ARod a Marlin? -- Ken Rosenthal's idea for 2008

Marlins: Obviously, the idea would be feasible only if they got a new ballpark, and even then it might be a stretch. But imagine if the Marlins brought Rodriguez home to Miami as their marketing centerpiece. The city could become a hot baseball market instead of a dormant one.

The Marlins would need to lock up Miguel Cabrera along with Rodriguez; they could play A-Rod at third and Cabrera at first or A-Rod at short and Hanley Ramirez in center. The team then could trade left-hander Dontrelle Willis for a bounty of young talent and become a genuine power in the NL East.
linkage.

We werent the only team named either. The Yanks, Angels and others were. It's just Ken Rosethal's idea so no one needs to get bet out of shape over this article. But I still think we would be a major player for ARod if he opts out and becomes a FA in 2008.

saw this before, I think he is smoking something good. But you never know. I would kill for them to keep miggy long term and sign arod (getting the stadium deal) it would instantly make this team a major draw here and around baseball all together and put us as a favorite every year.

My dad was trying to convince me that this would be a good idea last season.

I just think that when you consider how much money he wants, and what we would have to give up, it's just not worth it.

It would be a good idea if our owner wasn't a cheap bastard. I think it should be more of a priority to lock up Cabs rather then look at overpriced castoffs from other teams. No way should A-rod join the Marlins at the expense of not signing Cabs long term.

I'm sorry but when this organization is too cheap to shell out an extra 700,000 to our best young player b/c they feel "its alot of money" then there is no way we shell out money for A-rod.

If the Marlins can do what Ken Rosenthal says in his article, keep Cabs longterm and A-rod and flip Train, then I'm all for it.

After all these years, you guys are still underestimating Jeff Loria.

First, Pudge. Then, Delgado. Why not A-Rod? Loria will sacrifice two years of paying A-Rod without our new stadium to not only see immediate progress at the box office at Dolphins Stadium, but to have the house packed night in and night out in downtown Miami to see him and Cabrera. He will BANK if those two are in the lineup, especially if they're there with a three-years-from-now Ramirez...

Oh please... He gave Pudge a one year deal and then reportedly low balled him. He gave Delgado a few year deal and then traded him(something he probably planned to do the whole time)

Loria sucks.

Of course they traded Delgado, it was the smartest thing this franchise has done. They got a premier 1st baseman for just over $4 Million and then unloaded his contract to a division rival.

And Pudge walking was not exactly his fault, either. Would you have offered an aging catcher four years at $10 Mill a pop? Of course not.

I see nothing wrong with either of those decisions. He's pulled rabbits out of his hat before... That's all I'm saying.

Why is the Delgado deal the smartest thing this franchise has ever done? Humor me.

Who is this premier first baseman?

And yes, Loria's pulled things out before, but they certainly weren't from his hat...

our cheap ass owner has been taking on huge losses for years...so maybe if the cheap ass fans would show up, the owner would be more willing to spend

I doubt the marlins would pay a-rod what he's being paid currently ..i believe it's $25.6 million a year.

I think what you mean to say is that the Delgado contract was a smart move and in the end the Marlins were able to have him on the team for one year for a relative pittance. That was a smart move. So I agree with that thought. But I disagree if you think adding A-Rod to the team which includes Cabs translates into packed houses. The fans here have never proven that they can pack a house for anything short of a World Series game. I do not think that hypothetically adding A-Rod would translate into an extra 20000 fans at every game. And even if it did, they wouldn't bank, for according to the front office, even if they had an extra 20000 fans in Joe Robbie Stadium, they would only make an extra $2.25.

I agree... the problem is the guy that does not suck(beinfest) has to cater to his demands. what a world.
