  1. Not sure why the other one got locked, but how bout this juicy news nugget: The Marlins might have interest in Pirates first baseman Ike Davis, Andy Martino of the New York Daily News writes. The Marlins already have another former Pirates first baseman, Garrett Jones, under contract for 2015, but Jones is 33 and coming off a second consecutive near-replacement-level season. The Pirates, meanwhile, may wantPedro Alvarez (who suffered from serious throwing issues at third base in 2014) to play first in 2015, which would leave nowhere for Davis, particularly since he and Also, how many posts before this thread turns into a wild card vs the board match?
  2. I think this is the first time someone's said Spike's got pussy..... That is all. Wait spike gets pussy or has one or both? I am confused.
  3. oh baseball is still happening?
  4. Loria sent scouts on a trip. That's as after him as we went. Shit i want to be one of loria's scouts. Get paid to go everywhere, but never have to actually do anything
  5. Nah, I don't think so. Yes, I really think they do. Exhibit A) Last 3 seasons
  6. Well, I don't think any of these Cuban players really fit besides Abreu, who they made some kind of a push for. I think they're in a position right now where Cuban players are seen (correctly or incorrectly) as safer bets than before. Couple that with how close the team is to contending and the fact that Fernandez doesn't project to be a star (so shouldn't be as expensive), and I think you've got a situation in which the Marlins have a real shot. But they think Solano is a real mlb 2b....
  7. I think the Marlins will make a real push for this guy if he's projected to be above average. And two Jose Fernandez's on this team would be funny. I hope one of them has a middle name. What makes you think they'll make a push (I really hope they do on him)? They haven't made a real push for any of these cuban guys and the payroll next year is only projected to be $60m
  8. We should really sign this guy!!! Oh wait Donovan Solano + Loria.. FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that Cuban second baseman Jose Fernandez has defected and is seeking a contract in MLB. Ben Badler of Baseball America reported Tuesday that Fernandez had gone missing from his team, with defection a distinct possibility, so the mystery is now solved. One of the top players in Cuba, the 26-year-old batted .326/.482/.456 during the 2013-14 season with Matanzas. He figures to generate a lot of interest once he's cleared to sign with a team. PS sorry for the new thread but couldn't resist with a name like his
  9. No. Stay on topic. Right now the conversation is: EOVALDI vs KOEHLER : Will they ever become the next Mark Redman? I never realized how bizarre Redman's career was. He had one respectable year in his entire MLB career (9 years) and that was with the 2003 marlins.
  10. See, I'm in the group that says Wild Card has potential and he shows it every so often. I was actually very surprised to see how similar the Koehler/Eovaldi numbers are. Eovaldi has better overall stuff, and he has a lot more innings, but mostly because Koehler can't seem to get past the sixth safely. That cost us a few games, too. He put his time and effort into this, and personally I'm not going to just throw it out because he's the one that posted it. It was well constructed, and I'm fine with saying that he's got a point. They are rather similar in numbers. Nate just has the edge, IMO, because he has the "stuff" and is 4 years younger, thus he has more time to improve. I agree with Bender which means I sort of agree with WC. ugh.
  11. sabean is the luckiest GM ever.
  12. Lester would do great in our park, but it ain't happening with a 60m payroll.
  13. Ed Lucas: ∞ Adjustments to the league adjusting to him Speaking of which, which adjustment cycle are we in currently?
  14. What the hell is this rays weirdo sending to Admin?!
  15. Escobar was the worst SS in baseball in 2014. Better than being the worst player in all of baseball in 2013 (our dear friend adeiny). I wonder what happened to Escobar defensively last year? Anyone follow the rays? Escobar is a f***head so I'll give adeiny the edge there (I actually find adeiny likable), but besides that I'd much much much rather have escobar as our SS.
  16. To be fair, Adeiny was better than Escobar in 2014. No doubt about it.
  17. And everything you just wrote was and still is a theory and opinion except for the part about Escobar declining the option to play third base and being dealt soon after because of it. The only FACT is he was traded because he did not want to play third base. Whether or not it's the real reason we will never know, but that is the reason given by the source itself. If that is the reason why he was traded, it just makes the front office look even stupider because escobar > adeiny at SS by a mile
  18. Here's the article WC is referring to: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fish_bytes/2012/12/yunel-escobar-to-rays-for-minor-league-infielder.html Makes you wonder about the marlins scouting office wanting to move Escobar and his 3.9 2013 SS WAR for the worst position player in baseball in 2013.
  19. If he was traded for not being willing to play third base, then why the hell didn't we try and get a third baseman back for him? Placido. Polanco.
  20. TBH I thought they traded escobar because of his price tag + they actually did/still do think Adeiny is a perennial all star + they used to like deitrich.
  21. There's a lot to like about Hech when you watch him play. The ONLY reason he rates so badly is range to the left. If he had average range his left, he would immediately be one of the better SS in baseball. But he doesn't and a lot of balls go to his left so instead he's one of the worst SS in baseball.
