I was wondering if anyone had any experience with one or any recommendations. Price needs to be ~ $450.

I have looked into the Dell Axim x51v and am liking that a lot. Seems powerful and something that won't be a brick in a year or two. I don't want a smartphone.

Even though it's a gift I'm virtually picking it myself so any help I'd appreciate.

I believe the Dell Axim was discontinued awhile ago so it might not be a good idea to buy one.

http://www.brighthand.com/ is a good site for hand held reviews.
Well that is definitely something good to know...

I'm also looking at this iPaq:

I do not own a PPC. I own a smartphone but I have experience with a few PPC's. My favorite right now is the new Cingular 8525. Supports UMTS/3G speeds. Has a touch screen and slide out keyboard.

I'm a Sprint customer though so wouldn't it not be smart to get a cingular powered phone (not being smart, I just honestly am blind when it comes to PDAs).

That thing does look sweet as hell though and I'm liking the pullout keyboard.

Anything that runs windows mobile is garbage. It'll lock up on you ten ways to Tuesday.

It depends what you want to use it for, but I give the blackberry 8700 series a ringing endorsement.

I had a blackberry through college and have no complaints but now I'm just going the solo phone route.

my dad has a dell pocket PC, not sure of the model but I'll let you know. He treats the thing like his second child. It's nice..
