  1. Hello again folks. You might remember me. I'd just like to sincerely thank the person who so kindly ratted me out when I tried to warn you about this debacle. You have freed me from the obligation of having to represent the hands down worst identity in the history of baseball. I do hope you enjoy the unholy marriage of the W Hotel, Dolphin Stadium logo and the Oklahoma City Thunder colors. Cheers.
  2. Just another observation on the subject of the team's colors in the future. Take a look and the MLB.com home page and put your mouse over the "MLB Sites" link at the top to see all the teams. Look at that. 30 Teams and only 4 main colors. Blue, Black, Red and Green(Kudos to Oakland for being different). I give you black doesn't really count but look at how bland that list looks. Baseball uniforms are boring enough, the last thing we need is the Marlins likely becoming another primarily blue team, especially when they now have one of few truly unique color schemes in the majors. Ideally I'd love to see an outlandish, 70s A's style colored alternate jersey(teal of course), but I'd settle for the '97 look, only updated and with the new Miami name. Right now we are basically a grayscale team, any color on the uniforms is tough to see unless your standing right next to a player. I really hope the design firm Loria hires to come up with the new logos and uniforms smacks some sense into him and somehow convinces him to keep the teal/black combo, and for his sake before they install 36,000 blue seats in the ballpark. Unless blue is the primary color of the team, and I hope it isn't, those seats will act just like the orange ones at Sun Life, they'll just make poor crowds look worse. Much like the green seats in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Arizona, etc. etc. Totally agree with you but I'm afraid we're in the minority. Everything's grey and black now. Boredom. I don't think we're in the minority, I just don't think most fans realize the colors are going to change. Even if some people don't like teal and black, you can't argue that it's unique. One of the main reasons for having colors and logos and such is to build a brand identity within the community, and you don't do that by looking like everyone else, especially in a community like ours that is filled with fans from everywhere else, who wear gear from everywhere else. When anyone outside the Marlins organization(ESPN, FSN, other teams etc.) is trying to represent the Marlins, they use teal, because that is instantly recognizable as "Marlins" when talking baseball. But when you look at a billboard, ad or giveaway made by the Marlins it looks like it should be for the Giants or Orioles because of all the damned orange. It just doesn't make any sense. I'm surprised MLB lets Loria get away with primarily using a color that is only featured on the laces of a baseball in a logo the team rarely if ever uses anymore because it says "Florida" on it. If he likes orange so much he ought to go buy the O's or Giants and let someone who respects the history of this team and it's fans run the Marlins.

Much like the green seats in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Arizona, etc. etc. I think our blue is going to be more on the lighter, aquaish side. Not the royal blue of the other teams. I dunno if anyone else has noticed, but I feel like each season the teams colors on the screen (like the "FSN" in FSNsports) has turned more blue and less teal. Same goes for other teal aspects of the team. I think i'll be happy with a lighter, aqua blue. Not baby though, not a fan of baby blue. I wouldn't be surprised by a light blue of some sort. But the trick will be not looking like the Rays and to a lesser extent Royals. Maybe adopt a blue and green combo of some sort like the Devil Rays had, which I admit I kinda preffered over their current look. Eventually I'll get over it but still whatever the new colors are, unless it's teal and black, I will be disappointed and very very reluctant to purchase any new gear.

  5. It's too bad Andrew Miller isn't here to answer this question. He'll be pretty familiar with these soon enough. Oh snap!
  6. LMAO at the NBA Jam references. Seriously Stanton is a beast right now. 5 HR in 2 Days? Daaaaayyyyyyummmm! That's ridiculous. He'll be patrolling right field at Sun Life before too long.
  7. I hope they have some non-standard concessions. Every other new ballpark seems to have them. The obvious Cuban/Hispanic stuff will be good but also some popular franchises, either inside or surrounding the ballpark would be great. Chipotle or Five Guys anyone? Mmmm I'd much rather drop 8 bucks on a burrito as opposed to the same lame chicken fingers they have at the AAA, BAC and Sun Life.
  8. I didnt think that roof thing would be that wide That is amazing and so exciting. Too bad I'm not going to be here when it opens- moving to Chicago That sucks. Although on the bright side you can now go to Wrigley and annoy Cubs fans like they do to us here lol. Or even better, buy a certain seat in a certain section down the left field line and wear a sweater and headphones
  9. So I will have Season Tickets (partial) for the Twins this year and next year at the new Target Field, I havn't been yet but I will report back once I have had a chance to visit I will have photo's and to share. Then me and my family are on track to move back to South Florida in 2012 in time to get my season tickets for the new Marlins Ballpark! I am really excited about the new Twins park, finally I live near a real ballpark! I have had to drive 4 hours each way to go see the Marlins at Miller Park the last 5 years and before that the only parks I lived near were Pro Player / Metrodome....both Football stadiums hosting baseball. Cool! See you in 2012! Target Field looks great, such an upgrade over the Metrodome IMO. Also, I dig that avatar(I designed it).
  10. Great win, and (another) great comeback series victory as well. Gotta give to Danny over Nate, only slightly, because of the way he is hitting right now(he's leading the everyday players in BA right now, who would have thought that? lol). And kudos to Cogs for giving his all in LF even though he's in bizarro world at the plate. With iffy starting pitching to start the year and an uncertain bullpen, we've somehow managed to not lose a series(shoulda swept the Reds though). Get Cogs straightened out at the plate and get Sanchez, or someone else, to hold down the 5 spot in the rotation, and things look real promising. On Baseball Tonight a few minutes ago Bobby Valentine called an "all Florida World Series" for this year. Needless to say I'm down for that!
  11. Hmm I've seen the little ads on the Herald website for that but never tried it. What exactly is it? Just news and stuff? Cause MLB AtBat keeps me pretty up to date and the radio/gamecast ability is excellent. Now if they would only get rid of the ridiculous blackout restrictions so I could watch all the games wherever I am...
  12. problem will be only season ticket holder will be enjoy the ballpark not one who buy online or walkin because what i hear first season will be sellout of all games No way they sell 36,000 full season tix. No team had does that, in any city, in any ballpark, ever. The first year may very well sell out but it will be with season tix AND online and walk up sales. If ticketing is similar to Sun Life they won't even sell full season plans in some sections(Fish Tank equivalent). I'm pretty sure every Marlins fan in South Florida will be able to enjoy at least 5-10 games if they want in that first year.
  13. Cantu for the win! Sanchez looked pretty good except that one inning. Bullpen is still iffy as hell but I think we have the offense to compete regardless. With some halfway competent defense moving forward we could be a real threat. In honor of Jorge's great series me and my bro went to Ole' Ole' for dinner after the game. They played his walkup music over the radio and we were all like "YES!" lol
  14. I'm not opposed to expansion, however I don't think it's necessary right now. The more realistic scenario is that a team like the A's or Rays, one without a new ballpark deal, ends up moving. As a soccer fan in South Florida though the concept of teams relocating and/or folding is painful and for the sake of the fans I don't like to see it happen anywhere. Heck I got sick to my stomach when just the idea of the Marlins being contracted or moving was brought up in the last decade. I'm happy for DC, I've been to the ballpark there and it's great, but I still kinda miss the Expos and feel very sorry for the fans they did have in Montréal... As far as the "uneven" leagues, ideally I'd like to see MLB ditch the antiquated division-based scheduling(and seeding for the postseason) system and move to a fully balanced, interleague schedule. Eliminate the DH, add 12 games to the schedule and play 3 at home and 3 away versus every other team in the league for 174 games and have the top 8 make the playoffs. Schedule some double headers and expand the roster and it could be done easily, and make for a much more competitive league. Of course, baseball desperately clings to tradition like no other sport so I doubt that ever happens. I'm tired of the damn Phillies, Mets, Braves and Expos/Nats. I want to see the Mariners, A's, Yankees and Sox come to town ever year(and lose)!
  15. Other: the padding that fell off of the RF wall. Don't worry, I'm sure that if doesn't work and isn't deemed worthy of repair, they'll just slap an ad over it(see Teal Tower(R.I.P)) lol. What a game! Damn Fredi looks good with that Paulino move, eh? Also how about That wacky Badenhop inning? Never seen anything like that in my life. Basically the same play 3 times in a row and he gets it right on #3 lol.
  16. Awesome! Way more in depth look at the progress now! And that thing in center has to be the home run "feature". Man I hope that changes from the concept the papers posted a few months back... Also, for those wondering, I've circled what I believe to be home plate. If you zoom in on the panorama it's the little concrete pad that's roped off with the surveying equipment. I read somewhere that everything in the ballpark is measured from that point.
  17. Actually it should be 159 games, considering the 3 "home" games in Puerto Rico. It will probably shrink again if games in 2011 move to PR as well.
  18. Yes MLB.TV is great from what I've heard. And if you have a 3G iPhone, man is the At Bat app sweet. I have the 3GS and from watching the free games offered, it's sick. Minimal, if any, lag and great video and sound quality. I just wish there were no local blackouts, cause I'd buy the package in a second. So many times last season I was wishing I could watch the game while I was i the car or at school etc. If being able to watch on the go is important to you, I'd totally for for MLB.TV.
  19. Teal may not be a "mass appeal" color, but the Marlins aren't a mass appeal team. And that's the problem. They don't need to be "mass appeal". They need to appeal to fans in South Florida. People will buy stuff regardless of what color it is. I'm not saying they need to sell all teal shirts and caps, obviously people wouldn't buy a lot of that because the only place you'd probably wear it is the ballpark. But teal is a South Florida color and it works well. The look they had from 97-2002, black first, teal second, is the perfect mix to give the team a local flavor without going over the top with color. Bottom line is if the team is respectable on the field, people will support the team and buy stuff. Heck, the Dolphins always rank near the top in nationwide NFL merch sales and they haven't been a powerhouse team in quite some time. And their aqua/orange combo about as unusual and niche as you can get. They will most likely become marlins fans (or they are grounded). Haha nice. I agree I'll still love the team, and probably buy the gear whatever it looks like. But I obviously love my teal and if it changes, I will always long for the day it returns.
  20. I like the teal, but think it should go. They need to make all aspects of this team more attractive to new fans. Teal is just not one of those mass appeal colors. And although I will wear teal in 2012 and beyond, I completely agree and understand their choice to get rid of it. I'm sorry but I don't think the colors are what have been putting fans off. Try 90º heat and killer humidity, rain on a regular basis and two post-championship fire sales. That and a market filled with people from out of town who were already supporting other teams when the Fish came into existence. But we all know that already. Teal may not be a "mass appeal" color, but the Marlins aren't a mass appeal team. There's plenty of blue, red, orange, etc. in baseball. There is only one teal and black. If they asked season ticket holders and other fans what they thought, and more people said lose the teal than said keep it, fine, I could live with the change. But to not consult the customer at all and then erase a part of a team's, and community's, identity is wrong. More often than not, when teams rebrand they consult their fans via market research. I have a feeling the Marlins new look is simply gonna be Jeffrey's way or the highway, and that's an unsettling scenario. Teal is likely going away simply because he doesn't like the color. Mr. Loria may legally own this team, but we do too. There are tens of thousands of South Floridians who have invested more emotionally in this team then he ever will, and we're the ones buying the tickets. He's in this to make money. He wasn't there when I and many other South Florida kids were seeing their first MLB game at Joe Robbie Stadium in 1993. He wasn't there in 1997 when this town was painted teal and black in honor of our champions. He got us a ballpark, and cemented the future of baseball in South Florida for decades to come, and I'm forever grateful for that. I just hope that future lasts long enough for someone else to step in and correct whatever mistakes he has made by the end of his tenure as owner. I'm all for a change when something is bad. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Marlins colors, never has been, and I don't intend to let the whims of the team owner take them away without a fight.
  21. I'd rather have a bad player that I like than a bad player that I dont. Amen to that. The D-Train is still one of my favorite all time players. Whether he's having a good or bad game/season, that guy is 110% effort. If he does get released by the Tigers I'd love to see the Fish offer him a deal. Give him a minor league deal, hand him the ball and say "get out there and have fun". Who knows?
  22. quick question: I see on the webcam that they are building the outline for the seats with the roof stabililzing pole/tower thing in the middle. Will that be in the way of seats or will they make that towards the back so that it doesnt get in anybody's view point? They will be somewhere in the concourse, but not in the way of any seats: It might get in the way of the last few seats in that one section of the upper deck behind home plate, but they have ben pretty insistent that there "won't be a bad seat in the house". I think the columns in the top rendering are the 3rd and 4th from the left when your looking on the webcam.
  23. Anyone else scared of what that area will be like after we win the next ws? It will get CRAZY. Dude it's gonna be freakin nuts. Especially with the restaurants/bars that will be located on the outside of the parking structures. Although I fully expect that after the NEXT World Series, 65,000 fans will be pouring out of Sun Life and onto the streets . Hey, 6th year after a fire sale is coming up: 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, 03; 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11! Let's save the party in Little Havana for ring number 4, and close out the Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Dolphins/Dolphin/Land Shark/Sun Life stadium era with a bang!
  24. Kevin Rudolf is pretty cool. The MJ tribute sounds interesting, I guess. But Nelly? Seriously? I'd rather save my money and go see the Fish in Atlanta over the summer. They need to get some better acts, honestly. It's always the same people. What do you expect? It's always gonna be relative has-beens and niche acts. "Better acts" cost money, a lot more than they would bring in for one night. At least Nelly has some name recognition. I usually have never heard of 99% of the acts. The most relevant act they've ever had was probably Flo Rida opening up last year, and that's only because they probably just got lucky and between the time they signed him and when the game was, he came out with one of the biggest hits of the year. I've never been keen on the whole Super Saturday thing. I've never gone to a game specifically for it. I stayed for a few Blues Traveler and Paul Rogers songs and that's it. I've seen my share of Willy Chirino and KC and the Sunshine Band nights and yeah no thanks lol. I go for the giveaways personally(floppy hats and t-shirts FTW!). I'm seeing Paul McCartney at the stadium the week before opening day anyway, so I'm set on concerts for a while .
  25. are any of our games going to be televised nationally via ESPN or FOX? Yes. 3 on Fox, 1 on ESPN2: ESPN2: June 28 vs. Mets(Puerto Rico) FOX: June 5 @ Mets, July 3 @ Atlanta, August 28 @ Atlanta
