Manager Phil Garner announced prior to Monday's series opener with the Chicago Cubs that Brad Lidge will not be closing games for the Astros in the foreseeable future.

"Brad will not be closing as a general rule," Garner said. "There may be a situation where it will be right to do it, but we'll probably pitch him earlier in the sixth or seventh inning." Dan Wheeler will be the primary closer for the Astros.

Lidge's stats: 1.2 IP, 16.20 ERA, 6 R (3 ER), 5 H, 3 BB, 1 K

So now we have a predecent set for OUR "closer"

I'd still take Lidge over Julio any day.
2.6 million (Julio) v. 5.35 million (Lidge).

Still?

Yeah. Dude blew 4 saves all of last season.

And you look at his career numbers, his struggles came 2 years after the infamous melt-down and he pitches in a little league field.

He's far more likely for a resurrection than Julio, just looking at his career trend. Lidge's WHIP in his worst year isn't that far off from Julio's in his best.

Lidge blew 4 in 2005 and 6 in 2006.

Yeah, I'd say that qualifies as outstanding.
