Nice to see Beckett pitching strong
i think that the M's having 4 days of sitting in a hotel and not doing much else had something to do with that...but beckett seems to really be mixing his speeds...which is critical to him having any success in the american league beyond getting 7+ runs of support every night

Anyone who thought that the main factor (main factor, not saying it didn't play in to a degree) was the Mariners having a layoff was watching a different game then me. As far as stuff and command goes, that was probably the best or 2nd best I have seen him in Boston. You can definitely see the work he did in the off-season and how different that curve is being placed and moved around along with his gameplan.

I don't know if you caught it, or if I was seeing things, but Josh definitely tipped his curve for an inning or two on the outset (basically all I got to watch before I had to run out).

You could see his pitching hand tipping it in his delivery (at least I saw it 2 or 3 times).

Amazing that he pitched that well with what I was seeing (and you know I'm pulling for him in every start, the one player I will never, ever, boo, even if he goes to the Mets).

I actually did not see the 1st inning, but I think I know what you are talking about.

The fact that he is placing that curve, in all its nastiness, on the outside of the plate is such a huge step from last year it isn't even funny. He was doing it near the end last year where basically he was having intense spring training as the Sox were out of it and he was just continuing to work and I could see glimpses of the changes then.

The fact that he was averaging 12 pitches an inning and had 8 K's plus he had to wait 25-30+ minutes between the 1st two innings in that cold, is incredibly impressive. If it was 70 degrees or up he would have gone 9 easy.

i know angel fans call him bad weaver for a reason...now we know why. btw, good weaver is on the dl for the angels right now.

bad way to start his career, but he says it takes him 3-5 starts to settle in with a new team.
