Joe Girardi will interview for the Cubs' open managerial position next week.

The team fired Joe Maddon last week. Girardi is the top name on the list of former players and coaches competing for the Cubs job. The club has already interviewed bench coach Mark Loretta. Former catcher David Ross and first base coach Will Venable will interview in the coming days. Girardi played seven seasons with the Cubs in two stints. He managed the Florida Marlins for one season and the Yankees for ten seasons ending in 2017. His record as a manager is 988-794. He won the NL Manager of the Year award in 2006 with the Marlins -- yet despite the accolade he was fired after the season because the team's owner was still angry about an argument with Girardi in August.
