  1. They could have gone a number of ways...I'm fine with Rogers. Also, he's Cody Ross' cousin.
  2. Looks like they'll have their choice of pitchers with Baz, Faedo, Hall, and Rogers all available.
  3. https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2017/06/12/china-may-be-lorias-last-chance-to-get-1-3-billion-for-marlins/#51697b302988 The latest from Forbes.
  4. Stanton may be available to pinch hit today and the hope is that he can start on Tuesday. It appears they (and he) got extremely lucky.
  5. You aren't getting a better player who is locked up for less than $15 million a season for 5 more seasons after this one. To me, a player of his caliber on such a friendly contract is far too valuable. I agree that the Marlins need to build up the farm system, but they have plenty of other trade chips to use to accomplish that.
  6. Couldn't disagree with this more. Yes, this franchise needs to add more talent, but trading Yelich is not the guy to trade to do it. He has the best contract on the team (and one of the best in baseball). If we are selling, then you can trade Ozuna, Ramos, Phelps, Ziegler (basically any reliever), Straily (or any starter), Gordon, and Prado (I'm just assuming you can't deal Stanton or Chen to dump salary) to replenish the minor league system. Anyway, like many people have said, nothing should be done to re-shape the organization until after a sale. This current FO should not be trading major pieces until there is clarity on who will be in charge of the team going forward.
  7. I don't buy that. A reporter like Barry Jackson, who is the best at what he does in this market, isn't going to run with a story based on word from Loria or other Marlins employees.
  8. The team performance will determine that. If they somehow turn the season around from here and get close to .500 by July, then maybe they try to add. But it's much more likely that they decide to trade pieces and start to rebuild the minor league system. Of course, how far will depend on the sale. If a sale is close to being done by the deadline, maybe they hold off on moving bigger names. If not, they may just trade minor pieces like Koehler, Hech, Straily, or bullpen arms. Either way, the next month or so should determine a lot about the direction that the franchise takes.
  9. Hopefully Locke can give them some of what Straily has and that would give them another decent starter that is good enough to win games. Getting Prado back healthy would be nice too.
  10. Still there is no guarantee Romney gets the team or the role Stewart would play if he does. I just wouldn't want Loria making any long-term decisions. However, I could see them moving some contracts though like Gordon or Prado if the bidders want to lessen the future obligations. Hopefully the team sells soon though...that'd be the biggest positive of all.
  11. I don't want this current FO making any franchise-changing decisions. Moving Koehler or Ramos is one thing, but If a sale is indeed coming this year, I'd hold onto Ozuna and let the next owner decide what to do.
  12. I'm enjoying watching JT Riddle take advantage of his opportunity. He reminds me of Brandon Crawford a bit. If he keeps it up, perhaps they will have at least found a starting SS going forward. So that's a positive.

  14. I don't know...In deals of this size there are always ups and downs and they always take a long time. We seem to be in a down period. But there are still 2 known bidders out there who would welcome news out there that Loria will need to lower the price. Not saying that what is in the article isn't true, just that you have to consider where this info would come from and who would benefit. Also, I'm sure Loria would want it known that he's willing to pull the team off the market. I mean last week, Bloomberg says Loria needs to sell quickly and now this says he isn't a "forced" seller.
  15. And also how Loria needs to sell soon because he's running out of money and can't borrow more.
  16. http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article149112124.html Getting more interesting... Both Jeb/Jeter and Romney/Glavine have the cash to get deals done...and now a mystery 3rd bidder is involved. This says a decision could be coming within the next 10 days.
  17. Well, still an upgrade over Loria at making baseball decisions.
  18. Sure why not? I imagine one super rich guy buying the team would speed up the approval process. Someone just buy the team already, please!
  19. True...but also the other owners aren't dumb. They know Loria and what he is all about. They also know that he's only spending what he is this year because the team is for sale...that hasn't been a secret.
  20. Jeb Bush isn't the money behind the deal, so his net worth is irrelevant. I don't believe that MLB would allow another ownership group here that isn't prepared to spend what is necessary to run a team properly. Manfred has said as much. The other owners don't want to be supporting this franchise any more.
  21. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-05-02/jeter-bush-said-to-consider-adding-rothbaum-to-marlins-bid
  22. I certainly think MLB would prefer Jeter be involved if the bids are similar. The key should be who can operate the team the best though. MLB owes this market that much.
  23. And now a Barry Jackson article on the Romney bid: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article148179419.html
  24. Now it's getting interesting. According to Dave Hyde of the Sun Sentinel, the Romney group has submitted a larger bid than the Bush/Jeter group. Perhaps explaining the Rothbaum news. His column includes a new quote from Manfred: “We have two very strong groups that we believe will have sufficient financial resources to complete the sale and run the team effectively,’’ baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday in a statement to the Sun Sentinel. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-marlins/fl-sp-hyde-marlins-sale-2170502-story.html
