It's apples to oranges. Some people just want to play the games and make trades. Things like upgrading the ballpark and hiring staff is too much. Games have become so complicated in the last 10 or so years.

This is off topic, but I bought Borderlands 3 to play with a friend and lasted about 3 hours before telling him I just couldn't. Whatever happened to just progressing? Everything is about upgrades, customization, and always the rpg elements. Heck, even RTTS.... What the hell are player relationships? Why?

I agree franchise mode can be cumbersome for novice players. However, overall I do think the game is an improvement over recent editions and Jazz being on the cover, at least for me, makes it cool. I know that’s random haha. But TBH I only have 3 games on my PS4 console. GTA 5, FIFA 23, and MLB 23. That’s it. All fun games in their own right. But hopefully everyone who got MLB 23 is enjoying their gaming experience like me lol… u can build some pretty sick squads in franchise tho. I have a franchise mode with the marlins and was able to make several big acquisitions, including Ohtani. But RTTS I’d be curious to try. Idk how good it is compared to franchise mode or past RTTS, but it shouldn’t be too different.

I miss Season mode which was old school simple seasons as opposed to the too deep franchise mode. Can't believe they got rid of that.

I respectfully disagree that franchise mode is too deep. I like that you can basically simulate or play as far into the future as you would like.  I don’t think there should be like an 80 year limit like there is with NBA 2k Franchise Mode.

Usually, I buy MLB The Show every year (PS4) but last year I did not. With an individual Marlins player being on the cover of a baseball video game for the first time (Jazz), IMO IK I’m gunna sound bias, but this is the best MLB the Show they have made in years. Obviously I have a Marlins franchise mode but I fast forwarded (simulated) to year 4 after the first GM contract is renewed. I traded for Ohtani, still have Jazz and Alcantara, and with extra sponsorship money, acquired Mookie Betts and Manny Machado.

As for the gameplay itself, I don’t notice much of a difference in pitching, but oh boy, do I notice it with hitting. It feels much smoother now when you are batting in MLB 23 The Show. I like hitting with certain players obviously, like Jazz and Ohtani (Ohtani is a cheat code because of his two way status; had to acquire him.)

I used to play RTTS more, but that’s probably my biggest criticism of the game for this edition, as with the more recent ones. The best Road to the Show was MLB 07, when David Wright was on the cover. Yes, you didn’t have the type of interactions like in the dugout and clubhouse, but it was MUCH easier to earn higher attributes for your RTTS player.

Overall, while I may dislike RTTS for MLB 23, the fact that Jazz is on the cover, hitting is easier, and Ohtani is basically a cheat code, this is one of the more memorable games I have owned and I am very happy I have it.

I’m sure Jazz being on the cover is cool for all of the fans as well. 👍

I think everyone agrees with this.

There have been past fumbles but the Marlins are setting up for the next step and are in a solid position to improve with the right moves but it will take a succession of moves in total.

The Sandy extension and the signing of Garcia are great signs even if you aren't enamored with Garcia (in the sense that they actually paid a free agent real money and apparently aren't done yet) so I think we're all anxious to at least see what's next and yes ultimately this is about what happens with the 2022 team.

See but right now I don’t think it’s fair for people to look at past fumbles? And are they looking at past fumbles from an on the field standpoint or off? I’m perplexed. To your point though what moves that are made next need to be made with the upmost importance.

And you're consistent in your biased hate towards them.

I defend them when I think they need it and with what I think are valid reasons. I rip them when I need to as well and also with what I think are valid reasons. It's not a blind thing either way.

With that said, not sure how this is about me defending them, I'm telling you they messed up huge with Marte and with Duvall.

I'm just saying Jeter has zero reason to publicly address that now. The only thing Jeter has to address and focus on now is 2022, not 2021.

Respectfully I see the points of both Das Texan and Silver Bullet. I’m in the middle. I believe it is a great sign that the Marlins extended Alcantara and I personally love the Garcia signing. But ultimately, at the end of the day, this is a results based business. I think that we need to see what happens with the Marlins next year and go from there. I think that’s fair. But I do think the Marlins need to do a bit more this off-season, but what specifically is dependent upon how the front office feels and more or less us as fans too.

I am going to add some moves to this. For the CF sign Marte. For the SS sign Correa (really could be any of the star SS). Trade for Wilson Contreras. Sign Raisel Iglesias for closer. Sign Tucker Barnhart for backup catcher if the Reds buyout (Manny Piña if not). Sign Josh Harrison to fill out the bench. Extend Sandy. Sign Mel to a lifetime contract.

Fill in Marte, Correa, and Conreras for the starters above.

    Bench of:

    Miggy Ro / Lewin
    DLC
    Josh Harrison
    Barnhart / Piña

    Rotation:

    Sandy
    Rogers
    Pablo
    Luzardo
    Cabrera / Sanchez

    Bullpen:

    Elieser
    Bender (SU)
    Floro (SU)
    Bleier
    Okert
    Thompson
    Iglesias (CL)
    Bass

You make all these moves and it is a grand slam offseason. I would be shocked if they did accomplish all of this. Don't get your hopes up, but we shall see.

I think Sherman would sweat at the bill if this happened 😭

I really want a star SS. And Marte as well will be tough.

I mean... I've been here since '95. Loyal. Every year, we think "is this the year they actually spend". If any year is the year, this is it. Best rotation in baseball opening day. Bring back Marte. Spend money on a third baseman. Spend money on a catcher. It's not even asking for much. Is this the year?

    No. Who are we kidding

Didn’t Wayne technically spend in 96-97 for that team even though he blew it up right after? Nevertheless. I’m an optimist at ❤️. I believe Marlins payroll will be close to $100 million. Resign Marte. Possibly go after a big fish and a decent catcher. They have the pitching depth already. Maybe make one big move trade wise.

Big market teams won two-thirds of the bidding wars and the small market teams won the rest of that, I think it's a fair request. I mean I'm only request the Marlins to win at least one bidding war and not three.

Let’s get to the negotiating table first 😂

  8. 1 hour ago, rmc523 said:

Maybe.....hopefully.  If 40M total is all they're spending, there's no hope lol.

I don't see them blowing out the farm they've built to facilitate trades for everything we'd need either.

So what’s the move then? If you don’t want to spend money in FA or make trades to make the team better, what are you doing, Marlins? 😂 bottom line is team needs to get better with the resources that they have. The Rays are looking to possibly relocate for god sakes and they consistently have a 90 win team with attendance almost as bad as ours? Again no titles for Tampa Bay Rays, but they have the “secret sauce” as Barry Jackson put it to stay competitive without spending money. I will always love the Marlins, but I don’t think fans will continue investing their 💸 on an annual basis with the Marlins if they never put a good faith effort to spend on top free agents or work out solid extensions. Look at the Braves extension with Acuna. 🥜 sorry for the Ronald Reference guys but I’m Just Saying trying to speak facts

Is this really necessary?  Especially "loser" Marlin fans?

For me, I've been pretty clear that I'm not wasting 3+ hours a night on the games they've been playing for a couple of months now - it's not worth watching.  Guess that makes me a "loser".

I've been watching Inter Miami games - they'd been playing better recently until the last 2 games....though last night's it's hard when you have 2 starting defenders out.

I love the Marlins but Heat signed Kyle Lowry, P.J Tucker, and a Morris Bro, while Panthers also made moves this off-season in hopes of winning a Stanley Cup (Sam Reinhardt, re signed Duke). It’s also football season now.  Marlins what are you doing? 🧐 and Corey Dickerson/Adam Duvall not cutting the cake 🎂 . Get Wilson Contreras. Or Correa. A ️. Don’t say $$$. Every other team here makes it work.

I loved this quote about Derek Jeter being booed in NY:

For all the frustrations about Jeter and the Marlins this season I'm so glad to have that guy as our leader with his mindset as far as winning and playing the game right being the bottom line. I genuinely cannot imagine the Marlins doing anything like this under Jeter.

I'm no Mets fan but Steve Cohen has to put his foot down immediately and change the attitudes there. He has a chance to really change the culture around the Mets and players like Baez need to be held accountable and preferably removed from the organization entirely.

And I feel bad for Luis Rojas on this one. Not sure how well he can handle this with his inexperience. Not that he can't but I'm saying it's not like Dusty Baker walking into the clubhouse putting a stop to this with one flick of a toothpick. Rojas may have some serious work to do here, as if he doesn't have enough to worry about with the on field issues.

Leadership can only take Jeter so far. To be fair, what has he actually done as a positive BESIDES improve the farm system with amazing pitching depth that we as the fan base can point to as achievable success on the major league level, whether it be statistically or financially. I know some fans are not too interested in the business of sports, but it plays an integral role as the Marlins’ finances are more barren then other clubs, even with a new tv deal and naming rights deal. Marlins aren’t signing any $100-$200 million dollar contracts this winter, which is fine, but they need to make sound moves. Not including shortened 2020, in 17,18,19, and 21, Marlins didn’t do shit. Yes, players share blame, but ultimately, I believe it’s on Jeter for not establishing enough of a winning culture. I also am waiting to see when the Marlins are gunna ask the city to pay for improvements and maintenance of the stadium in the future as a “covid favor” for using the site as a testing facility/vaccination center. Just a thought. But hitters should be priority #1 in the off-season. High OBP guys for the cheap. Moneyball style if u have to. Just please have a good 162 for once 🙏🏼 If Sixto can hopefully come back at some point and we have better hitting depth with our current pitching depth, then MAYBE we can make an actual postseason push. Fair or foul? (no pun intended lol)

the Mets situation is straight comedy 😂

    LOVE IT.

    So much overdue.

Union will be ALL IN FOR THIS I feel.

You still have whats an effective soft cap and a hard floor.

    Hell fucking yes.

With as much national revenue as these teams get, if they cant turn a profit on a 100 mil payroll they are fucking stupid.

Though I'd also love to see them force some better conditions for the minor leaguers.  That is even more overdue and players are jackasses for not mandating it out of tradition basically.

The Marlins payroll total is about $58 million according to Spotrac. I wouldn’t mind an 80 million floor at a minimum. No rebuilding designation. No waiver. Just a floor. And have the luxury tax be $190 million. No Hard Cap. Teams can pay $80 million a year, plus additional money for players and infrastructure in Minor League Baseball.

  12. This would obviously have huge implications for the Marlins and all involved. I wouldn’t mind this. A luxury tax threshold is not technically a salary cap, as teams can pay a certain amount in monetary penalties if they go over the luxury tax. This IMO promotes more competitive spending in MLB, but still keeps the idea of a free market league without a cap (still would be only league in US without a hard cap I believe). Curious to hear other opinions on this.

If he continues to hit like this, he will be a starter.

I really like Lewis Brinson because he is a local guy who grew up watching the team. I feel like he wants to be here. And Marlins don’t have to pay him a lot. Idk I say for 22 he’s fine as a 4th OF but Starter? Not so sure. Definitely want him as the bench OF spot.

Fair enough if they actually do that. I think Mish’s tweets on the subject made some have expectations this week. My only problem is that we saw them do virtually nothing last offseason when most of us said they needed to. Now we are waiting for this coming offseason. Do we call them out if they do nothing at that time. Or do we then bury our heads in the sand and say “next offseason is the time!”?

TBH we still don’t know how bad the Marlins got fucked by COVID, the true losses won’t be able to be accurately measured for years for sports teams. However, I believe the Marlins have to operate with some urgency this off-season. They need at least one outside hitter coming in. What they currently have isn’t enough. Now, granted, COVID and the upcoming CBA negotiations can change things quickly. But in the first year of a new tv deal and stadium deal, the Marlins should have no excuse not to at least spend a little bit. If they really pinch their pennies this off-season, ownership needs to take a good hard look in the mirror and ask “how long can we keep doing this and achieving these kind of results?”

Damn just missed 5 innings but still an amazing performance! Pitching rotation possibly next year with him, Luzardo fully healthy, Sixto fully healthy, Rogers, Lopez, Sandy, plus other guys waiting like Max Meyer. Scary hours staff 😈 just need to beef 🥩 up the offense a bit. On a random note, Marlins catchers currently have the worst WRC+ of all teams in baseball, so maybe that’s why they got catching depth (Henry, Jackson) at the deadline.

    Curious,

Big G is coming back to Miami this weekend, and I believe it might be his first time back down with fans.

How will you guys treat him before his first at bat?

I'd love to see him get a standing ovation from the crowd. Sucks he's no longer a Marlin- even if you guys think his contract wasn't worth it. As a player and as a member of the community- he represented us well. Him being overpaid should have been irrelevant as a Face of the Franchise.

I might try to make it out for Fridays game myself.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe Big G came back in 2018 to then Marlins Park. But he will probably get a standing O. Franchise’s HR leader, probably will be for awhile 😄

Competence in Jeter cannot be solely measured based on getting what he needs from the FO or else he can blame the franchise, the fan base etc.  That would be a cop out because there are other franchises with low fan attendance, low financial output that are successful-Tampa, Oakland quickly comes to mind as consistent success.  So, what would be his argument? " I need a lot of money to be like the Yankees and Red Sox and a packed stadium or don't blame me".  Still does not indicate that Jeter is really interested in winning or not, he may well be, but excuses will not cut it just because he is a HOF'er.

The problem is Marlins fans and Marlins ownership IMO look at “competence” in two totally different avenues. Fans want competence in terms of team success; ownership wants competence in terms of profit$$.

There was no chance he would sign for that. None. I'm pretty sure all of us were disappointed when we didn't make a better offer than the Phillies did after he signed with them because it didn't seem too crazy either. I also would have much rather have spent the money to get JT versus keeping Marte. Barely over 11 per to the best catcher in baseball?

JT was probably worth 15-20 mil per season for 4-5 years. That’s certainly not an overpay I don’t think.

Can anyone explain why you would draft a young player that may end up playing college ball and then you lose him? I don’t get it, I understand you get another pick for it the following year if that happens but why would you want to risk waiting. Why wouldn’t you draft guarantee guys that can come in and make an impact hopefully. Genuinely curious.

Tbh very hard to get behind baseball’s draft compared to basketball or football. This is one of the reasons. Also the fact these prospects won’t make an immediate impact on the pro team like Tua did with the Fins Or Tyler Herro with the Heat. I think Khalil Watson was a great pick, and it seems everyone is happy with the picks, as am I. But it would just stink to hype up a player you took then lose him possibly to college ball again. There should be a rule where once a player declares for the draft, you can’t go back into college ball. Isn’t that how March Madness and CFB works? My b just hella curious also.
