't have enough. You just said "American". You never clarified what that entailed. Pardon me for making my best guess, which also was the most obvious thing.
And now you're going to come out and say "Try and understand my earlier point or just forget it."? Are you serious? So now you're trolling-ish? I've never made one of those "Ban?" posts, but man you're being awfully ridiculous right about now.

Look @ the bolded for what I think is awesome. He theorized that EB would finally lose his job if he does poorly in Spring Training. :lol

I have no idea what compels people to not only have thoughts like that, but to also articulate them in print, and then to post said articulation in a public forum....

Sorry guys I don't know much about the minor leaguers, why is Stanton so great?
You don't know much about the Marlins either I take it! :thumbdown
HA why is Stanton so great? Well Cuz he is ok! He's as close to a can't miss prospect as there is! Much like Miguel Cabrera he's a head of the game at his age, and is projected to put up Cabrera like numbers... You do know who Miguel Cabrera is right? :confused
Not sure exactly how you define "can't-miss", but that's not an accurate statement. While I'm on the bandwagon, his K-rates are high enough to warrant a hesitation in calling him a can't-miss prospect. That said, you can't ignore the scouting reports, numbers, and impressive raw footage of Giancarlo Cruz-Michael Stanton.

The Marlins are giving me an ulcer. Meh!
Like we need another pinch hitter? Okay, so the FO is in love with Boni and it's obvious, unless he tweaks something, that the dude is not coming out of the line up. We get it, fine. I'll just try to go to my happy place when I see him in the line up.
BUT... Uggs is up and down. Cantu is having his own issues (I think dudeman is exhausted cause he's been playing since the WBC.).
Anyway, Plug Gaby at 3rd for a few games.
Bring BC to play right,
Herms at left,
CC at second and
Gload/Helms at 1st.
I realize it's a psychotic but, at this point in time, I really don't care. Uggs, if you stick to statistics, isn't going to have a good second half. (You never know but...let's stick with what we know), Boni, I don't have a problem with him, I think he could be pretty alright but, what's the point for all of that speed if you can't get on base and once you do, you get caught stealing? I could totally excuse his errors at third if he would just produce offensively a bit more. I am wondering when his love fest will end? Perhaps in spring training when he still doesn't produce?
And Cantu, I think, needs a bit of a break.
As for our batting issues how many people think it's the batting coach? I realize he's got a lot to deal with considering that our crew, this year, doens't seem to make adjustments. But, seriously, how many called three strikes are you gonna let pass by?
Awesome.

theres no way that you can say halladay isnt better than lincecum. timmy is absolutely nasty but putting up numbers like that in the al east is unreal
English: Tim Linecum is better than Roy Halladay
Spanish*: Tim Lincecum es mejor que Roy Halladay
German*: Tim Lincecum ist besser als Roy Halladay
**Translations may be somewhat off
I giggled.
Well done.
Btdubs , Miller23, check out Dan Haren's 1st half/2nd half splits if you haven't already. They're pretty stunning.
-
Tim gives short guys like me hope.
And Bartolo Colon gives guys like me hope
If Ray King were white, he'd give guys like me hope.
-
We need several consistant bats, and an entire consistant pitching staff (with the exception of Josh Johnson).
If the Marlins are not going to upgrade salaries until after 2012, then they also need a coaching staff that can train the majority of these should-be-minor-leaguers.
Joe Girardi was the answer.
:notworthy
-
Wonderful. I laughed out loud for a legitimate 10 seconds+.
-
I wanted to see Gaby. Maybe Boni will pull a groin muscle and Gaby will replace him.
That would be nice...or if he fell off the face of the Earth I wouldn't be too disappointed. I love being cynical in game threads.
Thanks not cynical........
And sorry Holly, I'm sure you're kidding, but I'm not a fan of rooting for injuries (at least not to my own players). But you're an awesome fan, so you get mucho leeway :cool

woah woah woah. halladay = best pitcher in baseball no doubt
Lincecum and Johan would like to have words with you.
first off Johan is maybe 5th this year.
Lincecum is good but still not the best pitcher in the Nl (Haren)
halladay has a 2.73 ERA in the hardest division in baseball. he faces the yankees, tampa and red sox who are the 3 best hitting teams in the majors more than anyone.
he has the most CG out of any active pitcher since 2005 which helps your bullpen become better. not to mention that burnett said he learned more from halladay pkaying in toronto than he learned from any of his coaches.
johan isnt even on the same level this year halladay or lincecum.
i think best pitcher in NL= Haren AL= Halladay and overall halladay.
Halladay has given up 2 HR the whole year and has played against the redsox, yankees, and tampa 5 times this year.
Just be aware that Haren has HORRIFIC 1st half/2nd half splits for a few year going now. Like 200+ OPS difference horrific.
-
What they need to do is shake up the team, get rid of pitching and hitting coaches, even the manager and stop the expressway between aaa and the majors.

If 'Then make this happen SAMPSON!!!' isn't my favorite thing ever posted on this board, it's top 5.
I missed this. Amazing stuff. Sean Flynn, make it happen!
-
WHen I first saw the topic for this thread I thought I was on a Seinfeld site... I'd like to see "anything" done to improve the team at this point, find something that works and run with it
I got you :lol
-
Whoa. Put Miller23 on suicide watch? j/k
It would make more sense if we indeed do not need a 5th starter for a while.
-
Not surprising, though I don't see us being sellers at all, as with their current value only Ross and Cantu are worth selling.
why cantu? he hasnt done much since the end of april
Cantu has hit .316/.346/.441 since June 1st. May was his only bad month.
A .787 OPS is not exactly killing it for a 1st baseman, though. I do think teams would be interested if he were dangled, though.

Freddi Made 2 bad moves last night.
One was walking Paul f***ing Bako to face Jayson Werth.
The other was not bunting with Cantu in the 9th with Bonifacio at 2nd and Hanley at 1st.
I think Bonifacio bunted on his own with 2 outs there.
No, not bunting there is actually a good move.
How do you figure? You win in the 9th not the 12th. We lost, therefore, it was a stupid move! Cantu is struggling right now, his average isn't that good, yeah he has one of the highest percentages on the team with RISP but so what. He didn't get the job done because only a base hit in that situation would have scored that run. Stupid Move.
I really hope this is a joke. Also, Cantu is batting .285, the 2nd highest average on the team behind Hanley amongst regulars, FWIW.
I really hope you aren't serious and watched the game, we really did lose. So what if Cantu is hitting .285, your proud of that? I can see your point of expecting Cantu to drive in the winning run but small ball in that situation seems more logical. With a guy on third there are many more ways to score. He didn't get the hit or move the runners therefore stupid move (repeated a thousand times).
I give up. Maybe Admin can sticky a post on logic. Just because there was an undesired result, it doesn't mean the actions leading up to it were stupid. It's amazing that you keep pressing this ("a thousand times") as if its an even remotely valid form of reasoning.
And I'm not positive that bunting isn't indeed the right play. Also, I just mentioned Cantu's average, FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH (FWIW). Didn't say it's amazing, just wanted to make sure the data was out there so no one was making any assumptions otherwise.

Who are you going to replace Fredi with? Valentine?
Right now I'd frikkin' replace Fredi with those eyeballs from the Geico ads
If you told Loria it had something to do with saving money he'd be all for it.
Excellent sequence :thumbup

What the f*** Ruiz, you can't put your goddamn hands on the ump. Throw them both the f*** out!

Pathetic attempt at hitting. Nice work, boys. :banghead
Do you think the Marlins ever considered the switch
in Miami Marlins
Posted
Reminds me of the times people complained that there were no blacks on the Marlins.
Cuz, you know, Hanley's skin doesn't count.
Would explain why Maybin got sent down and Bonifacio didn't though at the start of the year :mis2
.....also why we got rid of Reggie Abercrombie and Preston Wilson.
