  1. I wouldnt want to fight with a draftee, thats why draftees are usually replacements or non-combatives. In my perfect world, theyd be more national guard/peace keepers. And Juanky, I guess well have to disagree on world views. Your more of the libertarian type while im a blinded liberal who thinks the world can be fixed. HOWEVER, it is EUROPES fault for Africas problems. The Berlin Conference of 1884 drew up a bunch of countries in Africa that mixed clashing ethnic groups, and well, here we are now. I just dont understand how people can sit and realize that there are massive problems in the world, and simply not care.(Im saying this in a grander sense, not to anyone here in particular.)
  2. Im probably going to join once I receive my B.A. Non-combative because I have physical limitations, but ideally I could go to the National War College and receive my M.A. there. Im a pre-Carter Democrat, and I think youll come to see most new Dems are of my mentality, and theres still some Murthas out there. Im VERY much an interventionalist as I imagine you to be Accord. The way I look at it, I want to be in public service one day, and if im gonna make decisions on sending troops somewhere, I better know exactly what it takes/feels to be one.
  3. I love how Capefish is trying to blame Democrats for bringing people into war. Well you know those evil Democrats and their drafts? Well, those men who served under those Presidents ended two world wars and saved the lives of millions of oppressed minorities. In large scale military conflicts, drafts are need. Period. There is not enough man power to fight theaters that take up whole continents. And the Korean and Vietnam Wars, well, in hindsight they accomplished little, but Democrats fought hard to stop the spread of communism and many good men lost their lives to protect our way of life. Plus, most who get drafted, sadly, flee. Carter should have never, ever forgiven those traitors who fled to Canada and saw their countrymen being killed on television. Sure there are notable exceptions to the draft rule, the physically and mentally ill, only childs, people in college, etc, but all others who dodge are a slap in the face to everything this country fights for. And although I dont respect what he did AT ALL, at least Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar, and I dont know if some of you know its significance, but as a Fullbright candidate myself, the Rhodes Scholar is aruably the most prestigious award given to an undergraduate student. Cape, honestly, I am just so tired of the lame partisan politics you play here. Everything is red v blue for you. Respect what Rangel has done for this country and every other Democrat who has publicly served. Whether you agree with them or not, they are patriots and have done ALOT more for the country than your mommas boy ass ever will. As a Democrat, I agree 100% with mandatory military service. If I were President, men from 18-25 are obligated to serve 12 months in non-combative roles, and those who choose to enlist afterwards receive benefits. This would free up enlisted here that are stuck having to do domestic work(Ntl Guard, etc) and thus increasing our troop count. People in America should be aware of what goes on worldwide AND care about it, because there are Sudanese being executed and poor, sick people in North Korea stuck in concentration camps. It is the OBLIGATION of the U.S. to stop this. And Juanky, you said that you dont care much about anything outside of the US, but all these great things we enjoy, well, theyve been protected by soldiers. And we all should help protect what we care most about and spread it to the oppressed. Justr my 2 cents.
  4. Charlie Crist. Am I missing something here? I thought about commenting on that earlier. It didn't make any sense to me. You need to explain Accord, if that's not a problem. It was a joke, and apparently not a very good one at that :mischief2. But on a serious note: Zell Miller. Hah. He's everything the Democrats stand for. 60 years ago. And Flying_Mollusk is exactly right. If I didn't make that clear, thats probably somebody's fault. Maybe even mine. Exactly. Contrary to popular belief on this forum, I don't hate democrats, I only hate the new progressive movement that is the modern democratic party where borderline socialism, high taxes, and restricting the freedom of individual citizens is the modus operandi. Well, Accord, you should know that it is in fact the Blue dogs(people usually like Zell Miller for the most part at least) that are taking back the House, not progressives.
  5. Aside from Vietnam LBJ is one of the BEST Presidents. Come on Futuregm, hes one of the 'worst' to Republicans, but what are you? a DINO? Do you KNOW what your talking about? Im sure Republicans hate him because they hate the whole idea of helping others and granting rights to black people(at that point in history, and thats a DAMN fact!) His civil rights acts, enviornmental acts, the Great Society as a whole, please, are you kidding me FGM? Blacks are free because of this man! He pushed all of JFK's legislation through Congress. In fact, I believe theres books written on him being the best President aside from Vietnam(obviously those come from a left perspective) Do you know what your saying or do you just try to agree with people? And Nixons rhetoric was conservative but his agendas were quite liberal. LBJ is the reason you can go to a restaurant and the party sitting next to you could be a black family. He squashed Gov. Wallaces attempts to keep Albama schools segregated. He and Hubert Humphrey made The Democratic Party the champions of minority rights Look at the drop in umemployment rates, poverty, better living conditions for single mothers, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Society#Civil_rights Have a long, unbiased read at that article and then tell me he wasnt good for the American people who need it most. And, of course, Reagan came and squashed all Great Society Programs. Yay!
  6. Ive always like Lieberman, I am glad he will win, never liked Lamont either. And Bill O'Reilly is awesome. And do you really think Democrats are Communists Accord? :lol
  7. Sounds fine. The administration did the right thing. Not like I dont agree with the Bush doctrine anyway.
  8. Does ANY Jew plan to respond to that?! C'mon! That racist bastard who just posted ahead of me called Jews "liberal fags" Id figure people would get more offended! Accord?! P.S. I love that you have a socialist's quote on your sig Accord. Nice. *thumbup*
  9. I must admit Accord, that NRA life member plaque looks freaking amazing.
  10. LOL, ya'll are funny. Love to use the word elitist huh? :lol Yeah cause im here typing from my laptop drinking starbucks and ill later hop inside my volvo and get another piercing in my ear and then go to a PETA protest, that kind of elitist right? :lol
  11. Juanky, Bush said that Clintons occupation of the Balkans was "misplaced liberalism" Thus I ask that question.
  12. Hey guys, ive been a long time member here and limited poster. Im an INR/Poli Sci major, so I always like to hear peoples opinions on various issues. Just wanted to post some questions and see your answers. Especially interested in hearing Accord, Fox, F_M, etcs thoughts. I have no interest in hearing Capes cause, well, ive never seen a more biased person towards politics. I mean, seriously, Harris over Nelson? lol. For conservatives/Republicans 1.) If Clinton went into Iraq, how would you feel about this war? 2.) Wouldnt you agree that occupation of a foreign nation, spreading democray and capitalism is actually a liberal idea?(That is liberal international theory, btw) So if some of you are SO against Liberalism, why support the war? 3.) Arent you the LEAST bit upset that Bush admitted to lying bout the War in Iraq, saying 9/11 had nothing to do with it? Thus, isint at least an investigation important? 4.) Isint it very unfair to call Democrats un-American? Considering there are over 50 veterans running for office/re-election this year as Dems. Arent men like Murtha,Clark, Kerry, etc who have fought for our nation really patriots? For Accord in specific(or any soldier/veteran/anyone) Would you support in 2008 for example, my personal favorite and PAC leader Wesley Clark, a decorated veteran, moderate, and expierenced in military and international affairs over another non-experienced, christian right Repubnlican like Bush? Or do you simply not vote for Clark because he has the 4th letter in the alphabet after his name?(Im assuming Mccain doesnt win the nomination) For Dems 1.) Wouldnt you agree electing leaders like Pelosi/Dean are making the party unelectable? Arent they out of touch with the everyday American? 2.) Wouldnt you agree that associating with conspiracy theorists/Moveon.org really DO make us(some of us) Un-Americam? 3.) Shouldnt we stop playing politics with National Security? 4.) Would REAL Dems like JFK, LBJ, FDR, Truman be so for enemies rights/soft on war? I mean, did Dems backlash back then to Dresden/internment camps/Vietnam bombings, etc? 5.) Wouldnt you agree that being Patriotic is OUR THING? "Not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you" Im really interested in hearing responses. I am a moderate Democrat, and some day would like to run for office, but I dont see myself as liberal/out of touch/ soft on war at all. In fact, im only very liberal on labor, education, and healthcare. Just interested in everyones imput. I thought I was as neutral as possible.
