PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) _ Jeromy Burnitz homered for his first hit this spring and the New York Mets beat the Florida Marlins 4-3 Tuesday night.
After the Marlins took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Al Leiter, the Mets tied it in the bottom half on RBI singles by Roberto Alomar and Cliff Floyd off A.J. Burnett.
Burnitz was 0-for-9 in exhibition games before leading off the second with a long home run. He had two hits.
Joe McEwing doubled in the fifth off Justin Wayne to score Rey Sanchez, who had singled, for a 4-2 lead.
The Mets started their probable opening-day lineup.
``I just felt it was a good time to put them out there together and get some momentum going,'' Mets manager Art Howe said. ``I wanted to see how they played together and they played well tonight.''
Burnett threw 48 pitches during his three-inning stint, surrendering five hits while striking out three.
Leiter also went three innings and threw 51 pitches, while walking one and struck out two.
Mets reliever Armando Benitez struck out Ivan Rodriguez and Derrek Lee during one perfect.
Rodriguez and Juan Encarnacion hit RBI singles in the first for Florida.
