Done with five weeks of jury duty in Atlanta, new Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez shared some nuggets with spring training six days away:

He expects this batting order: Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, Miguel Cabrera, Josh Willingham, Jeremy Hermida, Mike Jacobs, Miguel Olivo, center fielder and pitcher.

He listed Alex Sanchez, Reggie Abercrombie and Eric Reed as candidates to start in center, with Alfredo Amezaga ''an option if the other stuff doesn't pan out.'' ( Joe Borchard and Cody Ross said they also would like a chance to compete for the job.)

Gonzalez believes Jacobs ''might be at that point . . . to let him play every day;'' said Ricky Nolasco will be a starter early in spring training to get innings, even though he could be moved to the closer's role; and said of Hermida: ``When he clicks, watch out. You're going to have a superstar there.''

? Among relievers coming off surgery, Travis Bowyer (shoulder) might not pitch this year, Carlos Martinez (elbow) is ahead of schedule and could be back before the All-Star break, and Logan Kensing (elbow) said he's targeting a July return.

the only positive is alex sanchez won't be batting 1 or 2.

Hanley/Hermida any order, Cabrera, Jacobs/Hammer any order, Uggla, CF (who will out OBP Olivo), and Olivo is ideal.

He has to split up the lefties. They'll get destroyed versus LHP or a LOOGY. Oh well. I'm sure this will sort itself out when they figure out Uggla is more of a 3rd/4th run producer on a team then a # 2 hitter with OBP skills.

I think Hermida bats 2nd AFTER he earns it (which Im very confident he will at some point this year). But what do you do if Uggs comes firing out of the gate?

Here's my line up:

HanRam
Uggla
Cabrera
Hammer
Hermida
Olivo
Jacobs
CF

He'll probably split up the lefties when we go up against a lefty. Although, I must say, late inning situation with Hermida and Jacobs coming up, the opposing team can bring in a lefty against two hitters, rather than just one. I like this one better:

Hanley
Uggla
Miggy
Jacobs
Willy
Hermida
Olivo

I think uggla's too good of a hitter to bat him that low in the order

Here's the lineup I'd expect to see:

Hanley
Uggla
Cabrera
Jacobs
Willingham
Hermida
Olivo
CF
P

Here's the crazy ass lineup I'd throw out there:

Hermida
Uggla
Hanley
Cabrera
Willingham
Jacobs
CF
Olivo
P

1-5 that lineup'd just wear you out and the 4-6 hitters should usually see a bunch of guys on base, and in scoring position.

I think Jacobs also has to earn the right to hit above willingham. I admit I may be a bit biased towards willingham, he and uggla are my favorite players.

He listed Alex Sanchez, Reggie Abercrombie and Eric Reed as candidates to start in center, with Alfredo Amezaga ''an option if the other stuff doesn't pan out.''

In other words, Sanchez, Abercrombie and Reed will get a chance to each embarass themselves and the club and then get benched in favor of Amezaga in late May, early June. No mention of a possible platoon (though Ross and Borchard say they are willing to try and play center). One new name, but it sounds like if Reggie has another monster spring we could be in for The Reggie Abercrombie Experiment v.2.0 in 2007. Can I get an Oh Yeah?
