Jon Heyman is a national sportswriter -- not a local guy. Why would he call out the Marlins specifically if there are "many, many teams" interested? While it is possible that Heyman thinks the Marlins are the franchise that will attract the most interest in his tweet, to me it sounds more like the Marlins are seriously interested, and there's a number of other teams with tepid interest. But the agent wants to make it sound like the market is bigger, so they leak this tidbit to Heyman.

Heyman asks, "Who else interested?" But the agent can't say, for instance, "The White Sox have knocked the tires," if the White Sox haven't actually exchanged numbers because then it becomes obvious to the White Sox that their tepid interest is actually among the strongest. It tips the agent's hand toward the White Sox, who then realize they can be patient.

This is why the offseason is more fun than I think most people realize -- all the gamesmanship and intrigue and doublespeak that's happening just under the surface.

Because Heyman, while not being a Marlins reporter only, is based in Miami and thus is more in tune with what the Marlins are up to than most other national reporters.

If I'm not mistaken Joel Sherman is in a similar situation being based in NY he reports on the Mets and Yankees more often.

Why everybody keep saying every FA we interested in were out of our price range !? did they really think we're a Taiwan professional baseball club !?
Yeah, I see what you mean. It is getting a little annoying to constantly see "out of price range" for the Marlins on almost every player they allegedly have interest in.

People are still giving him shit for not realizing Dickerson is a free agent. That one is deserved, that was a good one lol.

When I saw it, I had to check myself to see if I was wrong about Dickerson being a free agent

I knew he was a free agent, but I had to check to see if the Phillies had actually resigned him and the Marlins were trying to get him after that.

Honestly, I don't mind it, it doesn't make sense to overpay for a stopgap. The guy that should step it up for is Dickerson since his track record has been more consistent. Avisail has been up and down with production over the years.

I agree that they shouldn't be stupidly overpaying but sometimes it feels like they don't want to pay at all and it can't be that either especially when the current payroll commitments are so low.

This, we can't just excuse them so easily when it sometimes seems like they bail out as soon as the price goes above super discount.
