Catcher should be Charles Johnson.
I guess it depends on what you're picking them based off. But just based on actual defensive skill, I don't think you can really argue against Pudge.

That said, I find it funny that the entire infield, C included, is exactly the 2003 WS team's IF.

Cool I will post my team but I'm sure I will get criticized by most of the people here because every time I put a post that is what happens. I guess some people think that opinions should be outlawed or something :whistle ....

My team goes like this:

C- Charles Johnson (sorry Pudge you are great, but ZERO errors in '98??? WOW.. guy was sick defensively... His bat was sick too, but not in a good way)

1B- Derek Lee (I ALMOST went with Gregg Colbrunn but Lee's bat put him over the top. He really carried the Fish in September of '03)

2B- Luis Castillo (My favorite Fish of all time and THE BEST 2nd baseman EVER- without question)

SS- Edgar Renteria (A lot of people like Sea Bass but he always had trouble making the routine plays and looked sloppy most of the time- plus he couldn't hit his way out of a gumball machine! Edgar was and still is a great shortstop- and should still be playing shortstop for the fish- if it wasn't for our inept management!)

3B- Mike Lowell (He won a gold glove in '05 thanks to Rolen not playing the full season. He was also the reason the Fish missed the playoffs that year. So his individual achievement is not recognized by me. Anyway, who else have we had? Magadan? Sheffield? Bonilla? Those guys SUCKED... Lowell wins by default. Thank our lucky starts he's GONE!)

LF- Cliff Floyd (The arm, the speed, the athleticism.... Compared to the lumbering, noodle-armed, out-of-shape Jeff Conine, or terrible Moises Alou? Floyd is my 2nd favorite Marlin of all time.)

CF- Chuck Carr (BLAZING speed, a CANNON for an arm, and a diving catch every week is what he was all about. Without question he is hands down the best fielder at ANY position that this team has ever had. Too bad he couldn't get on base enough.)

RF- Gary Sheffield (That catch in '97 series was AWESOME, and he got very good out there and possessed the best tool any right fielder can have- a STRONG throwing arm. His was the strongest of anyone we've ever had in right field- so I'm giving this to Shef.)

P- Kevin Brown (Some of you may not remember him but he was an EXCELLENT fielder and I remember Dave O'Brien commenting on it almost every time he started. An average or slightly above average pitcher but he was flawless in the field. Dontrelle makes some highlight plays once in a blue moon, but too many wild throws to first.)

So there you have it- with my reasons for EVERY selection. So you can't say I don't know the game or what I'm talking about. I'm sure a lot of you agree with my selections cause I didn't just go with the obvious ones that only casual fans would put. Thanks for reading! This is an interesting thread! :thumbup

I hope eventually Cabrera can be showed in the same light, defensively, as Lowell. He is very underrated defensively.

I know that is big shoes to fill. Lowell got robbed by Rolen on name reckognition on more than one occasion for the gold glove.

But as of right now, I would say Cabrera is the best defensive 3B in the NL East.

SS- Edgar Renteria

Renteria, by some defensive metrics(Baseball Prospects), is horrible defensively.
