Gilbert Arenas gets the NBA Live 08 cover

Gilbert Arenas, Washington Wizards guard, has been chosen as the cover athlete for EA Sports NBA Live 08 according to the Washington Times.

Arenas had a huge season averaging 26.5 PPG, 6 APG, and 4.6 RPG including a flair for dramatic game winning shots. He began to see increased exposure due to his outgoing and unique personality. Unfortunately his season ended early due to a knee injury that caused him to miss out on the playoffs.

Lebron James was the other consideration, however EA ultimately chose to go with Agent Zero?. In the breakdown of the top candidates for the cover posted on Monday, it was clear that Arenas and James stood out from the rest of the pack and it seemed likely that one of them would be chosen.

The official announcement from EA could come as soon as this afternoon.

I just hope they make him yell HIBACHI before he takes shots in the game.

Gilbert Arenas is utterly useless.

He's the posterchild for why PPG is the most brainless, idiot-faced stat.

If he's not taking a disproportionate number of shots, he looks just plain mediocre (see: the US national team).

EA must really be running out of stars to put on the cover. This is more about saving Lebron for his breakout season than it is about Arenas' "outgoing and unique personality."

Agreed, Alky.

Live has never put the best guys on the cover, or at least when they did put studs on (Wade, Garnett, Duncan, Kidd) it wasn't in/after their best season.

This is the franchise that has allowed Glen Richmond, Tim Hardaway (I always liked Tim but c'mon), and Antonie Walker on their covers. They also put guys in the Arenas vein like ZOMGVINSANITY and Stevie Franchise.

Nash, LBJ, and Dirk would easily have been better choices.

Edit: Apparently Dirk was on the German version of the game last year.

Good, Arenas is awesome. Smart move by EA, as he is one of the more entertaining and popular players in the league.

In hindsight, everybody says stupid things.

Alex Smith was The Fan's favorite player of the 2005 draft.

hey, it was a disappointing season and an even more disappointing season for tate. I had high expectations for that team and it was painfully awful. Hopefully he can catch on with St. Louis. As for AY, he still has another year... so get the shots in while you can.

All in all, that was last year and what i care about now is the nba playoffs.

Frank Gore was my favorite player, Alex Smith was my favorite QB, and considering he is still 22-years-old and made big strides from year one to year two (and now Vernon Davis is healthy), Smith may still very well turn out to be a stud.
